The art of doing ✨NOTHING✨

Anyone who knows the breed Malinois knows that their off switch is often a mythical fairytale.
But miracles happen and here we have Jack at a busy cafe with people, cars, the enemy (aka the postie) and all sorts of noises everywhere.

Being able to relax and do, well nothing, in these environments is the end goal I aim for each client to get too 👏🏼

Meet Jack the Gentleman! 🧔‍♂️

Jack is a striking 6 year old world class athlete involving anything with a tennis ball. Usain Bolt who?

Jack has found his way back to Happy Tails due to no fault of his own - his sweet and gentle nature saw him get bullied by another dog.

Jack loves nothing more then to carry his wide array toys around in his mouth all day, every day. During the day he loves a run and often if he is on a walk you will find him wanting to be let free just to run on the oval after you guessed it, a tennis ball.

As anyone who knows the breed knows he is active and needs to be mentally stimulated. He has been keeping this up with 'find it' games and loves puzzles.

After a hard day of being good looking, he will find his favourite spot on the couch, affectionally known as 'Jacks Spot'. Where you will have trouble prying him off until the AM. This spot is usually where he demands belly rubs, continually.

Not much is known about Jacks history other than he ended up in a rural pound all alone however, it's safe to say this 6 year old has plenty of life and love to get. He does willingly jump into a kennel and will spend time in there happily with his toy.

This sweet baby isn't a fan of raised voices and can retreat if he hears someone yelling.
He is also concerned if someone uninvited is walking past his yard, how dare they.

Jack also has an excellent vocal range which he likes to share with the emergency services sirens! 🚨

He is very much loved and will need someone or a family who can give him just as much. Ideally, with other dogs or a single person who would be home with him. 🥹

Jack doesn't know what personal space is and may be too much for a small child. Jack isn't much of a fan of thunderstorms (not that we get them much) but as long as he knows he has access to his safe space (a crate, spot on the couch or kennel) then he is happy as Larry.

Eddie likes to vocalise his concerns and use his outdoor voice, indoors.
We practised a few good techniques and tricks to minimise this behaviour. Eddie also gets a gold star for being the best crate trained boy I’ve seen. And I can confirm, he is as soft as he looks 😍

At just 10 weeks he is nailing his sleeping through the night and toilet training.

Arthur was a sweet and loveable boy (as well as his big sister) who just needed some direction and focus on what was the desired behaviour.

In celebration of National Volunteer Week (15 - 21 May), council is highlighting some of the outstanding volunteers in the region.

Today we're celebrating Hayley Smith! Here's what her nominator had to say about her:

'Hayley is the Dog Pound Coordinator for CQ Pet Rescue, and has dedicated an incredible amount of time saving dogs that have been surrendered or abandoned.

Hayley opens her own home as a temporary refuge for dogs in need, serving as a vital link between the pound and foster carers. This means the dog will have a safe and comfortable home while they wait for their foster homes.

Despite the challenges and emotional toll of this work, she continues to do it because of her passion for helping dogs in need.

In addition to her work as the Dog Pound Coordinator for CQPR, Hayley is also a healthcare professional. She works long, demanding shifts, saving lives and helping people during times of crisis.

Hayley’s dedication to animal welfare is truly remarkable and serves as an example of selflessness and compassion. Her commitment to positively impacting the world around is an inspiration others, and she truly deserves recognition for her remarkable efforts.'

This girl is one sassy little fluff ball! We saw her as a puppy and now as a ‘teenager’. And look how CUTE she is 🥰

This here is Argie 💙
Argie doesn’t know it but he is one of the many reasons I’m so passionate about helping dogs. He was lucky enough to be adopted to his amazing forever family after being abandoned at a truck stop.

Even though he is pretty much perfect, we helped brush up his basics and to understand the ever so wonderful teenage phase that dogs through.
As someone who has a puppy going through this ✨testing✨ phase, rest assure, it is not forever but all the tips and tricks during this phase can really make a difference.
