I have had a fair few people ask me lately about the prices of colour canaries in Australia, particularly the rare varieties.

I’ve put together this price list as a rough guide. It’s a “guide only” and based off what I am aware has been paid or have paid myself.

Prices may vary depending on quality, age and availability.

Happy to take feedback.

On a side note: how good is it that we have ~150 varieties that are currently possible in Australia!

UPDATE : I have had some feedback on this post, just confirming that this is not an ad with birds for sale, nor is it associated with any club. These are my thoughts based on the rare breed canaries that I have sold or purchased and is a discussion point around the beautiful varieties of canaries that either already exist or have the genetic potential to exist here in Australia with some focus on development.

A couple of hens for my 2023 Breeding Season

This year NCS Birdroom Australia entered 5 varieties of Recessive White Ground birds at the C.C.B.A.V.Annual Show held on the weekend. Brown Pastel Recessive White, Opal Recessive White, Agate Recessive White, Black Recessive White, & Recessive White Lipochrome.

Although it is still very early days for us and we have a long way to go in improving these varieties to mix it on the show bench against some of the more established varieties. It still felt great to have two Recessive White birds with trophies on the champions bench at the end of the day.

I loved the discussions that having these birds on the show bench sparked with other breeders and I’m looking forward to being able to increase the number of birds and varieties of Recessive whites on the show bench next year.

Happy with how the 2022 youngsters at NCS Birdroom are progressing.

These are Opals in Yellow and Yellow Ivory.

This year we have opals in Black and Agate in Intensive, non intensive and mosaic with all these birds being split for Recessive White.

These will form part of the recessive White Opal breeding program for 2023.

Our aim is to establish a larger genetic pool in each of the recessive white series, whilst improving the conformation of the birds in line with world show standards. This will help ensure that recessive white canaries have a healthy future in Australia.

PS. For those that have expressed interest in these birds, I will know what I have available for sale in the next month.

Happy with how the 2022 youngsters at NCS Birdroom are progressing. These are Opals in Yellow and Yellow Ivory. This year we have opals in Black and Agate in Intensive, non intensive and mosaic with all these birds being split for Recessive White. These will form part of the recessive White Opal breeding program for 2023. Our aim is to establish a larger genetic pool in each of the recessive white series, whilst improving the conformation of the birds in line with world show standards. 2022 Agate & Black Yellow Opals bred at NCS Birdroom Australia

Outcrossing the Recessive White Lipochrome into Red Ivory to broaden the genetic pool of my foundation birds. All the female young from this pair will be Red split for Recessive White. All the male offspring will be Red split for Red Ivory and Split for Recessive White. Two year project to get Recessive White birds from this line but a necessity to ensure that there is a strong foundation pool of genetics for the breed.

Nests are in and the project of bringing rare Recessive White Canary Varieties to life in Australia is underway again at NCs birdroom Australia. Recessive White black, Recessive White Clear Lipochrome, Recessive White Black Opal, Recessive White Opal Agate, Recessive White Agate, Recessive White Phaeo, Recessive White Pastel, Recessive White Graywing. Recessive White Isabel, Recessive White Brown.
