As two of the Uncanny Animals family are competing at the National level this weekend - Annie’s daughter Cheska in Acrobatic Gymnastics and Lori’s son Lennox in Lacrosse (go kids!🌟) - and with several other team members away for events, we’ve decided to give our whole team a well-deserved long weekend.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for your understanding. We promise to be back next week refreshed and ready to pamper your pets 💖💖💖

The dog grooming competition wasn’t on this year, but that’s didn’t stop one of our “staff” from bringing home a ribbon from the Royal Melbourne Show! Many of you know Delphi from being our little assistant in the shop… she plans on being a pet groomer/rescuer/behaviouralist in the future! However, this clever gal has other talents too, winning her category in sewing at the Royals! Encouraged to upcycle, she used the little painted dog top her Aunty Worm .tas gave to her. Thank you and Worm for inspiring the next generation of thrifty upcyclers!

Happy Birthday to Maddie! 🎉 If you know UA, then you definitely know Maddie. She’s been with us since almost the very beginning and has been such a huge part of shaping this place into what it is today.
Maddie has this rare gift for creating special bonds with every animal she cares for. Honestly, I’ve never met anyone with a memory like hers… if your dog has ever been groomed here, there’s a 99% chance Maddie remembers them (and exactly which toe they don’t want touched 😂).
She’s also the queen of thoughtful touches - always taking genuine interest in people’s passions/quirky interests and finding little ways to celebrate them (like her “just because” gifts). We adore you, Maddie, and we hope your birthday is as wonderful as you are. 💖

P.S. I’ve been saving that last photo of you for nine months just for this moment 😂 please don’t hate me lol.

Since beautiful Zerin from came in while I was starting darling Biscoff’s groom and captured the last two photos in these slides, I thought I would post the finished groom (first pic!) 🥰

Angora Rabbits are the Rabbits I see most - which makes sense!

Angoras were originally bred for the long fibers of their coat, known as “Angora wool.” Of course they are the cutest pet family members now 🥰

Generally the coat can be maintained by combing or “plucking”, but as the coat produces so much wool it can easily become matted and in those cases, particularly for the comfort and safety of the skin, clipping it back is the only option to start fresh.

I managed to get the tangles out of the feet (as we never cut back fur on the feet as they do not have pads like cats, dogs etc) and tried to save as many whiskers as possible. Now Biscoff is more comfy and sports an almost Miami Poodle like cut for now, hehe. We love you Biscoff! And thank you Z for you awesome photos!!!

Regular nail trims aren’t just about neat paws…they’re essential for your dog’s comfort and long-term health!

Overgrown nails can alter your dog’s natural foot position and gait, placing undue stress on their paws, tendons, ligaments, and joints. This can contribute to splay-foot, arthritis, joint degeneration, mobility challenges, posture problems and cracking nails 😬

That’s why we recommend a clip every 3–4 weeks to keep your pup comfy, mobile, and happy on their feet 💅🐶

Nail trims are included in all our Full Grooms and many Mini Grooms — so if you’re visiting regularly, we’ve got it covered.
Just need a quick paw-dicure? You can book in for nail clips almost any day! 🐕💖

How old is your dog in “dog years?” (Chart on next slide!)

We’re not sure, but we think Bob might be the oldest doggy on our books! He’s almost 20 years around the sun this year 🤭 Here he is with his new mate, Mimi.

He’s my family dog- I picked him up from the shelter when I moved out of home for my then little sister who was only 6. My sister is now a fully grown adult that has finished university and is in the workforce 😂

I love and owe a lot to this little guy. Those that remember my early days would know I learnt how to groom on Bob (having two hairless dogs wasn’t great to learn on 🤪) I even brought him into grooming school… where he was so naughty and embarrassed me in front of the trainers 😂

We love our golden oldies. Our goal as groomers is to make the process as quick, efficient, and stress-free as possible, ensuring senior pets are cared for and comfortable throughout the experience. Often that means saying goodbye to fancy hairstyles to prioritise comfort.

Sometimes, when health concerns arise due to age, we may recommend grooming be done under the supervision of a vet. It’s never an easy call, but know that these decisions come from a place of care and respect. Whether we’re grooming your oldie ourselves or referring you to a vet for safety reasons, your pet’s wellbeing will always come first.

Japanese Chinese/ Japanese Spaniel gloriousness 💖 Did you know that the origins of the Japanese Chin actually originated in China? So many breed names can be confusing in this way where the their breed name may have a geographic place in them (sometimes because they were popularised or refined there) but it isn’t where they originated. Can you think of other breeds like this?
