Animal Liberation's wonderful campaign manager, Alex Vince, was recently interviewed on Defend the Wild's podcast about his work through the Coalition Against 1080 Poison.
1080 poison is lethal to all animals, causing a horrific, slow and agonizing death. Some animals, such as certain native marsupial carnivores, can take up to six days to die after they ingest the bait.

CALL OUT FOR FOSTER CARERS FOR DOGS
Cairns Animal Rescue, based in Gordonvale, has rehoused more than 1670 dogs since it began in 2019. Co-founder, Robyn Bashford, is concerned at the increasing demand to find homes for unwanted animals.
'We are receiving surrender requests almost daily,' Robyn said.
'The housing crisis and increased costs of living are making it very hard for some pet owners'.
Cairns Animal Rescue provides care and support for animals in need - whether they are abused, abandoned or surrendered. The Rescue service was founded by Robyn, her daughters Kylie and Alleisha Warnes, Amanda Jia and Nini Lightman.
Dogs are placed in caring foster homes until they can be rehoused.
'Most of our dogs go interstate. Melbourne and Perth are our two biggest destinations. I would like to encourage animal lovers in Cairns to become foster carers. If you have a home with a secure fence we would love to hear from you.'
Organisations that help support the work of Cairns Animal Rescue include Animal Welfare Cairns, My Pet Hub (Redlynch), Dogtainer (Cairns), Pet Barn (Cairns) and Savourlife.
Robyn finished the interview with this advice to potential dog owners.
"Don't get a dog until you are 100% sure of your commitment.'
'If you are not sure and you want a pet, get a fish,' she quipped.

Cairns Animal Rescue not only has approxiamately 20 volunteers bring about a state in foster dogs where they can be successfully adopted; they are now also dealing with floods!!

Now Cairns Animal Rescue need your help more than ever!
This was the initial apeal:
Hello,
my name is Alison and I am raising funds for CAIRNS ANIMAL RESCUE.
Did you know that many dogs in the Cairns region wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't for CAIRNS ANIMAL RESCUE?
Take my dog, Mickey, for example. [He is the dog in the photo].
I got Mickey when he was 6 months old.
He and his sister came from a situation of neglect that was so bad that when the Vet. intially looked them over and saw how withdrawn and skinny they were he simply said ' Put them down'.
Yet one of their foster carers [there are 20 in all] accepted this as a challenge and loved and nurtured them until they turned into beautiful, playful and energetic puppies.
This is only one story of an abused, neglected, death row dog who was rescued by one of the very dedicated volunteers of the CAIRNS ANIMAL RESCUE.
They often deal with dogs in states that you and I would very confronting.
And then they do it again.
And again.
Please help me raise the funds that they need to cover their expenses.
These include Veterinary fees; transport; food; training etc.

URGENT FLOOD APEAL!! URGENT FLOOD APEAL!! RESCUE DOG CRISIS!!!

The dog pictured below, Mickey, is only alive because of the absolutely wonderful people at the CAIRNS ANIMAL RESCUE [in general] and one very special foster carer, in particular.
When Mickey was first taken to the vet, he said 'put him down' because Mickey was so damaged.
The foster carer then took him and his sister home and brought them back to life.
At 6 months of age I adopted the very loving Mickey and the rest, as they say, is history.
CAIRNS ANIMAL RESCUE saves dogs lives.
Approx. 20 volunteers take dogs, many in horrific condition and who would otherwise often be dead, and saves them.
I implore you to donate to this incredible bunch of people, whose tireless work is saving the lives of beautiful animals.
