Our premium bird chop contains more than 10 vegetables in each batch, in addition to healthy grains, seeds and legumes. It has no added preservatives, doesn’t need to be stored in the fridge and is freeze dried for maximum nutritional value.

Great for busy owners who don’t have time to make chop, fussy birds that don’t like defrosted chop, situations where you can’t make chop or bring chop frozen chop such as while you’re on holiday and emergencies. Variety is key! It is important to feed vegetables to your birds, but what is more important is that you offer a variety of vegetables. There is no “complete” diet for birds. We cannot expect to replicate the wild diets. Thus we should be offering a variety to cover all the bases.

Freeze drying is NOT the same as dehydrating. A lot of people who don’t have experience with freeze dried foods get these 2 confused.

What is the difference? The short answer is freeze-dried foods offer a longer shelf life (up to 25 years in the right conditions), lower moisture content, and generally taste better than dehydrated foods. They also retain up to 97% of the original nutritional value, whereas dehydrated foods lose more than 50% of their original nutrients. Freeze-dried foods also rehydrate faster and retain their original shape, texture, and color after rehydration.

Freeze drying is one of the best ways we have to preserve food without adding additives such as salt or preservatives.

All seed diets lead to disease. Birds should be fed “more than just seed”. In avian practice we commonly see malnutrition in companion birds leading to heart diseases, fatty lumps, cancers of the skin, respiratory disease, kidney disease, diabetes, obesity, liver disease and more. Birds should be fed a diet of a well balanced pellet in combination to a variety of fresh vegetables and some fruit. Seed and nuts should be reserved as treats.

Struggling to get your birds to eat chop? Our NEW PRODUCT sweet potato mash is for you. Ideal for those who are struggling to convert their birds from seed into chop and birds who already eat their vegetables but are sweet beaks. Mash comes in a powder form which you add water to, the end result should be a mashed potato like consistency. Mix in with their regular seed. Once they are eating mash, you can then transition onto our chop.

Fun fact of the day! Birds have a less developed sense of taste than humans. Birds have around 350 taste buds in comparison to around 9000 in humans. This in combination with other factors such as food availability, learning and digestive capabilities may be part of the reason why parrots tend to fixate on certain foods.

How to convert your birds onto chop. 1. Adding seed or their exisiting food to the chop. 2. Adding a vegetable or fruit that they love. 3. Adding flax seed meal or finely crushed nuts. 4. Reduce the amount of additives (seed, peas and corn, flaxseed meal/nuts) SLOWLY over a period or weeks to months, until they are eating just chop 5. PATIENCE. Conversion may happen in days, weeks, months or years. It’s not easy. But the health benefits will be worth it. Low Calorie Freeze Dried Bird Chop before & after 🤩 Freeze drying is a process which water in the form of ice under low pressure is removed from a material by sublimation. It usually takes about 20-40 hours depending on the water content of the food. It’s a great way to preserve the nutritional value of food whilst allowing it to be shelf stable for long term storage.
