Who guessed it??

You guessed it - this is the Cane Corso. This beautiful dog has origins from Rome and is a true famly dog. With Mastiff origins, this dog serves its family, home and other animals well. They are a relatively new breed, formally being recognised by Dogs Australia in 2003.

Different to the Mastiff, the Corso does not have loose skin. They are large, lean and athletic dogs. The Cane Corso comes in a wide range of colours, from black, tan with a black mask, blue/grey and brindle

As a guardian, the Cane Corso is wary of strangers. The breed is dominant and has an intimidating appearance and stature. Early social outings with humans and other dogs is essential for a happy family life, and the breed can be controlled with a firm hand and a strong influence.

Did you guess it correctly? It was the Basset Hound!

The Basset Hound has been thought to have come from the Bloodhound, bred by the Benedictine Monks of the St Hubert Monastery in Belgium. And is that it a surprise that they are second only to Bloodhounds in their scent abilities?

So what does a Basset Hound look like?
1) They have a domed head with prominent occiput, lozenge shaped eyes, nose tapered but not snipy or pointed.
2) Acceptable colours: tri-colour, red and white, tan and white, lemon and white – and any recognised hound colour.
3) Height: 33-38 cm at withers.

And what about their personalities?
They are laid back, a little bit stubborn with a strong personality. The Basset is a loyal family member who will walk all day, but is just as happy staying home. Not a dog that suits being an ‘only child,’ as he may howl if left alone all day. Always the comedian, can tell a story with the raising of one eyebrow! Great with children and other dogs.

Today, we celebrate the charming and spirited Welsh Corgis, both the Pembroke and Cardigan breeds! 🐾

🐕 **Pembroke Welsh Corgis** are known for their royal connection and have been adored by British royalty for decades. They are able to trace their lineage tracing back to the 12th century when Flemish weavers brought their dogs to Wales.

🐕 **Cardigan Welsh Corgis** are the older of the two breeds, with their ancestry dating back over 3,000 years. They were brought to Wales by Celtic tribes around 1200 BCE and have been herding cattle ever since.

Both breeds share a rich history in Wales, herding cattle and being beloved companions. They are known for their intelligence, agility, and strong-willed nature, making them as much a joy to work with as they are to cuddle.

Have you ever heard of this breed 🐕

The Canadian Eskimo Dog is called ‘Qimmiq’ by the Inuit. The breed proved popular with Arctic explorers and earned a reputation as a sled dog that could pull the heaviest loads over the greatest distances on the least amount of food.

It has a long association with humans and is a gentle and affectionate companion. The breed can be overly responsive to any stimuli and are best suited to an adult household. It is important to note that the breed does not adapt well to temperate climates.

You guessed it - the wonderfully majestic Weimaraner.

The Weimaraner is a relatively young breed of hunting dog and dates back to the early 19th century. It is a passionate dog, whose temperament is friendly, fearless, and obedient yet protective, but not aggressive, and has a close relationship with his owner and family.

This makes the Weimaraner an ideal family dog, devoted especially to children, but needs to be taught the house rules and understand that he is not the boss of the household! Being a gundog, bred to be the hunter’s companion as well as his working dog, the Weimaraner loves to be close to his owner, so enjoys nothing more than exercising with them, sharing the luxury of being inside the home and being included in the family activities.

Meet the Boston Terrier: A Blend of History, Health, and Heart 🫶

Affectionately known as the “American Gentleman,” the Boston Terrier is a breed with a storied past and a personality that’s nothing short of charming. Originating from 19th-century England, these dogs were bred from a mix of bulldogs and terriers. They’re friendly, playful, and sometimes silly companions who are non-aggressive and well-mannered.

When it comes to health, Boston Terriers are generally a healthy breed, but they do have predispositions to specific conditions like brachycephalic syndrome due to their short snouts, which can lead to breathing difficulties. They can be prone to eye issues, including cataracts and glaucoma, so regular check-ups are essential.

Lure Coursing is a performance sport developed in the early 70s by sight hound fanciers who hunted jackrabbits in the open field.

Lure Coursing aims to preserve and develop the coursing skills inherent in sighthounds and to demonstrate that they can perform the functions for which they were originally bred. The hounds chase plastic bags on a course laid out to simulate escaping game. The plastic bags are pulled around on a nylon string course, propelled by a hand controlled motor.

Lure Coursing is open to all breeds and associate register dogs. Try out days are an opportunity to see if your dog will run without the pressure of a trial.
