Parvovirus Alert: 6 Cases in 3 Weeks in Seymour!
From one of our vets:
"Dear valued client,
We are emailing to notify you that we have seen a shocking amount of
parvovirus in Seymour in the last 3 weeks. At this point in time, we have
seen 6 cases in the last 3 weeks.
Parvovirus is a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus that
primarily affects puppies and unvaccinated dogs.
WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND GETTING ALL YOUR DOGS VACCINATED
AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Unvaccinated: is any animal that has never been vaccinated in their life
or their vaccination has lapsed.
Adult dogs should get vaccinations annually and puppies should get
vaccinations at 6 weeks, 10 weeks and 14 weeks of age. If any of these
are missed, the pet is defined as unvaccinated and is vulnerable to the
parvovirus.
All affected that we have seen in the last 3 weeks live in Seymour and
range from 14 weeks to 5 years old.
We have seen:
4 month old with no vaccination history
10 month old with no vaccination history
1 year old with no vaccination history
5 year old that only had some of their puppy vaccinations
14 weeks old that only had their 1 st vaccination at 6 weeks
1 year old with no vaccination history
WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND GETTING ALL YOUR DOGS VACCINATED
AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Parvovirus Symptoms to watch for:
Vomiting
Diarrhea (often bloody)
Lethargy
Loss of appetite
