Eden Valley Riding School is located in the beautiful Eden Valley, South Australia. Our horses are healthy, happy and very well looked after and we are mindful about matching the right horse for the right rider. We aim to make our lessons exciting, affordable and a highlight to your family’s week! We offer individual lessons on site for adults and children and depending on your situation can bring

the lesson to you! We have become known for providing a safe, engaging, relaxed, welcoming environment and hope you too will feel like family during your time with us. At Eden Valley Riding School we provide instruction on a 1:1 teacher/student ratio ensuring we are able to give you our full attention at all times. This means we are an ideal choice for families with young children and we can cater for special needs. Lessons are available 7 days per week depending on availability. Your instructor Bernard Keogh has had years of experience with horses in many different settings and is also able to provide Equine Assisted Learning programs. Some notes:
What I do is NOT therapy, and I'm sure if many of the autistic youngsters heard that word they wouldn't even come. What I do is NOT "counselling with a horse nearby". I still teach basic horsemanship as the prime subject. But we know, in 90% of cases, that it will have positive mental health benefits for the clients. So... my youngsters come here to learn about horses. Rather, Equine Assisted Learning can be PART of what might be an overall therapy set by a child psychologist. That therapy might include a range of things including riding lessons. I try to draw the parallels between the equine learning and daily life, light counselling, if you'd like to call it that... but in fact what we're doing is still teaching "life lessons through horsemanship." And if I was to break it down even further... the horsemanship brings with it confidence, a new and very practical skill, the ability to control fears and anxieties, a restored sense of self-worth, the ability to summon courage and control emotional levels, and a lot of laughs and fun in an unpressurised fashion. Some things that don't happen in a psych's office or a school where the individuals needs are submerged and forgotten in the daily curricular rush. And, without ego, I'd still say that this helps those youngsters far more than ticking boxes and measuring IQ's. It is unique, it has integrity and I think thats what the youngsters appreciate most. They really do learn something. When you see a child, once frightened, timid and withdrawn ... catch and groom a horse, put on a saddle and bridle and head out across a paddock with confidence and joy and ability... you just know that you've given them something special, something their classmates might not have, and something that will last for life. Some of them live, sleep and breathe horses, and they might never have had such an opportunity, especially if they come from areas where horses are never seen. But I still won't call it therapy. Therapists talk.... we walk and talk. But we walk first, and if the talking comes, so much the better.

Well folks.... Some sad news....
Due to medical reasons I find myself in the position of having to sell up and move on. SO...
EVERYTHING IS FOR SALE... horses, gear, carriages ..my round yard.. THE LOT. Will separate, but its all gotta go and theres some bargains here too.

Hi y'all..
Ah this is a tough one....
Our little and very special riding school is struggling financially and I'm collecting stuff to sell so that we might make ends meet until it can pick up again.
I've never ASKED for help before, those who have seen what we do have helped out sometimes and so far so good. But these are tough times and we really DO need to get some outside professional help with vet stuff, feet, feed and various issues afflicting it all. Lesson income isnt quite covering it, like it has in the past.
And then I thought.. "hmm maybe some folks out there might be able to help". Financially I mean, the work itself will get done even if I have to sell my bod (ha!) to do it.
So... to all past and present students, families, supporters ..whoever! if you can find it... we really do need it. Love you all. ❤

On Saturday 4th May we will be having our annual cleanup, bonfire and BBQ. Your assistance will be much appreciated, and rewarded with as many sausages as you can eat.
Please come prepped for weather and garden work. Lots to do so friends are welcome too!
I hope to achieve this without disturbing any lessons, which is why I've chosen the Saturday. And we adults are welcome to bring along a nip or two of your favourite headache water. ;)

We have some student positions available, I think we can cope with one or up to three students depending on how you'd like to arrange things.. ten-session school terms available, equine assisted learning, at a pace we can ALL handle, :)

Hi folks...
Just for those who mighta missed the message:
I'm home from Lyell Macs after a week of hospital...... all is good, a few changes in the wind but for the present just taking some time off and resting.
NO LESSONS FOR THE NEXT WEEK, too hot and on docs orders I gotta rest....... so we will start up again with the usual bookings on Monday 18th March 2024. (Come for a visit if ya like but... no work!)

Hi folks...
Following my recent run-in with health and coupled with the fact that its been a long time since...
I have just now decided to take the rest of this week and all of next to recuperate.... Really sorry but I think this has been needed for quite some time.
We can resume lessons from Monday 18th March.
Emergencies aside ok... I know some of the youngsters with ASD will find this a bit hard. If it all gets too much you are of course and as usual, most welcome to come by, spend some time and we can just chill for a while. I'll be glad to see you and the tea kettle will be on!

Our Story

Eden Valley Riding School is located in the beautiful Eden Valley, South Australia. Our horses are healthy, happy and very well looked after and we are mindful about matching the right horse for the right rider. We aim to make our lessons exciting, affordable and a highlight to your family’s week! We offer individual and group lessons on site for adults and children and depending on your situation can bring the lesson to you! We also specialise in Equine Assisted Learning for children with learning difficulties, and in particular, can cater for children and adults with autism and mental health issues. We have become known for providing a safe, engaging, relaxed, welcoming environment and hope you too will feel like family during your time with us. 10 session pre-paid terms are available at a small discount. These guarantee a permanent time-slot, however we do charge for missed sessions that are not advised 24 hrs prior to lesson start time. Weather cancellations are at EVRS discretion and cost.... basically this means that > 32C, or cold wet and windy, will be postponed with as much notice as possible. If weather conditions look bad.. I will endeavour to advise clients as soon as possible. Bookings are made on a first in best dressed basis, however priority is given to NDIS clients with a genuine need for our services. Lessons are available 7 days per week depending on availability. Your instructor Bernard Keogh has had years of experience with horses and children in many different settings and is also qualified and experienced in providing to provide Equine Assisted Learning (EAL). All relevant Working with Children, Recognition of Abuse and Neglect, and relevant Police Clearances are current and applied.
