🦄 STABLE UPDATE🦄
Angel - coming along nicely, much easier to handle in the ground & is being lunged daily, added the bungees to start developing some muscle 💪🏼 Soon to have shoes put on & then she’ll start going out with the big boys 😎
Japery - gave me a mild heart attack last week, after a trail ride & said trail ride not quite going to plan with a gallop involved, his previous tendon injury flared up but luckily no heat, no lameness just some swelling. Ice boots, & 30 minute walks, it is completely back to normal, however due to the scare he will be doing a full rehab workout regime & not starting this season to ensure that he is at peak health, fitness & strength.

🦄STABLE UPDATE🦄
Japery - brought back into fulltime work this week, mainly just focusing on his fitness because he currently looks like an elephant 🫣 but also a lot of lunging so I can physically see where he his weak, watch what muscles are working & what ones are lacking. Lunging is so great to get an overall look at your horse & see where they are lacking.
Angel - has also started lunging this week but more so free lunging & some join up & a lot of desensitising because she is a very untrusting & flighty filly.
Remember - your safety comes first.

Understanding your horse...🐴
Horse's have their own personalities and they range from plain and boring to quirky and mischievous.
Which mean's when it comes to training a horse you HAVE TO TAILOR TO THEIR NEEDS. Yes, you can have a foundation / outline of how you train however, to get the most out of your horse you have to understand THEM.
Horse's are incredible creatures and if you learn to listen, they will speak to you in volumes.

DID YOU KNOW? 🤔
A horse's optimum water temperature is between 7 -20 degrees Celsius.
It is important with the warmer weather we are checking to see if your horse is drinking enough water as it is VITAL for all bodily system functions. Also making sure the water is fresh and clean to encourage more frequent drinking.
No body likes dirty water🤢

⚠️ CAUTION WOUND PHOTOS⚠️
Update on Angel’s shoulder wound & it is looking beautiful!! 😍
When Angel first arrives the wound was extremely hot, swollen from her shoulder down to her knee & well, very gross.

🌟STABLE UPDATE 🌟
Not a whole lot has been happening around the stables this past week while Bree finishes up at Hewitt and Whitty & helping throughout the silly season at Patrick Payne Racing before she goes back fulltime mid January.
However, Japery has a fresh set of shoes, teeth done & loving his a couple of times a week while having some time off.
The Campdrafting events are being planned & booked in for February & March.
Angel’s shoulder is healing beautifully (will give a visual update soon) and having lots of handling time as she is still very unsure about the whole ordeal 😂

You can’t beat hacking out on a crisp winter’s day and there are so many benefits to escaping the arena a couple of times a week - it's good for you and your horse both mentally and physically. It is important though to make sure your hacking is valuable to your horse’s training and not just a...

Let's talk off the trackers! 😍
OTT's get a bit of a 50/50 reputation, you either love them or hate them.
Personally, I LOVE a good OTT and I believe that they have to be one of the most versatile breeds.
Every single horse I have had and competed on (besides maybe two) have been off the trackers that I have re-trained alongside Deb Pace. Mostly eventers and showjumpers however the odd occasion of a trail hack, pleasure horse and lesson horses BUT most recently a COW PONY! Yes, you heard right, my off the tracker is a camp drafter in the making and he absolutely loves it!

Acquiring knowledge and gaining experience are key to being a good horseman. Being able to help a horse overcome a problem and think your way through the situation gives you confidence. When you lack that knowledge and experience, it leads to frustration and getting nothing accomplished.

As most of us know horse's are herd animals.
So, what does this mean? Horse's feel safety in numbers. So when separated they can become easily stressed. Just because we have domesticated horses does not mean that they do not still have instincts of their ancestors.
Living within a herd environment gives horses much more benefits than we think, such as, running and playing as well as socially acceptable behaviors & so much more.

I am SO PROUD of this horse😭🩷 the last time I took him out in this very situation Japery grabbed the bit, locked his jaw and decided that it was a race track. With a few tweeks & more training he no longer feels the need to get strong & ‘bolt’. This horse makes me more & more proud every single day & I am over the moon at how he is improving with the limited time I have had to put into him.

What is my go-to feed?🤔
Calm Performer! 🐴💪
As a regular feed, Barastoc Calm Performer will provide your horse with the right amount of energy and nutrients for low to moderate activity levels, keeping them in peak form and encouraging a placid temperament.
Perfect for those off the trackers that need a nutritious feed without the added fizz!
