💔 EMERGENCY – PLEASE HELP REX 💔

Two days before Christmas, Rex needs urgent veterinary care.

Rex is a 6 year old Netherland Dwarf rabbit, weighing just 530 grams. He escaped his enclosure and was attacked by a rabbit 12 times his size, leaving him with multiple wounds.

Rex urgently needs to see an exotic vet for wound care and antibiotics to prevent a life-threatening infection. He also has kidney disease, so delaying treatment is not an option.

After months of hardship and $4,600 spent fixing our only transport, we have nothing left for this kind of emergency.

Please help if you can. Even a few dollars could save Rex’s life.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible

Boots went missing overnight from his new foster home on Shane Crescent in Croydon South. He recently got a lions clip so is currently shaved due to health reasons. He is very old and would be scared and hiding. If you live in the area please check your yards, sheds and under your house 💔

We are very concerned for his safety and want him back inside where he is warm.

We couldn't be more proud of how mumma rabbit has been doing such a great job in raising two litters at the same time. Thankfully this will be her last ever litter and she will soon be able to be desexed and can then look for her forever home with Daddy bun who has already been desexed.

Celebrating the newly bonded couple with some fresh rose petals. BFFR will be taking a much needed break now until the new year but we are so happy to have helped so many bunnies find companionship this year and look forward to helping even more in 2026!

Boots – A Life Worth Fighting For
BFFR’s most senior foster, Boots, almost 17 years young, had a big spa day today. A haircut, a warm bath, and a gentle full-body massage. Moments like these remind us just how far this beautiful boy has come and how much he has endured.

For the past few months, we’ve been carefully clipping Boots underneath to keep him comfortable and make grooming easier. With summer finally bringing warmer days, we decided it was the perfect time to give him a full lion cut, allowing him to enjoy a lovely warm bath and some much deserved TLC.

Boots was an absolute angel throughout it all. But as we gently clipped away years of long fur, our hearts broke. Beneath it were countless scars 💔 silent reminders of a life spent abandoned on the streets, injuries left untreated, and years without safety, comfort, or love.

Boots found himself the kill list of a rural pound. Saying yes to Boots meant committing to everything that comes with caring for an elderly cat and we would make that choice again in a heartbeat.

Today, Boots is thriving in foster care, safe, loved, and finally knowing kindness in his golden years. Helping our senior fur friends isn’t easy, especially for a small rescue like BFFR.

Boots needs:
đŸŸ A special age appropriate diet for arthritic joints and a sensitive tummy
đŸŸ Arthritis injections and joint supplements
đŸŸ Regular senior wellness blood tests
đŸŸ And a dental procedure in the new year, quoted between $449 – $1,019

As we continue searching for Boots’ forever home in the new year, we are reaching out to our community for help.
We are seeking sponsors who would be willing to set up a regular donation to support Boots’ ongoing care and ensure all of his medical and nutritional needs are met.

Boots survived years on the streets. He survived the pound. Now, he deserves comfort, dignity, and love for the rest of his life. If you’re able to help even in a small way you’ll be directly changing the world for one very special old man.

Hoppy weekend everybun! We hope you enjoy watching these adorable fluffballs kick off their morning with zoomies, snuggles, and some seriously cute nose cleaning đŸ„°

Every happy hop is a reminder of how much love and support foster carers give all year long. This December, consider fostering or sharing a local rescue’s posts to help reach those who can!

A little support can make a big difference.

Hoppy holidays from all our rescue fur friends!

On Monday this foster family grew by seven more. Seven tiny, fragile buns who didn’t ask to be born into uncertainty.

In just five weeks, two unvetworked rabbits sold to a family turned into thirteen. Thirteen vulnerable lives now needing vaccinations, microchips, desexing, and eventually, loving forever homes.

Thankfully, because of incredible teamwork between rescues, Dad bun was desexed within days of arriving into care. And when the time comes, every one of the remaining twelve will receive the full veterinary care they need and deserve.

The truth is, this is a massive financial undertaking, far more than BFFR could take on alone. But my heart wouldn’t let me walk away. These rabbits deserve a safe start and a responsible future.

That’s why I am so deeply grateful for the kindness and support of Forever Friends Animal Rescue who have stepped up to help by covering all veterinary expenses for this beautiful family and will help secure fosters and forever homes when the time comes. Their compassion is the reason this story can have a hopeful ending.

Right now, I have 20 rabbits in my care here at BFFR HQ, with two more arriving tomorrow for their desexing and recovery before they will return back to their foster home in a weeks time.

The emotional, physical and financial pressures of rescue are heavy but every life saved reminds me why rescue work truly matters. When animals are failed, rescues are the ones who pick up the pieces. And rescues can’t do it alone.

Please support your local rescues.
Adopt. Foster. Donate. Share.
Every action matters. Every voice helps.
And together, we can continue to give these animals the futures they deserve.

Some animals come into our lives and leave an extra special paw print in our hearts, Minka is one of those animals. That’s why it's so hard to believe that Minka has been in care for 1,038 days
and in all that time, she hasn’t had a single meet and greet.

Every day with her has felt like a gift. Minka is honestly one of the sweetest, most gentle natured cats I’ve fostered in all my years of rescue. She brings so much joy with her soft purrs, her little snores, her unique and quirky meows as she chats to you for more pats, the quiet beautiful confidence she’s gained, all the heart warming victories that as her long-term foster carer we get to witness. Watching her grow into herself has been one of the most rewarding experiences and we feel blessed to be the people who get to remind her daily just how special she is, how safe she is, and how loved she is.

And even though it breaks our hearts to think about saying goodbye someday, we know there’s someone out there who is meant to be her forever person. Someone special who will love her just as deeply as we do. We hold onto that hope for her every single day.

Long-term fostering isn’t always easy, but it’s one of the most beautiful parts of rescue work. It means showing up for animals who need time
 sometimes months, sometimes years
before they’re ready, or before the right person finds them. And we wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Thank you to everyone who supports animals like Minka, and to our incredible foster families who open their homes and their hearts for as long as it takes. Because of you, so many special animals like Minka get the chance to become the best version of themselves.

The Dylan update that we've all been hoping for!! Thanks to the support of your donations and the amazing team at The Avenue Veterinary clinic Dylan is finally showing major improvements and has passed multiple healthy stools each day! He is still on a cocktail of medications to assist his bowels and things could easily change again so we need to continue monitoring him closely.

For now we are just so happy that he is doing well and love seeing him enjoying the warm sun coming through the windows from his favourite bed.

Thank you again to all those who helped Dylan with his veterinary expenses, you were all our heroes as I couldn't have done this without your kindness.

Rescues don’t ‘find’ babies. They inherit the consequences of what happens when rabbits are bought on impulse or from backyard breeders who don’t educate or care where they end up. Most people see the cute
we see the aftermath. Families overwhelmed and so many innocent animals being abandoned.

If you love animals, please stop supporting backyard breeders. Adopt from rescues, donate, foster, and help us break this endless cycle. These seven lives deserve a better start.”
