It’s always worth checking just incase you come across a Joey that needs help.
Call a wildlife rescue group- or contact your local carer.
Never approach a fully grown adult roo. It’s always handy to have a towel or box In the car incase you come across injured wildlife If you can get close to the animal, place a towel, blanket, jumper or pillowcase gently over the animal's head, a scared animal will feel a lot calmer with its eyes covered.
Alternatively then you can take injured wildlife fo a vet or wildlife hospital
Never handle bats or snakes unless you are trained to do so or vaccinated against lyssa virus.

Sound advice for trauma season

🌼 September 1st, the first day of Spring signifies the beginning of trauma season for our wildlife.
☀️ The upcoming beautiful sunny days and abundance of food spark a flurry of activity. Our native wildlife are on the move!
- Defending territory
- Courting
- Building nests & reproducing
- Reptiles will be coming out of brumation
- Youngsters will be learning the ways of the world & young birds will be setting their wings to the sky for the very first time.

This is the busiest time of year for rescuers & wildlife hospitals across the country who will experience an influx of patient admissions due to:
- Road accidents
- Domestic animal attacks
- Window strikes
- Orphanhood & kidnapping.
- Misadventure

This trauma season:
- Be sure to save the number for your local wildlife rescue team ☎️
- Be rescue ready by keeping a box & towel in the car 📦
- Slow down & stay alert at dusk & dawn 🚗
- Never handle dangerous animals such as snakes, bats, raptors & adult kangaroos ❌🐍🦇🦅🦘❌
- If you encounter an animal in distress, place it in a box, keep it warm, dark & quiet & transport it to your nearest vet or wildlife hospital. 📦 🚑 🏥
- Do not offer food or water to sick/injured wildlife 🙊
- Check deceased marsupials for pouch young 🦘
- Before rescuing a baby bird, stand back & watch for its parents. They are often not far away 🐣
- And, feel free to call your local rescue group or wildlife hospital for advice if you are unsure of anything. We are here to help 📞 😊

If you’re bitten or scratched it is important to seek medical attention within 5-7 days even though rare if a bat does carry the lyssavirus and you’re not vaccinated against it. the result is death and there’s nothing the hospital can do outside of that time frame unfortunately. It’s not worth your life so please dont handle bats unless you’re qualified to do so.

Hi and welcome to my page, I’ve created this as an easy place to tag me on community pages if there’s an emergency rescue needed, or you wanted to follow along for education. I’m pip, I’ve recently completed my training through Wildlife SEQ where we as volunteers rescue, care for and rehabilitate our Australian wildlife. My jobs rescue and transport and caring for orphan baby possums. I work 2 jobs aswell as this and have a family so I won’t be available all the time to respond but I’ve provided some numbers on the bio you can call if I can’t be on the ground.
Thank you
