Unfortunately just this last Saturday morning after deteriorating extremely quickly I had to make the most heartbreaking decision to have my best friend pts. Reaching a grand age of 28yrs old, spending the past 20years by my side. I am beyond heartbroken, it still feels like a horrible bad dream. Waking up each day without him standing in his paddock staring at me doesn’t feel right.

NBF My Hot Wish aka Timmy is home again…😄
Back earlier in the month I received a message from his leasee asking if they could return him due to their personal circumstances and of course I wouldn’t say no. He’s been home now just under 2wks, settled back in perfectly. Due to my not riding anymore, health conditions and injuries that he has acquired during his ridden career needing certain attention he will now be retired from riding. Enjoy your retirement big fella you certinaly have earned it. You have more than proven what an awesome quality horse you are with the potential to do anything ❤️❤️❤️❤️

My eldest daughter bought me a lovely surprise, miniature wether goats!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ we have 3 little boys about 4wks old. Luckily I am already bottle feeding lambs so addinf these cute boys into the routine is no hassle 😍😍😍

So while we are having some time away from the horse side of things I have been focusing on building my Brahman herd. We have bought in and bred some really nice heifers along with leasing a very fancy bull. This breed of cattle are so underrated, they handle the hot & cold conditions here beautifully and outcrossed with a beef bull like an Angus produce really nice solid calves with quick growth and great weight gain.

Just a little horse update, we haven’t posted much in regards to our horses as we no longer breed or show due to our personal circumstances. Hopefully one day that will change but in the meantime the mares we have retained as enjoying a life well spoilt as they deserve. We have also kept our show gelding NBF My Hot Wish, despite having lots of interest in purchasing him I just couldn’t part with my boy. He’s extremely special to me.

Back on the 1st July I stated my elderly TB gelding on a new product that had become available at my local feed store. Omega Oil from High Horse Performance and what a huge difference it has made for him. He still has some age related issues but this product has helped him so much that I have started all my other horses on it. I have no hesitation in recommending this product for your equine friends!!! ❤️❤️

Take action now as this bushfire may threaten your safety. If you are not prepared, leave now and if the path is clear, go to a safer place. Do not enter this area as conditions are dangerous.

The CHERRY GARDENS, HICKS HILL ROAD fire is uncontrolled. This scrub fire is burning in a East North Easterly towards Brookman Road Meadows, Battunga Road Echunga and Strathalbyn Road Echunga. Conditions are continually changing.

For updates listen to your local ABC radio station on a battery powered radio, visit the CFS website https://www.cfs.sa.gov.au or call the Bushfire Information Hotline 1800 362 361.

Homes are not built to withstand these fire conditions, however they can be used as a shelter against heat from the fire. You may lose power, water, phone and data connections. Fire crews are responding but you should not expect a firefighter at your door.

WHAT TO DO:

Check and follow your Bushfire Survival Plan. Protect yourself from the fire’s heat – put on protective clothing. Tell family and friends of your plans.

IF YOU ARE LEAVING:

Leave now, don’t delay. Roads may become blocked or access may change. Smoke will reduce visibility. Secure your pets for travel. If you become stuck in your car, park away from bushes, cover yourself, get onto the floor as the windows may break from the intense heat.

PREPARE TO DEFEND:

Identify a spot to shelter in, with more than one exit, keep moving away from the heat of the fire. Bring pets inside and restrain them. Move flammable materials such as doormats, wheelie bins and outdoor furniture away from your house. Close doors and windows to keep smoke out. If you have sprinklers, turn them on to wet the areas. If your building catches fire go to an area already burnt. Check around you for anything burning.

So yesterday we had a pretty intense day. With 40+ degree day and strong winds a downed power line started a grass fire. In total this fire burnt through 5000 hectares, a couple sheds, a house and took the lives of many animals/livestock. Also unfortunately a couple people received pretty bad burns. We implemented our fire plan the moment we noticed the smoke, not knowing what the wind would do and which way it would go. Thankfully now because of the amazing work of many CFS personnel and dozens of awesome Farm Fire Units this beast was declared Contained this evening!!!

So after many hours, lots of sweat and paint everywhere I have finally finished painting the green posts with Stud X paint. Pretty happy with how well it turned out 😀😀

Over the past several week we’ve had the fencing contractor out to ram in some posts for us. They did several cattle fences plus all these in what will be the horse paddocks. There will be four x 8-9acre paddocks with a 7mt lane way along the front which leads to the cattle lane way & yards. Each paddock will have a 14ft gate making it easy for the tractor to get in and out if needed. The fence lines will be planted with gum trees to provide shade in the future plus will eventually have multi horse shelters. At this stage I only intend to have 2 horses per paddock. They can also be used if necessary as weaning paddock for our calves.

My 3 awesome temporary stables built in the shed. They are approximately 4mts x 6mts so plenty of room for the horses to move around a lay down. Also there are lights installed above them.
