We would like to let you all know the pelican that got attacked by a dog is doing well.

We have been working around the clock with this beautiful female pelican, we have now started to give her physiotherapy.

All her wounds started to look a lot better .

It’s been a long progress with this poor girl as she was in a bad way.

Today she put a smile on our faces as she stood up on both of her legs for a short time, but better than not as we were a bit worried at first.

That’s why they do need time to recover and that’s what we are about giving the birds time to heal.

This pelican has come along way as she couldn’t even hold herself up on those legs, also fighting infection and being under weight as well.

So glad Dr Claude gave her a second chance to live, and giving her the love that she definitely needed.

She now has a good appetite and she is feeling so much better, but still a long way to go for her recovery.

Our brother Jason went fishing last night at Maroochydore with the 2 boys, while they were fishing the boys noticed there was something wrong with the pied cormorant.

So they picked him up and the boys kept it warm until they got him home, but unfortunately he passed away when they arrived.

It’s a shame that fishing line and hooks ended his life.

The boys couldn’t believe how much line he had in his mouth, so he must of ingested hooks as well.

So we told the boys that’s why we tell people to look left and right before they cast out, or throw some of your bait to the side while casting out, as the poor bird is always out for a feed.

We feel this does help the water birds.

Glad the cormorant didn’t die alone in the cold on the boat ramp.

So thank you boys and Jason for bringing him home.

Today we released the pelican that we rescued 5 days ago back where she came from in Caloundra and a seagull.

Both were line entanglement, also we got our friends John and Julie to release our purple swamp hen that we raised from a chick.

It was so beautiful to see the other pelicans as well, so we checked them ones out while we were there, gladly we couldn’t see any injuries, but there were 6 still over on the sand bar but they all had their heads tucked in from the cold winds.

We have been getting phone calls about a pelican out at Bjelke-Petersen Dam, we have been worried about it.

So we had to stop everything what we were doing, got our stuff ready , so mum and us jumped in the van and headed out, it was a 2 and half hour drive one way.

When we arrived it was cold but we were focused on the pelican.

We were so happy we rescued the pelican she has an injured wing the poor sweet pelican.

Now we are on our way home with the pelican.

We got a phone call from a lady this morning about this juvenile pelican, actually the poor lady felt dreadful as she was the one who hooked her up accidentally as the pelican swam towards her line.

But she did the right thing and gave us a phone call to let us know, we went in this morning and we had no luck of getting her.

So this afternoon we went back in and she was on the other side of the Caloundra passage, so when we coach her over and we rescued her, we weren’t going to give up on her, so glad we had her in our arms as she was in a lot of pain.

So we text the lady to let her know that we rescued her, she was so happy that we got her as she said she has been sick all day worrying about her.

Now she will be in our care for a few days of pain relief and antibiotics.

We were so sad with this poor pelican that came from wildlife Noosa yesterday , when William arrived with her we said she’ll need stitches.

So we took the drive up to Eumundi to see Dr Claude.

Dr Claude and the lovely nurse did so well again ,as the poor pelican was a bit weak, but she survived surgery, she had so many wounds around the butt area , we all think she was attacked by a dog as she had teeth marks in her muscle.

The poor darling has missing tail feathers too, don’t know how she has survived this ordeal as she did have another wound that looks a few days old.

But we are so glad someone did spot her at Noosa.

Dr Claude did so well and the nurse too caring for her as she is underweight as well, thank you for your efforts.

Also she was full of lice on her body and inside her bill.

We kept a good eye on her for a few hours after surgery as it took her a while to fully wake up, no wonder she wouldn’t had much sleep out there.

We now just hope she will survive with our care and the antibiotics , pain relief and cream .

Just hope we can pull her through now, she was awake this morning, so that’s a bonus and she kept her fish down as well that we force fed her.

08/07/2024

It was so great that William from wildlife Noosa came down today to pick up a pelican and a darter that we cared for for a few weeks .

William took both birds back to their area that they know.

Both birds were beautiful to look after, the darter was so sweet to look after, and the pelican too , it was so good to see her not limping and the wounds healed up from fishing line and hooks.

William said both birds went off well.

Today it would have been our sisters birthday today ,vicki would have turned 49 years old, sadly Vicki only got to 20 years old.

Vicki hasn’t been with us for 29 years now but a day never goes by without thinking of her, especially when it comes to birthdays and anniversary’s.

Like today she will be in our hearts again, Vicki’s favourite song was , I swear , by All For One.

Tonight our niece Ellie will be singing at a venue in the Illawarra area, which is so nice.

We got a phone call at midday today for this beautiful young pelican, she was sighted getting tumbled in the ocean at kings beach, so we stopped what we were doing , jumped in the van, then while we were driving the people said she has taken off, so we turned around and headed off back to our centre.

We were back for 5 minutes then we get another phone call from another lovely people saying there is a pelican in salt st at kings beach, we thought straight away that this pelican must be a young young juvenile, so we headed in and the people were keeping a good eye on her while we were trying to get in there as quick as we could.

We were so blessed when we seen her still there so we parked in someone’s driveway and walked up, poor little thing you could tell she was getting weak and exhausted, we threw her a fish and she went for it, then we rescued her.

Oh boy she was full of lice and very under weight, pelicans are still coming out of the sky’s very weak and thin, so very sad, especially the ones that are landing anywhere and no one can’t spot them, so them ones will just die in a horrible way , starvation and exhaustion, this really worries us, so that’s why we keep these really young pelicans in care a bit so they will not get themselves in trouble again.

We have nicknamed her salt.

Now she will join the other young ones that we have in care.

If anyone wants to support these beautiful juvenile pelicans that we have in care you can make a donation to www.twinnies.com.au

This will help go towards there 🐠 and it will be a big thank you from all the pelicans and us too.

This is one of our special moments looking after this magnificent Northern Petrel.

Lately these beautiful birds have been coming in weak and exhausted.

This one was one lucky bird to come into our care as she was very anemic, and malnourished, couldn’t hold her head up, she was one very flat bird.

Best of all it was so beautiful to see her fly and looked down at us while she flew over us.

This afternoon we received another 2 crested terns from the RSPCA from Eumundi, also we have rescued a couple also and members of the public have picked them up from the beach and delivered them to us, all have the same problems.

These poor little seabirds have been coming in lately very weak and thin.

When they come in they need the warmth first then fatten up a bit , then they go out in an aviary so they can get the sun, and to get water proofed again.

They loose their water proofing so quick after being so sick and weak, this means they can’t preen themselves to keep waterproofed.

Now we just have to give them plenty of fish and get them strong again.

Not sure if you all can remember Pedro the pelican that our mum and dad picked up for us at kilcoy, he was the one that was walking on the side of road, he was full of lice and very very weak and exhausted.

Look at him now his bill has grown and he is too, but he is still very young at this stage for release.

Mum left this morning to go and pick up another very young pelican that was rescued by another carer named Caroline at Biloela, the poor pelican was rescued between Biloela and Banana, she was walking on the road, Evon met Caroline at calliope to pick up the pelican, glad Evon helped with the transport to make the trip a little shorter for mum to pick up, mum then picked up the pelican from Evon who is another great carer at 1770.

Mum is still travelling home with the young pelican.

This breaks our hearts hearing that these beautiful young juvenile pelicans are dying out their in the middle of know where, wish we had a big truck we would collect them all and try and save them from weakness.

That’s why we won’t release Petro until he knows what to do, he still has the baby croak, also he is not quite matured yet, we will know when the time is right for him for his release.

We have been getting phone calls about pelicans all over Australia asking us what to do, how to care for them, until they can get to a rehabilitation centre.

This is the little pelican that was getting pecked at by the other pelican chick, she is doing so well, they grow so fast.

Eating well and we are so happy the way she is growing at the right pace .

Cheeky little pelican chick, they sleep a lot when they are this young.

17/06/2024

We had one pelican fly in, then a week later 2 fly in, today we had these beautiful 4 fly in, think word had has got out, we are in our element as we know that they will be tangled free from hooks and line, we have rescued some here on our property that have flown in with a hook in it, actually they were gang hooks, gladly we got her.

Who knows these pelicans could be the ones we have looked after as it does happen.

They must circle above us and see our pelicans that we have on our dam that we have name Pelican paradise .

We just put the purple background so you can see how beautiful they are, even the ibis.

The male pelican is at the front and 3 females at the back.

Can you remember when we met Janine at Gympie three and half weeks ago, he was all tangled up in fishing line, so he had to come into our care for his wounds to heal.

Today Sara and Bazz from Turtles in Trouble came down to pick him up so he could go back to Harvey Bay, they told us they will keep a good eye out for him, that made us feel so much better.

He was enjoying his time in the recovery area before he got picked up.

They said when he got released he had his mate waiting for him.

So this holidays coming up please fish carefully as the pelicans and other seabirds are a lot more hungry in winter time.

Thank you to all who was involved with his rescue and transporting him.

This beautiful family phoned us this afternoon about this poor female pelican at Maroochydore.

She was struggling to paddle over to us no wonder as she was all tangled up.

When we finally rescued her and had a good look we said oh no we couldn’t believe or the hooks she had on her..

This poor sweet heart has been like it for a few days as we could tell by her wounds.

We thought she might have had to go to the vets but gladly she didn’t have to.

She was so calm in our arms while removing the tackle, we had a lovely man who helped us cut the barbs as we weren’t strong enough to cut it, so he had the muscles to do it for us, he was over the moon that he could help us.

So we brought her home so she could go on some antibiotics and for her to rest the leg, as she had a bit of a limp.

The poor darling will have a good night sleep as she wouldn’t had one for a few days being that tangled up.

Glad we rescued her and she is tangled free now.

06/06/2024

We captured a snake today ,we will release him in a good area ,apparently there is gossip going about us releasing a pelican to another carer to release her back home to Bribie ,she was eager to go which was only very minor injury. As mum has always said if you need to complain in public or on social media, put your name to it . We were told by one carer something but couldn’t finish the conversation as she didn’t want to involve the other person ,not sure what’s going on .Leave us out of your negative comments.

This beautiful lady took the drive to us all the way from Nanango to drop off this beautiful Great Eastern Grebe, he was found on the road near the power station there.

He had a vet check out there , he had a very bruised and a wound to his wing, we have been force feeding him twice a day for 3 weeks, but this week he shocked us he actually starting to eat all on his own now.

Just a beautiful bird to look after, he is one lucky bird to survive after being hit by a car since he was rescued on the side of the road.

Must be a big dam out that way, so we will be looking for him as we want to release him in his right habitat.

WE KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN!!!!

You know why? they don’t have human disturbance, but they trust us, we don’t let anyone in at pelican paradise.

As we have pelicans flying in and out of here,as you all know.

It’s just amazing how they pick our place to breed, we don’t mind at all, it’s just beautiful.

So special to get this pic of the baby pelican chick coming out of the egg shell.

This beautiful pelican is going back home to Bribie Island today.

She has been in our care for a short time as she had a minor hook injury to the chest.

This pelican will be happy to go back home as she has done more travelling than being with us, she got rescued by another group that took them a while to rescue, then the RSPCA came to get her, she went to Wacol in Brisbane to remove the hook and stayed overnight.

Then we got a phone call by the RSPCA saying that we need to get her out of here .

So she got driven up to us by one of their volunteers, the poor girl.

Today she will be driven back by the wildlife group who rescued her.

She will be one happy pelican to be home again at Bribie island.

This beautiful seagull came into us a few days ago, look another one tangled up.

When the lovely young girls brought him in and handed him over , we said the poor darling, he is very underweight, no wonder with all that fishing line wrapped around him not able to eat, also he had a hook down his throat.

He regurgitate his own hook up which is great, now we just have to fatten him up, glad he didn’t have to have stomach surgery.

This poor juvenile crested tern came into us yesterday by four lovely people, they seen him struggling on the beach at Currimundi, they said he was making a noise when they picked him up, we said he was probably thinking someone has finally spotted me.

As soon as we had him in our hands, we removed the hook and all that terrible fishing line in his mouth and around his wings, he was so calm when we were removing the line around his tongue and the rest of his body, also we gave his wounds a good clean.

This bird could have starved to death as he couldn’t even open his beak probably, so glad the family spotted him and brought him out.

He enjoyed his good tuck in of fish, he was absolutely starving.

TO ALL WHO FISH, PLEASE SHARE THE WATER WAYS AND FISH 🎣 RESPONSIBLY, as we have had so many birds tangled up in the last 2 weeks and their is more yet to be rescued.

So please be more careful as this can be fatal to all seabirds.

Enjoy yourself while fishing but just watch the wildlife around you.

As we can’t stand seeing them injured.

Late this afternoon we got a phone call from ANARRA about this juvenile pelican.

It was a team effort from the wildlife groups to get him, Anarra and turtles in trouble along with a local boat owner even got in to help rescue this poor male pelican, so well done getting him.

Then Janine drove up to Maryborough to collect the pelican, so we could meet Janine at Gympie.

So mum and us jumped in the van and headed off tonight to collect the pelican off Janine, thank you Janine for helping us out .

We removed all the fishing line of the pelican with Janine’s help , so he could travel more comfortable home.

Now we just hope he will regurgitate that hook up all on his own as it can happen, our fingers are crossed that will happen.

Almost home with him, and the people have named him Dave, this poor pelican could have lost his life if he never got rescued as he could have got strangled in all that fishing line.

So thank you who was all involved, now we will care for him.

Last Sunday we rescued this poor big fella, he is the most gentle pelican to care for.

The fisherman was caring for him, so we nicknamed him Zane, this pelican has been in our care before and how we know that, he knew what to do when we brought him back to our rehab, also he ate straight away, also he loves to get pretty close to fisherman while their fishing.

The rusty hook came out without a problem, but it caused him to have a limp the poor darling, he is enjoying his fish while being in care, been taking all his antibiotics really well.
