Desi progress update 😊 lovely little Des is now able to trot, and I've even seen her canter around with the boys! She's feeling so much happier and moving great. Now we have some good blood flow to those hooves, I'd like to see the capsules grow out and some normal healthy hooves come through 🀞

ADOPTED!!! Yep, that's right, we had a HUGE day yesterday with Blaze and Liberty both going to their forever home together! We had no idea how Blaze would go on the float but in true Blaze form, he surprised us all by loading beautifully and travelling like an absolute genius πŸ₯°πŸ₯° Liberty is off with him and the two will join a wonderful horsey family in Mudgee with another thoroughbred and standardbred πŸ’• Blaze and Liberty will be absolutely doted on and so adored. I couldn't be happier with the wonderful family who opened their hearts and home to these two ponies πŸ₯°

Franklin update! He's had such a good time out in the herd, he's been frolicking and playing so much, mostly with Pio who is also quite a goofball πŸ˜† Franklin still turns on his silly stallion behaviour at times but these big guys just honestly don't care at all and completely ignore it, perfect way for him to learn to now be a calm herd pony as a gelding! His weight is coming along great, and now he's able to graze as much as he likes, i expect him to finally get back to his normal healthy weight quickly. It's all looking up for this little turnip πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

Freedom for Franklin! Little guy has recovered wonderfully from his gelding surgery and has been given the green light for some socialising! He is still quite aggressive when near the other minis but interestingly he is much more passive around the big guys so after a few days of getting to know each other across the yard fence I've let him go out to mingle! It was very uneventful, exactly how I wanted it to go πŸ˜… he will take a while to find his feet, but this is looking very promising. The big horses are so super chill and sensible, so I'm not concerned about them being nasty to him. A huge step for little Frankie!

Remember Peaches, Taffy, and Fuji?? Peaches had a massive round of dental surgery last year and we had to remove sections of dead jaw bone, Fuji and a Taffy also had dental extractions at the same time and then the three found an amazing forever home with the lovely Asia at .brae.retreats πŸ’• Kim and I went to do their dental check up this week and they are all doing so amazing! Little Taffy also has cushings but is being managed so well πŸ₯° i just love a good happily ever after story, especially when we didn't even know if little Peaches would survive the extensive surgeries. I am so grateful to .brae.retreats for giving these three ladies the best life ever πŸ₯°

When Amalie arrives to visit her boy Walter and finds Blaze passed out fast asleep 😴 only horse people know that feeling of "naww he's sleaping! ..... sleeping, right? Hello? Are you alive? Sleep or colic?? HELLO??" πŸ˜† Silk, Pio, and Walter keep watch πŸ’•

Blaze and Pio, being goofy boys playing in the rain because i never get enough of watching the horses play together πŸ˜†πŸ₯°

Hoof trimming day for some of the rescue horses, I'm still recovering from a broken shoulder and I'm not really in top shape after Kingsley passed so I've had the lovely Zoe who is finishing up her qualifications as a barefoot trimmer out to help 😊 Zoe trimmed Joe, Jeremy, Blaze, Silk and Pio and did a fantastic job! Bear obviously had to get involved, and as soon as Silk came in Taylor, the chicken was there ready to catch the treats that he dropped πŸ˜† bonus last photo of Blazey with his pink sunblock on! Zoe is taking new clients in the Blue Mountains / lithgow area, and i highly recommend her πŸ‘Œ

Franklin is recovering well and feeling good! His behaviour is already settling down from earlier, and now we can walk past the other ponies with minimal silliness 😊 i can't wait for him to be able to join them! Desi and Bowie have also responded really well to the Ertugliflozin! It's a total game changer for metabolic laminitis, very happy with their progress πŸ₯° Frankie's eating much better now and should be able to stop the Ulcer Shield soon, too 🀞 our vet is really happy with his progress! Winning! πŸ₯°

Life goes on, Bear is learning to do zoomies without his bro, and it brings me so much joy to see him happy and playful πŸ₯° can't believe his guy will be 10 in a couple of months. Always my baby πŸ’™

Franklin is officially gelded! πŸ₯° He has started to get a tummy back and some coverage on his ribs, so it was time to get those pesky knackers gone. He is still not able to eat the amount of hay per day that I'd like to see him eating, but the omeprazole and twice daily hand walks on the grass have really helped his appetite. I'm so excited for the next chapter in this sweet boys' journey! It turns out i also had my facts incorrect about how he was housed previously, he was only in the dog pen at times temporarily (i had numerous people message me to tell me they had seen him in the pen which is my fault for presuming it meant he was in there 24/7) but was actually kept in a round yard.
Friendly reminder to everyone that my goal here is to rehabilitate horses, raise awareness, and educate humans. My aim is to NEVER point blame or shame anyone. Everyone's lives are different, and all I want to do is help the animals and humans that are in need. I always stick to facts as best as I can and share the stories of these animals to gain the much needed support of our community to help me help them. I HATE drama, I want nothing to do with it. Any politics and drama surrounding the animals that come into my care are none of my business. Please respect my aim here is to be a place where people can surrender their animals knowing that they will receive the best care possible.

Dahlia's front hooves have now been officially trimmed! Dahlia arrived at the sanctuary in 2021. She was entirely untouchable and utterly terrified of humans, especially human hands. Four years of hard work, patience, and compassion, and she's now happy to be caught, touched, and hooves trimmed! Liz has worked miracles with this big girl. Now, to work on those hind feet πŸ˜…πŸ˜Š

My beautiful friend, Amalie, found a sandy footprint on the back seat of her car, it was Kingsleys from when he last jumped in her car because every car is his car πŸ’• she turned it into this gorgeous little sandy footprint which is just too beautiful and did the lovliest watercolour painting. I had to share these because they're just too sweet to keep to myself. I have so much gratitude for having wonderful and supportive humans around me πŸ™ it's not been a week yet since I said goodbye, and it's still so painfully fresh. I know it takes time. I miss him so much it physically hurts πŸ’”

PLEASE geld your stallions!! It is never too late, and they never get too old to be gelded. Senior stallions can be safely gelded just like younger ones. Just do it. Geld your stallions so they can have a peaceful and healthy life. Franklin got a whiff of the mares at the end of the property on his walk and lost his mind. This isn't his fault. This is the product of his testosterone ruling his body and mind. I can't even begin to imagine how stressful it was for him to be in a small pen surrounded by mares. No wonder he is so intense and so thin. He is also on a strict re-feeding program. You can see in this video his tummy is bloated, which is from a small bit of hay. He has started omeprazole to help line his stomach and help with any ulcers he may have from long times without feed. Franklin is booked in to be gelded next week and honestly couldn't happen soon enough, it'll take a while after his gelding for him to settle and when I feel it's safe for him and the other horses to be introduced he will then finally have horse friends that he can relax with and finally learn how to be a happy horse. It's so sad that he has to live a life of quarantine and constant adrenaline because of his testicles. That'll all change soon, my little friend! He has a long road ahead of him πŸ’•
Did you know that you can sponsor our horses to help them on their rehabilitation journey? Franklin has been added to our sponsorship page, ready for some kind people to help him on his journey πŸ™ link below and in our bio

The job of rescue never ends. Just because I'm personally going through one of the worst things imaginable doesn't mean these animals stop needing me. Welcome to the sanctuary to this tiny chap who i have named Franklin. Franklin arrived last night after the RSPCA had been to the property he was kept at, and he needed somewhere to go immediately to keep him safe. Franklin is, unfortunately, a stallion, and he has been kept in a very small dog pen in a paddock surrounded by mares. His own personal hell. As you can see he is emaciated (he's a Shetland x Mini horse) and Kim our vet has already been out to see him and we've started his re-feeding program to safely feed him up and get some weight on him before we do his gelding surgery. Little Franklin is surprisingly extremely sweet, although quite terrified and shys if you lift your hand. I'm looking forward to getting to know this tiny guy and can't wait to see him get back to a healthy weight and be gelded so he can go out and be with other horses like every horse should be. Welcome to the sanctuary Franklin πŸ’•

We said goodbye to Kingsley, The King, this morning at 9 am. Until the very end, he still insisted on doing his farm duties. His tough character would have never given up, but his body was ready to go. It was peaceful, in the loungeroom in one of his many favourite beds, and as comfortable as it possibly could have been. He rapidly started to decline the last 24 hours, and I wasn't going to let our regal gentleman go out without his dignity and stoic spirit intact. He was my protector, my heart and soul, the keeper of our little family. It's been an honour being his Mum. Rest well, my boy, 2015 - 2025

Peters Paddock ponies are doing really well. Nova has finally settled. Poor guy couldn't quite find his feet and became quite 'riggy' (stallion like behaviour), especially when Cleo came into season. That has all settled down now and thankfully they're co-existing like a happy little herd again ☺️ Jeremy had a little ouchie on his shoulder that I've been treating daily and it's finally granulating over nicely so that's good, and of course Arthur is off doing his own thing πŸ˜† now that Nova has settled into this herd is plan on leaving him here for a while with these guys some he can feel safe and secure. Horses hate changing herds constantly, so the best gift we can give them is stability. Until he is ready to start the next phase of his rehab journey, this will be his life 😊
