For example, if a dog has been scolded for chewing on a shoe in the past, they may avoid shoes altogether in the future, even if they are not the same shoes that they previously destroyed.
So while dogs may not experience guilt in the same way that humans do, they are highly attuned to our emotions and can display behavior that appears to be guilty. However, it is important for dog owners to understand that punishment or scolding after the fact is not an effective training method. Instead, positive reinforcement and consistent training are key to shaping a well-behaved dog.
