Stunning day with a stunning horse.
Although nipping and biting isn’t always a common problem I come across through my work, it sometimes pops it’s head up once in a while.
Biting and kicking go hand in hand when it comes to a horse who is trying to process a vulnerable situation that they find themselves in or they maybe simply trying to communicate to us that something is up!
My hoof pick may have accidentally pricked into him from my pocket, an insect may have bitten him or he may have stomach ulcers or be recovering from them.
It may also simply be the case that he is simply and down right scared from a previous experience.
I grew up seeing horse punished for being horses. Emotionally unstable humans who felt that the only way forward when they lacked knowledge or true horsemanship was to inflict pain in The means of whipping, striking yelling and twitching!
Either way, we should always look for alternative options when dealing with any problem then behaving like an immature imbecile.
By being able to lower my energy and relax, the horse will do the same. I can trust him and he can trust me and day by day, we can then become forever Friends👍
Copper Grooming Brush from Hairy Pony (stocked at Horseland Albury)
Amazing brush! Get your pony one ☝️🐎
Teenage girls now equipped with knowledge and the tools ⚒️ 🧰 to trim their own ponies at home. Between the pair of them they easily managed to trim all four hooves of our pony Jardine who was the perfect patient pupil 😊🐎 We did the maths and worked out the clinic cost and the complete tool kit and stand would still be more cost effective than a farrier trimming 1 pony for 12 months! Hopefully we might be inspiring future farriers too 🤞 The number of farriers is rapidly declining and there is no better time to take ownership of your horses hooves than today!
Red light at night is the jockeys delight
Our Christmas book 📚 gifts to each other. Only a third of the way through ‘Sacred Spaces’ and it has been an AMAZING eye opener already!
I used some of the mental imagery exercises and rode our very forward (and hot) Jack who hadn’t been ridden since start of Dec and was blown away with how pleasant the ride was.
Has anyone got these books? What we’re your take homes?
If you have any other must reads please post below!
Happy trails 🐎
Nat & Fonz
We finished 2023 achieving a life long goal - wanting to take horses on a family high country camping trip! ✅
Nat, Clare & Ruby rode from Tom Groggin to Geehi (23km)
Rode along the Murray on the same trails of Banjo Paterson and Jack Riley🏔️🐎
Fonz & the girls continued on from Geehi to outskirts of Khancoban the following day (23km)
We had so much fun and can’t wait to go back again!
Here’s a little video sharing some of our family snaps and our trip 🏔️🐎🌟
We wish you all a Happy New Year and looking forward to working with you all in 2024! Fonz is especially excited about his new work hours - last year too many long days working underneath horses but not riding them. We’re very grateful to our clients who understand this and have been flexible in adapting to the time changes. Thank you 🙏
See you in 2024 🌈☀️
