Here are a few charts that everyone should have saved into their phones. One chart shows how to do a basic health assessment on a goat. There is also a chart on how to check and score a goats Famacha (inner lower eyelid mucous membrane) and what action needs to be taken depending on what your goats famacha colour score is. I have also added a few other charts. I have also added a photo of something that is very handy to have in your fridge/goat medical kit. It’s injectable B-Complex which will give a goat a quick boost in the
B vitamins and help them in their recovery of any illness. Also it’s good to have a probiotic suitable for goats on hand in your fridge incase of scourers/diahhria and to be given after a course of antibiotics has been finished.

Ivy and Penny tonight here in our “Hoof Hospital 🏥 “. When they arrived and even up until a week ago their gums and tongue were white and also their Famacha’s were white/pale grey colour as well so both were dangerously Anaemic. Good to see tonight that they have some colour back in their gums and tongue coming back to a healthier pink colour. Was unable to check their Famacha (inner lower eye lid mucous membrane) as I need Emma to hold them while I check and she had already gone back inside so will check those tomorrow when I clean up their yard etc. Started them on Goat Pellets this week as I didn’t want to start them straight away and too soon with how underweight they were and possibly cause stomach issues (Bloat or Scourers/Diahhria) with having too much too soon so they have been on just prime Lucern hay and Oaten hay up until this week. I started them on a small amount of pellets for now to gradually introduce the pellets to their diet without upsetting their tummies. They LOVE the pellets and hoe into them like they’re starving to death, which they almost were, especially Penny before coming here 2 weeks ago. Ivy loves our attention as you can see in the video. Penny enjoys a good scratch now after being timid and scared for the first 4 days here. PS: They only had 1 piece of bread each as I had some stale bread so I thought 1 piece each for a treat for everyone.

Tonight in our little Hoof Hospital 🏥 with patients Ivy & Little Penny who are rescues that have been neglected in every way for god knows how long. Both have had their overgrown hooves trimmed. Ivy’s hoof lameness issue has healed after 4 days of treatment and is no longer lame at all so that’s awesome for her. Little Penny’s growth between the toes/claws of her rear hoof is half the size of what it was and is healing well, no longer tender to touch after 4 days of treatment, however she still has another issue with her hoof that is still being treated. Little Penny is awfully undernourished and skinny and both of them are enjoying having unlimited access to prime Lucern hay, oaten hay and a grassy/lucern mix along with veggies and fruits for treats. Both have been treated with antibiotics, pain meds, de-wormed and probiotics. They are also enjoying the company, love, attention and cuddles given here.

A friend got a bunch of new goats that were obviously neglected wherever they came from. I went out to trim all the new arrivals and bought these 2 girls home who are lame with not only overgrown neglected hooves but also a bad case of hoof scald and found maggots in the hoof too causing pain and lameness and one with some kind of wound between the two toes/claws causing her pain and lameness. They have Lice too so have powdered them thoroughly with Pestene which thankfully I already a full container of. So I bought them home to the Hoof Hospital until they’re all trimmed and their hoof scald and the wound has healed and they can get around without pain and lameness. They had no names so we have called the bigger one with one & half horns Ivy and the smaller one Penny. I have already partially trimmed the back hooves they are lame on and will finish the other hooves tomorrow. They are in my little sick bay/hospital yard (was the Lambs yard) that I keep fenced off from Maggie and Honey so I always have a place for the occasional visitor that needs my help as I have had a few here in the past. They have both had a shot of antibiotics and pain meds tonight when they arrived along with some prime Lucern hay and Oaten hay, also some Apple and Banana before their injections.

Today we went out to trim 6 gorgeous and very sweet sheep. 1 Dorper ewe, 4 Baby Doll ewes and 1 Baby Doll ram. They all had cute names but I can’t remember their names now 🤦‍♀️ and they didn’t make too much of a fuss, a little fuss here and there but nothing bad enough to make the job difficult, they were pretty good. Baby Doll sheep 🐑 are such chunky, heavy and strong sheep who have adorable faces that I think makes them look like a Teddy Bear 🧸, they should be called Teddy Bear Sheep. I have attached two photos of 4 of the 6 gorgeous girls waiting to be trimmed when I arrived.
