💜New Arrival💜

Meet Mantis! This little girl was an unplanned new intake on Monday afternoon. I was at the vet clinic with our two seniors and I was asked by staff if I was in a position to take her into care as she had been found on her own, terrified and infested in fleas. Shes the same age as baby Starlord so I said yes as I knew they would both be happier with each others company.

The newest additions to the BFFR
family are settling in nicely.

These seniors were rescued last week and become quick quarantine buddies.

Both are now eating well after receiving pain management and antibiotics.

We still have concerns for Sunshine's liver health and her mouth sores, and both cats will need extensive dental work before they are ready for adoption.

Can you help these old souls?
I know times are hard, but without the help of our community, we can not take on cases like this.

🥾Boots, the new keeper of my heart🥾

This spunky senior was once someone's fur friend, but at 13 years old, he was found living life on the streets. His fur mattered, covered in wounds & so skinny. This once loved boy was left unclaimed at the pound for 3.5 weeks. He was so scared and shut down that staff were concerned about his mental welfare if he didn't get transferred out to rescue as Boots really wasn't coping in the shelter environment.

I received an email explaining Boots need for help & then a phone call from pound staff calling everyone they could to try find Boots a lifeline. I knew I had to say yes & I'm so thankful I did. It took multiple kind people to transport from him Ballarat & when he finally stepped out of his carrier into the crate I had set up nicely for him, my heart instantly felt so much love.

For the first few days Boots hid in the corner behind his warm bed not wanting to come out to eat. He would accept my pats & would instantly melt into my hand but as soon as I stopped he went back to hiding in a small shut down ball.

It's now day five of getting to know this handsome gentleman & I have only fallen more in love with him each day. Boots is now eating like a champion! He is such a smoochy sweetheart & will even lay on his back for lots of belly rubs. Boots is heading to the vet today for an antibiotic injection as one of his wounds still isn't healing. The vet will also organise a quote as he will need a senior blood test so that we can make sure he is well enough to go under anaesthetic for a much needed dental, which I can only imagine will be his first ever given the horrible state of his teeth.

☀️Sunshine Update☀️
Yesterday morning, I rushed 10 year old Sunshine to the vet as I was concerned that she looked to be in a lot of pain. I believe there is something going on with her mouth or jaw that is causing her alot of discomfort and although her teeth are terrible and she definitely needs a dental, the vet couldn't see anything that he believes would be causing her that amount of pain. I had to follow my gut instinct and requested that he still give her a pain relief injection, which thankfully he did, along with an anti nausea injection incase that was a factor in her not wanting to eat. Sunshine had not wanted to eat on her own for the 14 or so days she was at the pound and finally last night and this morning she has finally started eating little amounts on her own.

She's off to the vet this afternoon so that our regular vets can do a full assessment and come up with a plan to make sure she is as comfortable as possible to support her to continue to eat on her own. Her blood results came back on Friday showing some concerns with her liver so she's currently on antibiotics and we will need to re do her bloods once she is finished her course to see if there's any improvements to her liver. If not the next step with be an ultrasound of her liver. We will also be getting a quote today for potential dental xrays so that we can make a plan for her dental surgery for when our vet feels she is stable enough for that to go ahead.

As you can imagine Sunshine's veterinary care is taking a big financial strain on me right now and although I hate having to adk for help I'm definitely in need of the communities support with donations towards her care.

Good morning from the newest arrivals! These gorgeous seniors were saved from the pound on Wednesday and are both so smoochy. I have let Sunshine and Boots meet this morning to see if they get along. I'm hoping that they can help each other to settle into their quarantine room together because as you can imagine they have already been through so much over the last months after ending up at the pound.

We are still waiting for Sunshine's biopsy results but her other tests came back yesterday showing some concerns with her liver so we are going to have to retest her bloods to see if her liver values improve once we get her eating well as she's still not eating on her own.

Boot's is aged at 13 and is also going to need a full wellness check including bloods and urine so that we can determine if it's safe to put him under anaesthetic for a much needed dental once he has had time to settle in and gain weight as he is very skinny for his size.

Taking in two seniors that both require extensive of veterinary care is a big responsibility for a mostly self funded rescue so I'm hoping to continue to get the support of donations for these two so that it doesn't put too much strain on me financially as there are so many other animals needing our help too. If you can help with any amount, it all goes to helping us keep our doors open to others in need.

Good morning, here's a Clinky update for you all. She is such a sweetheart and she's loved hanging out with me in the quarantine room this morning. I wasn't connecting her with the name Clinky so I have renamed her Sunshine which I think suits her and sounds much less harsh when chatting or singing away to her 😅

I'm still waiting for her test results and I have received more donations to pay off more of her bill from yesterday so thank you so much to all those who have assisted with a donation 😊 Miss Sunshine is so lucky to have so many people to look out for her.

💜New Arrival💜

If you've viewed our story on Instagram then you would have seen that 13 year old Boots is going to be needing a foster home shortly. He is such a big smooch and was definitely once someone's loved pet.

Boots was one of two senior cats that we have taken in this afternoon from Ballarat pound. This big handsome man is settling in now with us because of the amazing volunteers today and to the staff at Ballarat Pound and Berwick Clyde Vet.

Thanks to this pawsome community they are both safe, warm and snuggled up in comfortable fluffy beds in quarantine while we get them ready for foster homes.

Boots and Clinky will be needing foster/forever homes once we get them stable and in better health as they are both needing a lot of extra care right now which is why the pound staff reached out to me for help.

Thanks to a wonderful team of kind hearted people Clinky made it to our vet today and she will shortly head home with me while we wait for her test results to come back from the lab.

Clinky hasn't been eating on her own so she will need around the clock care until she's feeling safe enough to eat on her own.

I ended up taking in another senior kitty today too as I knew he needed someone with my level of experience to help him settle into foster care.

With extra vet bills and more mouths to feed I need the help.of our online community to pay for Clinky's first vet visit which I can only imagine will be getting close to the $800 mark with extra tests and medications being needed.

Updated to say this is now sorted and thanks to many kind people we have organised not one but two seniors to come into foster care.

BFFR are in desperate need of help to get this poor senior girl from Ballarat pound where she was surrendered to our vet clinic in Berwick for a 2:30pm appointment tomorrow.

Clinky was surrendered to the pound at 10 years of age by her owner and she's so lost and confused that she hadn't been eating or going to the toilet in over a week. Clinky needs our support, but I can not do this all by myself. I'm in need of a kind soul to transport her to the vet so that we can do a full seniors wellness check including bloods and urine and to have the large growth on her top lip assessed.

If you can help with transport or a donation towards her veterinary care, any support for this sweet lost lady would be greatly appreciated. Her first vet visit has been quoted between $400-$500.

Starlord was such a cutie for the vet today and staff couldn't believe how happy he is given all that he has gone through to be with us today. His xrays show that he does have some p**p waiting for him to pass but I was so happy to hear that it's all looking ok at this stage.

I have peace of mind that we are doing absolutely everything we can to support Starlord as his tiny body catches up on lots of growing after such a rough first 4 weeks of life. I am so extremely grateful to those who donated towards his xrays as I was able to cover 90% of his bill with your kind donations.

The emails and requests for help just keep coming in and I am finding it so hard to turn away from those in need because of lack of financial support. I hate asking for help, but I can not hold them all up on my own!!

There is young, there is seniors, cats, rabbits, mice, guinea pigs, dogs and more... 💔.... I know I can't ever save them all but atleast I can share in hopes they reach the right person. All these faces and more need us to do better for them. They deserve to be part of a family not in horrible situations, leaving them sick and afraid or very likely euthanized.

We need to stop the negativity and work together to make positive progress in helping those in need of our help. These are only some of the ones I got asked to help today. I couldn't dare open all the emails to see every single one of them.

I can share two seniors that are needing rescue and a foster carer right now.

🐈‍⬛Gertrude is aged to be 10 years old and was handed into the vet as a stray. She is in need of a foster home that would be willing to attend vet appointments in the southeast as it will most likely be needed.

🐈‍⬛Boots is 13.3 years old and was also handed in as a stay. He is very stressed out, came in poor body condition and needs urgent rescue. Staff has said that he is a very nice cat- but not doing well in the shelter environment.

🌠Starlord update🌠
I have some good and not so good news to update you all on our smallest little foster. Starlord is stable and feeding well and loves his formula and has been introduced to small amounts of babycat kitten food this week. The not so good news is that he is still not toileting enough.

He is booked in with our vets tomorrow morning and will most likely be needing xrays so that we can better monitor what is going on in his digestive track. I am concerned about entering the weekend not knowing if he has dangerous amount of poo not moving through his system.

With a $200 vet bill yesterday and a $520 feed bill today I am in need of donations to cover Starlord's vet visit tomorrow as well as help with paying off some of our outstanding account with another lovely vet clinic that we are owing a significant amount to.

Bella is a young, inquisitive and delightful girl who loves to explore her surroundings, play with her toys and interact with you whenever she sees you.

Her favourite thing to do is telescoping as she feels it’s the best way to check everything out. She’s always on the move (except during her afternoon snooze time) and although she isn't as food driven as most buns, she still enjoys being hand fed a treat or two (or three).

We are wanting to help three shy 3 month old from the pound as they will sadly be euthanized tomorrow if they don't have a rescue to put a save on them. 🚕Transport Needed Melbourne🚖
These two girls need to get from Werribee to Frankston. Can you help get them to the safety of our friends at ?

These young girls are under 3 months old and were thoughtlessly left to fend for themselves once they no long served a purpose to the family who purchased them from a backyard breeder for a Easter photo shoot.

Thankfully a kind-hearted and responsible neighbour is keeping them safe for now but the girls need to get into rescue. Our awesome friends at Riseup have offered to take the girls in so that they won't be given away free on gumtree but will need help with getting the girls to Frankston.

We see situations like this all the time because of irresponsible backyard breeders selling extremely vulnerable animals to whoever will hand over some cash. They continue to show no care as to what the animals futures will be once they change ownership. They send them out unvaccinated, undesexed, no microchips and give no information to the new owners about responsible pet husbandry.

Please support rescues now more than ever and educate your wider community about why we need to do more to ensure we implement changes to our animal welfare system so that breeders are held accountable for the devastating amount of suffering thousands of animals go through because of their lack of duty of care towards those vulnerable lives they are breeding.
