Do you know how about the high su***de rates of veterinarians? We know you would probably prefer to see cute pictures of the patients we see but we don't want to hide the realities of the pressure our vets and nurses face on a regular basis.

Although all our staff face daily challenges in our industry, the work we do is crucial as well as deeply fulfilling. Storm visited us for her 10 week vaccination and new pup check over. With our modern vaccine regime she will be ready to socialise and explore the big wide world sooner at 11 weeks of age. We look forward to seeing you grow storm!

❤️ Meet little Herman, the 17 week old Cavoodle puppy 🐶

Poor Herman fractured his growth plate in his right Tibia which required surgical repair 🤕. Thankfully, Dr. Karin Davids was able to come in on her day off to do the surgery.

As you can see, Herman enjoyed plenty of cuddles and kisses and is recovering well! 🥰 (see the video in our comments)

If you are unable to have your pets inside, then plenty of water and shade is essential. Perhaps someone can take care of them if you have to work or have other commitments?
* Troughs or containers should be firmly fixed so they cannot overturn.
* Ensure water containers are in the shade and add plenty of ice to the water to keep it cool.
* Perhaps you can place a clam shell pool in the shade and fill it with water so your dog can wade in the water to keep cool?

𝐀𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞:
* The young
* The elderly
* The overweight
* Dark coloured animals
* Those with flat faces such as Frenchies, Pugs, Bulldogs and Persian cats
* Animals that have been sick or have a previous history of respiratory disease

𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞:
* Excessive panting or difficulty breathing
* Increased heart and respiratory rate
* Drooling
* Mild weakness, stupor or even collapse
* Seizures/Convulsing
* Bloody diarrhoea and vomiting along with an elevated body temperature

𝐌𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐋𝐘:
If you are ever unsure then please contact us immediately and if you see an animal in distress in a hot car then dial 000. The Police are equipped to dispatch officers quickly from the nearest police station which is critical under these circumstances. All it takes is 6 minutes for an animal to perish in a hot car.

💐😸 With Valentine's Day just days away be sure to check what's in your bouquets if you live with a feline friend! Lily toxicity in cats is an emergency.

Lilies contain substances that are extremely toxic to cats. All parts of the lily plant are toxic, including petals, stems, leaves, and pollen. Note that, even the water in a vase of cut lilies is thought to be toxic, and the pollen can fall onto the cat’s hair and be ingested via grooming. 😱

Symptoms of lily toxicity in cats include vomiting (may contain bits of lily), excessive salivation, and signs associated with kidney failure including disinterest in food, depression, lethargy, dehyrdation, excessive or no urination, and death. Ingesting even just small amounts can cause rapidly fatal kidney failure (generally within 12 to 72 hours of ingestion).

🏥 The key to a chance of successful treatment are early recognition of lily toxicity, and prompt veterinary management of kidney failure.

🙅‍♀️ Make sure your cat never has access to lilies of any kind, including cut flowers, pot plants, or in garden beds.

If you suspect lily toxicity, seek immediate veterinary attention.
