🔥 EXTREME HEAT & BUSHFIRE PREPAREDNESS – PLEASE READ 🔥
This week we’re heading into high 30s and strong winds across NSW, which means extreme heat stress risk for pets and increased bushfire danger. Please take a moment to protect your animals and be prepared.
🥵 Heat Safety for Pets
Keep pets indoors or in shaded, cool areas.
Provide plenty of fresh, cool water—multiple bowls if possible.
Avoid walking dogs in the middle of the day; hot roads burn paws.
Never leave pets in cars, even for a minute.
Watch for signs of heat stress: excessive panting, drooling, wobbliness, vomiting, collapse. Seek vet help immediately if you’re concerned.
🔥 Bushfire Emergency Kit for Pets
Being prepared can save lives. If you live in or near bushland, have your pet’s “go bag” ready:
🐾 For Dogs & Cats:
Collar, lead, harness & carrier
Bottled water & collapsible bowl
3–5 days of food (tinned or dry)
Medications + written instructions
Vaccination & microchip details
Recent photos of your pets
A towel or blanket
Waste bags / litter & tray
A comfort item (toy, bed)
🐴 For Horses & Livestock:
Halters, leads & ID tags
Water containers & feed
Evacuation map & plan for safe paddocks
Microchip numbers / brand details
Spray paint or stock markers for emergency ID if evacuation is impossible
🚨 Have a Bushfire Plan
Know where you will go early—do not wait for fires to be close.
Keep your pets confined so they are easy to load quickly.
Make sure microchip details are up to date.
Follow local RFS alerts and leave as early as possible.
Stay safe, stay cool, and please look out for your animals and each other this week. ❤️🐾 If you need advice, feel free to call the clinic.
