Most of all, thank you to Pippa. She has taught me so much, and has been the exact challenge I needed. For a long time, I wasn’t sure we’d make it to Equitana (actually up until the week before equitana). Her sensitivity was profound and complex, and I knew it would take time to build trust, confidence, and help her find balance in your body and mind.
The first 50 days were especially challenging, and progress came slowly. She has such a sweet sensitive heart and was extremely protective of herself and wouldn’t allow herself to be vulnurable. I had to be incredibly mindful of her needs, especially when the smaller, fearful responses were more concerning than the big ones. There were many moments when I questioned whether I should continue, having 150 days didn’t change my approach but I wondered if we’d even be walking around the property or exploring new areas, let alone floating, working through obstacles, riding, or stabling.
I knew we had to dig deep — both of us. We had to learn to trust each other, and we did. Through vulnerability, reflection, and admiration of one another, we found our way. What once seemed impossible became our reality. We built a partnership based on understanding, and now, she’s my best friend. The bond we share is something I never anticipated💕
Despite setbacks with physical discomfort and hoof issues leaving us only 20 rides under saddle before equitana, I’m so proud of how far we’ve come. This journey was about honouring where Pippa’s at, not about rushing her or meeting expectations. It’s about the subtleties of our communication….
I am so incredibly proud of you, Pippa. You’ve far exceeded any expectations and most of all I have loved seeing your flourish and gain skills you will have for life. Your kind, gracious heart is truly special, and I am so grateful to have met you.
