It is widely recognized that leg injuries are among the most common issues affecting the soundness of horses.
Superficial Digital Flexor Tendon (SDFT) injures account for 75-95% of tendon injures in the front limb. The SDFT one of the tendons responsible for flexing the horse's lower limb and is located on the back surface of the cannon bone, running down towards the pastern and attaching to the coffin bone. Injuries, particularly in performance horses, and can range from minor strains to more severe tears or ruptures, which may require veterinary intervention and long periods of rehabilitation. Most of these are not caused by direct trauma but by repetitive strain.
