To refresh your memory, Louis came for a board and train a few (4?) months back to help his owner get on top of a few issues; toilet training, nuisance barking, and the infamous baby shark impersonation!
Big fella is back for a holiday, can you believe he is 8 months old already!? I always love seeing how the training is coming along, and I'm absolutely blown away with how much effort Louis' owner has put in with him! No more toilet accidents, no barking, and certainly no biting. His leash manners are coming along great, and so is his obedience. He also has some great sociability with a range of dogs. All without losing his spunkyness!
That being said, that's where a lot of people tend to make a mistake. Let me explain. People tend to allow every dog on dog experience to be excitable playing and on leash greetings, and this often leads to some form of reactivity later on and poor obedience. You should instead focus on building your own importance as well as tons of environmentals and exposure. Dog to dog interactions should be kept to a minimum, and strictly to known, well rounded dogs. No on leash greetings. As you can see, this allows for a puppy to still develop social skills while holding a high value in the owner.
Even during this stay, playing probably made up about 2% of his dog to dog encounters. The other 98% was focusing on me, practicing obedience, chilling out, waiting his turn and so on; basically being around other dogs but not interacting.
I get it, it's super cute to watch our puppy having fun playing with other dogs. It's also a super easy way to wear them out. But as their owner, it's on you to do what's best for your puppy, not what makes us feel good or what's easy.
Kudos to his absolute legend of an owner for doing what's best for Louis! He is coming along so nicely!

Loved catching up with this cutey today! Not just because of how goddam adorable Louie is, but because I was blown away by how amazing his owner is doing after only two weeks! Louie's owner has taken to the training like a duck on water, following what I've implemented and really taking the time to understand Louie. By focusing hard on learning about Louie, his owner has already moved past what I would normally address in the follow up lesson, leaving us to tackle some really stimulating environments today. What a legend!
A very small snippet here as I prefer to be considerate of the people using public spaces. Louie is super dog social, you can see here how easily his owner was able to guide him with a little leash pressure. No biting, no pulling all over the place, no food. Just a nice walk along the busy esplanade with an 18 week puppy, just imagine what a pleasure he will be as an adult!

Tansy is now 8 months old, can you believe!?
We done a couple of private lessons at 8 weeks old, then a board and train almost 4 months ago.
This is an excellent example of what can be achieved when you take the time to understand the 'why' behind what I'm implementing for you and your pup. It's "easy" to just follow instructions, thats sadly what so many owners are looking for. They fail to consider that a puppy (or dog) is a sentient being, you can't put step by step instructions on something that has thoughts and feelings of its own. I often find the people who have this approach give up quickly, usually because it's "too hard", when really they just haven't taken the time to understand why, ultimately to understand the dog.
Tansy arrived yesterday, this video compilation was taken across today. I have purposely left the original audio instead of music, so you can hear what commands (or lack thereof) I'm giving Tansy. I'm not micro managing her, there's no need for "stay" "leave it" "wait". It's just not necessary when you build the dog on a healthy relationship, with the results being a dog that is excited to work for you and controls its own impulses. We didn't beat her into submission nor did we bribe her with treats. We communicated clearly, fairly and with purpose.

It's been a while since I last seen Koda for training, she's back for some holiday boarding. Of course, first thing I done was see how her obedience is π€ very happy to see her owner has been doing the homework!

Bailey is quite a fearful little pup. Some of this is genetic, but also what she was exposed to in her first few weeks of life is contributing too. This period of time, when a pup is with mum and littermates (up to 8 weeks old), is incredibly important. What a pup is exposed to will greatly shape how the genetics are played out.
But we can't change the past right? We can give Bailey the best goddam chance though, and that's exactly what her legendary owners are doing. We've been doing some private lessons to help guide her owners to give Bailey what she really needs, and boy are they doing just that! The positive difference in just a few weeks is heartwarming.
I recently took Bailey for an Overnight Plus, where the pup stays with me for a full day, overnight and morning, with a lesson at the end. During this time, I done tons of exposure work and environmentals. I kept it super low pressure, and allowed her to take everything in while also being there for her.
Here is a snippet of a few things we done. I send A LOT of videos to the owners of everything we do and explain why we're doing it. This way, they have personalised videos they can follow when they feel unsure of what to do.
