Periodontal disease is caused by an accumulation of plaque. Plaque is a colourless film that contains large amounts of potentially harmful bacteria. Today is World Zoonoses Day 🪱

On this day in 1885, the first ever rabies vaccine 💉 was successfully administered by French biologist 🔬 Louis Pasteur. On the anniversary of this medical breakthrough, we pay tribute to Pasteur’s work by observing World Zoonoses Day, and using this day to spread awareness of zoonotic diseases.

Did you know? Some parasites and infectious diseases that affect pets can be transmitted to people. These are called zoonoses.

Examples of companion animal zoonoses include bacterial infections (flea-borne spotted fever, cat scratch fever), parasites (intestinal worms, mites), and fungal infections (ringworm).

The most effective ways to protect your pet 🐶 and your family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 from zoonotic disease are:
🩺 Regular veterinary health checks for your pet
🧼 Ensure good hygiene practices (handwashing, prompt disposal of pet faeces)
