🐹 Coco update 🐹
For those who have been following our updates on our senior piggie, I haven't given up on finding every option to help keep dear Coco as healthy and comfortable as possible. She's seen multiple vets and had all of her tests review, and we are excited to share that for the first time in two months, she has actually gained a tiny but of weight!

We started her on a heart medication this week, and she had her monthly arthritis injection. We haven't heard her wheeze or cough since starting her new medication, so let's hope that she continues to show more improvements!

Once again, I want to say a huge thank you to the amazing veterinary teams who are so passionate and patient when working with us week after week to give the best care we can to all the BFFR animals. As you can imagine, paying for the veterinary care of so many animals, especially those who have complex medical conditions, is a huge challenge for a small rescue, and many times I'm not able to pay when I should. This has a huge impact on my mental health as it's a massive stress for one person to carry on their own. But each visit, staff are always so lovely and I appreciate their kindness more than they could imagine.

I have sadly had to make the difficult decision to permanently close the doors to helping anymore animals but I will keep fighting to always provide the best care I can to all the animals in care until each one has either found their forever homes or if they are ready, gain their wings with the dignity and love that every animal deserves.

Caring for animals like Coco costs thousands of dollars, but I'll never let that get in the way of doing all I can for as long as I can provide them with quality of life.

Without a car, we are unable to get animals to their vet appointments without the help and kindness of others. If you can spare 2 hours to help Lucy and her carer attend her important vet appointment today, it would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately we will have no choice but to cancel if we cannot find transport.

Dylan is starting off his Sunday with a nice warm bubble butt bath to make sure he is all fresh for the day as he had lots of urine leakage overnight. He is booked in to see the vet again tomorrow morning and may require more xrays as he still isn't passing stools like he should despite being on medications and supportive supplements to help him.

He is eating well, his energy levels and over all demeanour are much better after his procedure earlier in the week but we still have so much owing from his many vet visits over the last few days so we need all the help we can get to pay those invoices off so we can continue providing him the best care without the huge mental stress of wondering how we are going to cover his veterinary care.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

🐭 Beautiful’s Big Day 🐭
Did you know that a rat’s teeth never stop growing? Unlike ours, their teeth must be properly aligned to be naturally worn down. Otherwise, they can grow too long and cause serious health issues.

Yesterday, one of our sweet ex lab rats named Beautiful had a very important visit to The Furry Family Veterinary Clinic where Dr. John took excellent care of her. Her bottom teeth had grown too long due to misalignment, so she spent the day getting them carefully trimmed.
She handled the procedure like a champ and was so happy to be back home with her siblings!

We’ll continue to monitor her closely, as she may need regular trims and possibly even tooth removal down the line if the misalignment continues. Regular anesthesia isn’t ideal, so we’ll be working closely with her vet to ensure the best care going forward.

We’re incredibly grateful for the amazing team at Furry Family Veterinary Clinic for helping us keep our beloved furry friends happy, healthy, and comfortable.

‼️Reminder to all pet parents: Always keep an eye out for subtle changes in your pets, especially our small and exotic companions. Early detection and regular vet care can make all the difference!

💛Dylan Update – Help Us Help Him 💛
Firstly, we want to send a huge and heartfelt thank you to the incredible team at Mountain Gate Veterinary Clinic for going above and beyond to fit Dylan into their already packed schedule yesterday. Thanks to their swift & compassionate care, Dylan is feeling much better after spending the day on fluids.

During his procedure, the vet was able to remove a large amount of hard f***l matter, bringing Dylan much-needed relief. While there’s still a decent amount of softer stool remaining, we’re hopeful he’ll be able to pass it on his own with the help of medications. Dylan remains in great spirits and, true to form, still has a hearty appetite!

He’s not out of the woods yet. Dylan has a follow-up appointment tomorrow morning and may require another procedure if he's unable to go to the toilet on his own.

Here’s where we need your help more than ever. Our veterinary expenses this week have already surpassed $3,500, and we still have two more BFFR animals due for essential vet visits on Friday. As a self-funded rescue, we rely solely on the generosity of our amazing community to continue giving animals like Dylan the second chance they deserve.

If you’re able to donate, no matter how small, it truly makes a difference. Every dollar helps us provide life-saving care to beautiful souls like Dylan.

Please share, donate, and help us spread the word. Dylan and his furry friends are counting on you.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

🚨 URGENT: Dylan Needs Your Help 🚨
Please keep our brave, special needs boy Dylan in your thoughts.

Dylan, who already lives with a fractured spine & requires his bladder to be expressed twice daily, is now facing a life-threatening medical emergency.
After battling a digestive upset & being placed on antibiotics, Dylan became severely constipated & despite our best efforts with medications & supportive care, nothing has helped him go to the toilet. This morning he was in so much pain that we could no longer safely express his bladder, even with pain relief.

Dylan has been at the vet on fluids & will be going under general anesthesia for x-rays & removal of the impacted f***s. This is not a routine procedure, this is needed to save his life. His comfort, his quality of life, & his very survival depend on what happens today. Emergency veterinary care is expensive, & we can't do this without your help.

Please, if you are able, donate today to help us cover Dylan’s urgent medical expenses. Every dollar counts, & every share helps. Dylan deserves this chance & with your help, we can give it to him.

We’re so grateful for any support.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

08/09/2025

Adopting a bonded pair of rabbits gives you double the joy but not double the work. They provide emotional & social support to each other & allow you to observe heartwarming rabbit interactions.

Adopting a bonded pair of rabbits is a great choice for both rabbits & humans. Here are the main positives to consider:
1. Companionship for Each Other
• Rabbits are highly social animals. Pairs provides constant companionship, reduce loneliness & boredom.
• They groom each other, cuddle, & communicate in subtle ways, which keeps them emotionally healthy.
2. Less Work Than Bonding Later
• Bonding rabbits can be a long, stressful & sometimes unsuccessful process.
• A pre-bonded pair means you skip the challenges & get two rabbits that are already compatible.
3. Less Destructive & Anxious
• Rabbits kept alone may chew more or act out from frustration or loneliness.
• A pair tends to be more content & less destructive as they’re emotionally fulfilled.
4. You Don’t Have to Feel Guilty
• It removes the ethical dilemma of keeping a rabbit in social isolation.
• You know they're living an enriched life.
5. Routine Is Easier Than You Think
• Feeding, cleaning & playtime isn't more work for two.
• They share the same enclosure, food bowls, water source & litter box.
6. More Fun to Watch!
• Watching a pair flop together, groom or zoom around is entertaining & heartwarming.
• You get to observe natural rabbit behavior that a single rabbit wouldn't express as fully.
7. Better Mental & Physical Stimulation
• They keep each other active & curious.
• Play is more engaging, which is great for physical health & cognitive stimulation.
8. Emotional Support for Each Other
• During stressful times like vet visits or moves, rabbits cope better when their partner is with them.
• It reduces trauma & helps with recovery from illness or anxiety.

Sadly many bonded pairs remain in rescue long term as they are much less likely to get adopted compared to single rabbits. We have many beautiful bonded rabbits who have waited years for a forever home.

If you’ve thought about adopting a rabbit, we are committed to supporting adopters so they have all the correct knowledge. Inbox us your questions!
