🌿🐴 Elevate Your Horse's Performance with Sigafoos Glue-On Shoes 🐴🌿

In the quest for excellence in equine care across Australia, securing your horse's shoes for the long haul is paramount. That's where we step in with our top tip for ensuring that your Sigafoos cuff shoes stay put for 6 to 10 weeks!

🔍 Key to Success: Proper hoof preparation is crucial, but beware—the line between just right and over-rasping is fine. Drawing inspiration from the wisdom of Dr. Luke's days using FormaHoof, we've discovered that using the edge of the rasp to slightly roughen the hoof wall improves the bond between hoof wall, glue and cuff. This technique, while simple, can significantly impact your horse's comfort and shoe longevity.

🎉 Why Choose Us? Our approach combines traditional expertise with modern innovation to provide your horse with the best possible care. From the paddock to the show ring, ensure your horse steps with confidence and stability.

📞 Get in Touch: Ready to give your horse the advantage of Sigafoos glue-on shoes? Contact us today to schedule an appointment! Our team is excited to support your horse's journey to excellence with personalized, professional hoof care.

📲 Share Your Story: Have you tried Sigafoos cuff shoes on your horse? We'd love to hear about your experience! Share your stories in the comments or send us a message. Let's build a community of informed and passionate horse lovers!

🐴✨ This recent post highlights the confusion owners experience when trying to decide 'what's best' for their horses. ✨🐴

One of the biggest issues horse owners face at the feed store is needing help comparing the nutritional differences. 🤔 If you walk into the supermarket right now and pick up a packet of chips, a box of chocolates, or a protein bar, the nutritional information is displayed in the exact same format — you can compare apples with apples. 🍏🍎

However, it is very inconsistent when you walk into the feed store and start trying to read the nutritional information on the back of a bag. Different companies display different pieces of information with various units and quantities. This makes comparing apples with apples at the feed store nearly impossible. 🚫

Then layer in some fancy packaging, a few slogans and buzz words and suddenly, you're buying a feed that may not be appropriate for the horse. 📦✨

The marketing gaff below highlights that owners are really starting to take note of what they're buying and how these decisions affect the health of their horses. Like many of the comments on the original post, owners can see how the marketing of this product makes little sense. 🤷‍♂️

How can a feed that was designed for weight gain also be safe for horses that are overweight and have an underlying metabolic condition? 🧐

Simply put, the answer is that this particular feed is not safe for overweight horses with or without an underlying metabolic condition. Yes, it may be low in sugar, but that's not the whole picture regarding insulin dysregulation and obesity. Factors like amino acid concentration can reduce the chances of your horse's ability to regulate their insulin and weight. 🐎💪

So horse owners - keep questioning and thinking about what you're feeding your horses! Compared to many of the responses in the comments, horse nutrition is simple. Yes, we are learning about how nutrition affects our four-legged friends, but you don't need a PhD to feed your horse to stay healthy. 📚🌾

Want to learn more about how to feed your horse? Contact us today to book an appointment! 📞💬

Did you know that HYGAIN® ZERO® is actually designed for poor doing horses?!

ZERO® is classified as a “full feed” which means you have to feed a large quantity to meet nutritional requirements. For example, a 500kg horse requires a minimum of 2kg per day to meet its nutritional requirements (alongside roughage).

ZERO® is commonly mistaken as the best feed for good doing horses in need of some weight loss, when actually it's actually best for horses who are poor doers that require a low sugar/starch feed.

While still completely safe for our more 'rotund' equine friends, a low dose rate feed like HYGAIN® META SAFE® may be a better choice to meet their daily nutritional requirements.

We can help you choose the most suitable feed for your horse! Use the Quick Feed Advisor on our website or create a free Nutrikey account for personalised nutrition advice. https://pages.hygain.com.au/nutrikey

🐴💡 Understanding the Pre-Purchase Examination Process 🧐✨

When you're considering bringing a new horse into your life, a thorough pre-purchase examination is crucial. Here's what it entails at Motion Equine Centre:

1️⃣ Comprehensive Physical Exam: Our vet's meticulous assessment from nose to tail ensures no detail is overlooked 🩺
2️⃣ Gait Analysis: Tailored to the horse's age, breed, and discipline, including walks, trots, and canters under various conditions. We employ both subjective and objective methods for a full understanding 🏃‍♂️🐎
3️⃣ Proper Surface: To ensure accuracy, we perform these exams in our clinic's controlled environment, steering clear of unsuitable terrains 🌱
4️⃣ Flexion Testing: These are interpreted carefully, especially in the absence of a baseline lameness, and considered alongside any physical signs of osteoarthritis 🤸‍♀️
5️⃣ Diagnostic Options: Depending on your needs, we might suggest X-rays, ultrasounds, blood testing, or endoscopy, with X-rays of all four limbs being a common recommendation for performance horses as a baseline and precaution 📊🔬

Our goal is to provide a clear, comprehensive picture of the horse's health and potential, helping you make an informed decision 🌟

🐴 Answer Revealed: Yesterday's Hoof Bruising Puzzle 🧩💡

Thank you for participating in our quiz! The correct answer is 4️⃣: The appearance of bruising depends on several factors, including the horse's size, the rate of hoof/sole growth, and the sole's current depth.

Damage to the sensitive tissue beneath the hoof (solar corium) may have occurred recently, but it takes time for this to become visible in the sole as it grows out in layers.

🌟 Insightful Examples:

Example 1: A 17'2 Warmblood mare with good vertical depth shows how new sole growth can indicate past trauma to the solar corium from an event like losing a shoe 3 months ago.

Example 2: A 15'1 OTTB gelding with inadequate vertical depth and lameness showcases the ongoing journey of bruising growing out, highlighting the importance of maintaining optimal sole depth.

Concerned about solar bruising, thin soles, or a lameness potentially linked to hoof issues? 🐎💬 Reach out to us today to explore how we can assist in diagnosing and treating your horse's needs.

Not all heartbars are created equal! 🌟 Over the past 10 years, the information around how important frog support is in the horse has increased exponentially. 📚🐎 New products have been developed to help support the frog and digital cushion, improving heel growth and hoof pastern alignment. 🛠💡 And with that, some frog support systems are more beneficial than others. 🔍

Here is an example of a hoof. The photos were taken of the back part of the hoof, with the hoof off the ground. Same photo with two different styles of heartbars. In the first image, a 3 degree steel heartbar was applied and in the second image a 3 degree aluminium heartbar was applied. There is one subtle difference between the two heartbars -- frog contact! 🐸 In the first image, the heartbar was manufactured for there to be a gap between the frog and the shoe, allowing the frog to descend towards the ground surface. In the second image, the heartbar is in contact with the frog, providing support and stopping the frog and digital cushion from descending towards the ground.

Which style of heartbar do you think is more beneficial? 🧐

🐎 Exploring Glue-On Shoes: Your Questions Answered! 🛠️❓

Many of our clients ask, "How long do glue-on shoes last? Are they prone to coming off?" 🤔

Our response often goes like this: "With horses, expect the unexpected! 🌟 Just like with traditional nailed shoes, without proper environmental controls, there's a risk of a shoe coming loose. However, by using a blend of Sigafoos glue-on shoes, our custom carbon fibre 3D pads, and Vettec Equipak, we've found that the shoes reliably remain in place for the advised 4-6 week period." 🕑✨ In fact, in some cases with very poor wall quality and slow hoof growth, we've had shoes last for an impressive 10 weeks! 🎉

Are you dealing with thin soles, a weak hoof wall, or chronic laminitis? Wondering if glue-on shoes could be the solution your horse needs? 💭🐴 Reach out to us today to discuss how this innovative option could benefit your equine friend.

🐴💫 Celebrating 6 Months Barefoot: A Hoof's Tale 🐾

We're so excited to share with you the journey of one of our equine friends who's been thriving barefoot for 6 months now! It's truly remarkable to witness the transformation that nature, with a helping hand, can achieve.

👀 Take a closer look at the hoof capsule - there's a visible line that tells a story of renewal and growth:

Below the line: the old hoof capsule, holding memories of the past.
Above the line: the new, healthy growth, signaling a bright future.
Interestingly, due to the way hooves grow from the coronary band downwards, the heel presents entirely new wall growth. However, the complete renewal of the hoof capsule is a gradual process, taking around 4-6 more months for full growth.

Thinking about transitioning your horse to barefoot or looking for expert advice on hoof care? We're here to help! Send us a message 📩 or comment below with your questions or experiences.

🏇💡 The Critical Role of Objective Gait Analysis in Enhancing Performance Horse Health 🌟

In the quest for equine athletic excellence, objective gait analysis stands out as a cornerstone for success. Why is it indispensable for performance horses? Let’s explore:

1️⃣ Establishing a Baseline: Every horse has a unique gait pattern, which serves as a baseline for assessing health and performance. Objective analysis captures this essential data.

2️⃣ Detecting Gait Symmetry: Early detection of asymmetries can mean the difference between a minor adjustment and a significant injury, making precise measurement is vital for longevity.

3️⃣ Localising Lameness: Through diagnostic analgesia (nerve blocks), this technology pinpoints the exact source of discomfort, allowing for targeted diagnostic and treatment strategies.

4️⃣ Monitoring Over Time: Objective data provides a clear timeline of gait changes, crucial for tracking recovery and adjusting training protocols for rehabilitation.

At Motion Equine Centre, we leverage the Equinosis system to ensure that every horse we care for receives the most advanced and precise analysis available. It’s not just about maintaining health; it’s about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in equine performance.

Interested in how objective gait analysis can transform your approach to equine health and performance? Contact us to learn more about our services and how we can help your horse achieve its full potential. ☎️

🤨 Insulin Dysregulation - What the… 🫠 🤯

In the world of metabolic diseases of the horse there have been a number of advancements made in the past two decades 🐎. When Dr Luke started vet school nearly 20 years ago, the term Equine Metabolic Syndrome was starting to gain traction 🙉. Fast forward to today, we now understand a number of key concepts ⏩

1️⃣ Insulin plays a roll in the development of laminitis

2️⃣ Either a very large one off insulin spike or chronically elevated insulin can lead to the development of laminitis, ranging from mild to severe

3️⃣ Measuring insulin concentrations, particularly after feeding your horse’s regular diet helps us understand their ability to regulate insulin

4️⃣ ~ 90% of all laminitis cases have an underlying metabolic condition

5️⃣ Diets high in non-structural carbohydrates lead to insulin dysregulation in horses that are genetically prone and likely have a certain population of microbiome

At Motion Equine Centre we are passionate about insulin dysregulation and laminitis 🥰. Want to know more about how we can help? Visit our website and read the benefits of being part of our Laminitis Monitoring Program.

🐴💡 Exploring Objective Gait Analysis in Equine Care: Video Analysis and Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) ✨

In the realm of equine sports medicine, objective gait analysis has become an invaluable tool, offering unparalleled insights into the health and performance of our beloved horses. Among the forefront technologies are the Video Analysis and IMU systems

Video analysis uses technology to capture and evaluate a horse's movement. Data is collected with either one or more cameras capable of capturing movement at a high frame rate. Recently, technology in the smart phone has been used to help understand gait symmetry. This method allows for a visual assessment of gait patterns, providing useful insights into the horse's biomechanics. While beneficial, the video systems often requires manual interpretation of data and can be subjected to parallax errors, which can introduce variability in the analysis.

In contrast, the IMU systems use advanced sensor technology to provide real-time, objective data on a horse's gait. This includes detailed metrics on symmetry, stride, and other key parameters. The precision and reliability of the IMU systems enable us to diagnose even the most subtle forms of lameness, track rehabilitation progress accurately, and customise treatment plans to each horse’s specific needs.

At Motion Equine Centre we use an IMU system called the Equinosis. The Equinosis offers a level of detail and accuracy that is paramount for the health and performance of our equine athletes. Whether it's diagnosing lameness, monitoring recovery, or ensuring that a horse is in peak condition, the Equinosis system is an essential tool in our veterinary toolkit.

Interested in learning more about how the Equinosis system can benefit your horse? Reach out to us today, and let's discuss how our advanced gait analysis services can support your horse's journey to excellence.
