Hey 👋
We have a few special needs dogs on our books. Weather it's anxiety, reactive, skin conditions We cater for them all. This special little girl is totally blind due to a sudden medical condition. She is only new to this diagnosis so she has had to make some huge adjustments. Because we have groomed her for a long time we use the exact same equipment and routine every groom. I keep her little pink mat separated from every other mat so it only has her scent on it. We also use aromatherapy and music therapy during our grooms. We have found it to be very calming and the dogs & cats, Yes we do cats. They respond very well to it. We use 100% pet safe oils. I have just undertaken and completed Bowen and aromatherapy therapy for dogs ☺️🪷🐶

URGENT!
A lovely elderly client of mine has had a fall and is being flown to Adelaide. Is anyone able to look after her little dog Toby temporarily? She is very worried about him.
He's fully vaccinated, desexed,house trained, dog and cat friendly.

Thankyou all for the kind messages and words. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time. I know appointments have been rescheduled a lot due to Mum's surgery me with shingles and now Louise's passing. I'm trying to get myself together and push on but I'm really struggling.

This isn't right 😕

⚠️ After 45 years of being the Council Dog Pound, tomorrow July 1st 2023 will be the end of an era.

Both Councils elected not to renew our existing tripartite agreement and funding of $60K. This decision was made in private, behind closed doors without public consultation and with no invite to SEAWL.

This financial year SEAWL catered for 90 impounded dogs. 71 dogs from City and 19 from District. With many remaining unclaimed and being rehomed by us..some dogs taking many months to find a suitable home but that is what we do 🙂

Instead we were advised a Public Tender will be put out for Animal Pound & Rehoming Services. Currently available on SA Tenders website. It is with a heavy heart SEAWL advises we do not have the capacity to put in a tender for ALL animals as required eg dogs, cats (confinement laws will eventually be enforced by every SA Council and wandering cats will be impounded just like dogs in the near future), birds, pocket pets etc plus livestock (livestock going to the sale yards and not on site).

Certain specifications are questionable and for moral reasons we are unable to comply. Shelters are not dumping grounds and in the best interests of our volunteers we will not be dealing with deceased animals handed in to be disposed of or clearing our shelter to make room for new intakes. Passing our problem onto other rescues is not what we do. The entire state is at breaking point with unwanted dogs & cats..its just not viable to expect foster carer based rescues in SA to pick up the pieces from Council impounds without receiving any form of funding. Other shelters are at capacity and unable to take on anymore dogs and cats.

If we could say thank you a 1000 times to those who have adopted stray and unclaimed dogs from us in the past..it wouldn't be thanks enough. Council has advised us multiple times it does have other options available to rehome the dogs and for that we are happy with our decision.

We will still continue to operate as an adoption facility for dogs and cats. Owner surrenders for dogs and cats (stray and owned) are as per usual. Please help us keep the good fight for a little while longer ! All financial donations to SEAWL are tax deductible as we are Not For Profit 💙
