Resting in the sun watching the world go by🐾
We have great days, good day, ok days and bla days.
Today is an ok day.
Always letting me know his level of pain by the subtle things he does.
A little more sniffing on his walk and when stationary always lays down .
Dogs are good at hiding pain though when you understand body language and you are truly connected they will let you know and you have to learn not to second guess.
Everyday is a blessing❤️🐾

“No!” “Aha!” “Naughty dog!” 🐾
Let’s be honest, I have heard many humans bark out to their dogs No and Aha at some point. I get it, It feels natural, almost instinctive. But here is the kicker, to your dog they mean absolutely nothing, that’s right nothing.
Sure, they sound urgent at the time, and yes, they might stop your dog in their tracks for a second. But honestly they don’t explain anything, they don’t teach, they are just noise. 😅
The truth is, most of the time you say these words because you are human and it’s a reflex. Totally understandable I get it I truly do as 25 years ago I would have said them too. But here is a cheeky little truth I want to share:
Words like “No,” “Aha!” and “Naughty dog!” are basically the canine equivalent of swear words. And yes, let me toss in the word“dominant” into that pile too, while I do a dramatic full-body shake-off.
Sometimes you humans just have a bit of a potty mouth when it comes to these words 😉
But listen up, the real issue is not the use of these words, it is that these words do not change behaviour, they just suppress it for a moment. If we actually want our dogs to learn, we have to offer them a better option. A clear alternative to whatever they were doing in the first place.
So next time you catch yourself mid-“Nooooo!” or dropping a dramatic “Aha!” try this instead:
Pause and count to three, ask yourself, “What do I want my dog to do instead?” Then teach that behaviour, as remember when we want to eliminate an unwanted behaviour we must teach an alternative behaviour.
Remember real training is not about correcting, it is about guiding and teaching with clarity, consistency, and with kindness.
Dogs can only be dogs (some humans may disagree with this).
So now I am curious, what is your go to phrase when you want to stop a behaviour? Be honest, I won’t judge. I might just shake my head a little.
👇 Drop it in the comments, let’s hear your K9 swear words!

Tonight, I light an extra candle for a very special girl who lost her battle with cancer at just 13 years old.
My thoughts and prayers are with her beautiful family. She was truly one of a kind🐾 a brave tripod dog with a heart as big as her gentle soul. From the moment we met, she carved out a special place in my heart.❤
She came into this world feeling vulnerable, yet with time and love, she opened up and placed her full trust in the humans around her. Being part of her journey was both a blessing and a privilege I will always cherish.
Tonight, please send a quiet prayer for all those grieving the loss of their beloved K9 companions.
If you are lucky enough to have a dog by your side, give them an extra cuddle in her honor.
Love & Blessings Zigrid xx

OMG love in a fluff ball mini Aussie Shepherd.
The mini size of this breed is fairly new to Australia.
This 8week old girl is a darling and so willing to learn.
Home visit today to set things up to make the settling in period easy for the whole family.
Lots of learning went on for both pup and humans all in the everyday situations.
Private training makes everything so much easier as the training is done in real time, real everyday situations.
Awesome session

You would think after 25 years, we would all be on the same page by now... but no! I still get calls from new puppy parents being told to “just ignore their new pup crying at night". Really? Still?? What the actual... 😢
Let me be super clear: ignoring a crying puppy at night is outdated, unkind, and just plain wrong. It’s not “tough love” it’s confusing and scary for your pup.
When you bring home a new puppy, those night time cries are not manipulation. It is a puppy who’s just lost everything familiar, their dog mum, their litter, their entire world. Of course they are going to be scared.
Ignoring them does not “teach” them, it can cause anxiety, delays crate training, and damages the bond you are trying to build.
So what should you do instead?
✅ Put the crate near your bed so they know you are close.
✅ Even better? Let them sleep on your bed if you are comfortable with it. (And no, this won’t “spoil” them or cause separation anxiety, quite the opposite, it builds trust and security.
If they stir in the night, take them out for a toilet break, keep things calm, and no, it’s not playtime, just gentle reassurance, then back to sleep.
Yes, the first few nights can be tough, but with love, consistency, and a bit of compassion, your pup will settle. You are not just helping them sleep, you are helping them feel safe, secure, and that you are there for them.
Do you let your pup sleep on your bed? go on share a pic if you do🐾❤

Head down butt up doing business admin all day🙁
I hear "Patience is a quiet strength, the virtue that teaches us to wait with grace, endure with hope, and trust in the timing of life."
Well I practiced what I teach with humans and them teaching their dogs to avoid frustration and stay calm count to 3 and repeat as needed.
Well I know I did well today as I didn't touch the Tim Tams
Go me🙃🐾

Sweet pup learning a stay at the front door.
Teaching stay teaches patience and self control.
If you only teach a stay at the front door the dog will only learn to stay at the front door.
Teach the "stay" request at all door entrances, when placing walking equipment on, at meal times, crossing the road, when approaching you on the sofa, in any situation a dog approaches you as if they stay they are not jumping up.
Happy teaching🐾

Our little puppy Groodle is building his confidence up nicely and at his pace.
His session today was working on proofing behaviours, working on recalls, and following his humans around on a long lead to set him up for short lead walking.
Lovely session and so easy because all us humans were always listening to this gorgeous boy and setting him up for success to make good choices.
Private sessions are the best as everything is done in real life situations and the sessions are all about the one family and their K9 buddy.
5 star clients, 5 star k9 parents = happy puppy = happy k9 coach
