Christmas Food: Delicious for Us, Dangerous for Dogs!

Who else is dreaming of a table piled with ham, turkey, stuffing, gravy, and all the Christmas desserts like macadamia shortbread and fruit cake? Yum, right?!

But while we’re indulging, let’s keep in mind that many of these festive favourites can harm our dogs. Here’s what to watch out for:

- Ham & Turkey: Stick to the lean white turkey meat. The fatty skin, offcuts, and ham are far too rich and can trigger pancreatitis.

- Gravy: Tempting, but it’s best left to the humans—too fatty and rich for dogs.

- Stuffing: Most contain onions, which are toxic to dogs. Keep it out of reach!

- Cooked Bones: These can splinter and cause serious internal injuries.

- Christmas Cake & Mince Pies: They’re packed with raisins, sultanas, and currants (aka dried grapes), which can cause kidney failure in dogs.

- Macadamia Nuts & Chocolate: Whether separate or together, these are a no-go for dogs. Chocolate-coated treats or macadamia shortbread? Enjoy them yourself but keep them far away from your pup.

- Nutmeg: This sneaky Christmas spice is toxic to dogs, so be cautious.

- Xylitol: This artificial sweetener can be deadly, so avoid sharing anything containing it.

If your dog does eat something they shouldn’t:

- Assess the amount. A small nibble may just cause an upset tummy. In that case, apply diluted ZenGest or Tamer to their belly to help with digestion.

- For larger amounts or if you're unsure, contact your vet immediately. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

The good news? You CAN share some Christmas joy with your dog! Offer them a little lean meat and plain veggies—they’ll love being part of the celebration.

So, what’s your favourite Christmas treat? Share below! 🐾

Frankincense is renowned as one of the most prized and precious essential oils, the King of oils!

In addition to its notoriety in the New Testament, the Babylonians and Assyrians would burn Frankincense in religious ceremonies and the ancient Egyptians also used Frankincense resin for everything from perfume to salves for soothing skin. This centuries-old knowledge contributes to the modern uses of Frankincense today.

Traditionally used in Aromatherapy to:

🐾 reduce free radicals formed in the body (antioxidant).
🐾 help reduce/decrease free radical damage to body cells.
🐾 decrease/relieve skin dryness.
🐾 calm the mind.
🐾 reduce/relieve symptoms of mild anxiety.
🐾 soothe/calm nerves.
🐾 relax the nervous system.
🐾 decrease/relieve feelings of stress.
🐾 reduce/relieve bronchial mucous.
🐾 reduce/relieve common cold duration.
🐾 decrease/relieve mild upper respiratory tract congestion.
🐾 clear respiratory tract mucous (expectorant).
🐾 decrease/reduce/relieve cough.

Frankincense is also TGA approved!

And best of all, your dog's can get all the benefits too!

I use Frankincense every day in my dogs food to help support them from the inside.

I use it in most of my blends, whether they are for skin support, muscular support, joint support, respiratory support, brain support... Everything!

Frankincense is amazing in that it benefits and supports every system in the body!

It also enhances the benefits of other oils used with it, making it even more amazing.

If you only have one essential oil in your home, make sure it's frankincense. It's versatility is second to none!

Best of all...you can get Frankincense FREE this month with qualifying orders! How awesome is that?! Message me for more info! 😃

5 Natural Ways to Help Prevent Fleas and Ticks on Your Dog

Keeping your dog safe from fleas and ticks doesn't have to mean exposing them to harsh chemicals. Here are five natural alternatives to help protect your dog from these pesky parasites:

Essential Oils for Repelling Fleas and Ticks
Oils like lavender, cedarwood, and geranium are great natural repellents. Use them in a DIY spray, or try my Outdoor Dog Blend – formulated to help keep fleas and ticks at bay while being safe for dogs.

Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse
Fleas dislike the acidity of apple cider vinegar. Mix equal parts vinegar and water, and use it as a rinse after your dog’s bath or spritz it lightly onto their coat before walks.

Regular Grooming and Bathing
Keeping your dog’s coat clean reduces their appeal to fleas and ticks. Use a low-tox, dog-safe shampoo that won’t add to their toxic load. Add a drop of cedarwood or peppermint essential oil to the shampoo for extra protection.

Yard Maintenance
Fleas and ticks thrive in overgrown grass and piles of leaves. Keep your yard tidy, mow the lawn, and clear debris to make it less inviting for pests.

Diet and Gut Health
A healthy immune system can make your dog less attractive to parasites. Add foods like garlic (in small, dog-safe amounts), probiotics, or supplements rich in B vitamins to your dog’s diet to support their overall health.

By choosing natural alternatives, you’re not only keeping fleas and ticks off your dog but also protecting their long-term health.

If you’d like to know more about my Outdoor Dog Blend or need help getting started with natural flea and tick prevention, send me a message!

I get asked all the time: Where should I apply essential oils on my dog? 🐶

The answer? It depends!

For best results, apply diluted essential oils directly to the area of concern. Whether it’s dry skin, sore muscles, or an upset tummy, targeting the problem area works wonders.

But what about issues that aren’t so straightforward? 🤔
In those cases, applying diluted oils to the spine, ear tips, or between the paw pads can be incredibly effective—especially for emotional support like calming, or when you’re unsure where the issue lies.

Places to avoid?

The eyes and nose

Inside ear canals

Ge****ls

These areas are super sensitive and should never come into contact with essential oils.

Always dilute! Essential oils must be diluted in a carrier oil before applying to your dog. Never use them neat.

And finally, skip using Tea Tree, Wintergreen, and Birch topically on dogs—better safe than sorry.

Got questions? Drop them below! And don’t forget to save this post for easy reference later. 🐾

Did you know that when you apply essential oils topically—directly onto the skin—they can impact every cell in the body?

Here’s why: essential oil molecules are tiny enough to absorb through the skin and enter the bloodstream, where they travel throughout the body. This means that no matter where you apply the oils, they can reach the areas that need support most.

What’s even more incredible? Essential oils are one of the few natural substances that can cross the blood-brain barrier, supporting the central nervous system. This barrier is super selective, only letting through compounds vital to brain function.

Essential oils help bring the body back to its natural balance, known as homeostasis. That’s why a single oil can address seemingly opposite issues—like soothing both constipation and diarrhoea. Amazing, right?

So, when you use essential oils topically, they’re not just supporting the skin—they’re working on every system in the body. Plus, you get the added bonus of inhaling their aroma while they’re on the skin. It’s a win-win!

This applies to both dogs and their humans. But remember: dilute, dilute, dilute! Proper dilution not only reduces the chance of skin sensitivities but also helps the oils absorb more effectively.

Essential oils truly are nature’s gift to wellness!

🐾 Tired of that endless mozzie buzz and those itchy bites? Well, say goodbye to the pests and hello to a natural, mozzie-free zone! 🦟🚫

Mosquito bites aren’t just annoying—they can actually put your dog at risk for diseases like heartworm. The best defence? Keep those mozzies away from the start!

I’ve got a natural trick up my sleeve that keeps the bugs at bay *and* is gentle on your pup. Meet Lemon Eucalyptus, the ultimate mozzie-repellent essential oil! Research even shows it's more effective than DEET, which means those mozzies don’t stand a chance.

Here’s how to whip up your own mozzie-fighting spray:
- Mix 2ml of Neem oil and 40 drops of Lemon Eucalyptus.
- Fill the rest of a 100ml spray bottle with fractionated coconut oil.

This mix smells like a summer breeze and gives mozzies the boot! Sure, it needs reapplying a little more often than chemical sprays, but it’s worth it for a toxin-free, fresh-smelling pup. 🌬️🐶

No Lemon Eucalyptus? No problem! Citronella, Geranium, Lavender—mix and match to find your favourite combo and keep the bugs at bay. And don’t forget, you can diffuse these oils around your home for extra mozzie protection indoors. 🏡

So, here’s to a mozzie-free summer! Save this post for later, and let me know if you try it out—I’d love to hear how it goes! 🐾🐾

⚠️ Heat Warning for Dog Owners: Keep Your Dogs Safe and Cool Today! 🌞

Hot days can be deadly for dogs if we’re not careful! Unlike us, they can’t sweat to cool down, and with that glorious fur, they’re more at risk for heatstroke. Remember, a few minutes too long in the heat can be dangerous – or worse.

Here are my top 5 tips to keep your dogs cool, comfy, and safe:

1. Limit Exercise & Walks: Skip the midday walks, and head out early in the morning or late in the evening. Stick to shady routes and take water breaks every few minutes.

2. Cool Water Always Available: Fresh, cold water should be within reach at all times. Toss in a few ice cubes to keep it cooler for longer, and keep a bowl outdoors if your dog’s spending time in the backyard.

3. Chill Out Indoors: If possible, bring your dog indoors during the hottest hours of the day. Fans or air conditioning work wonders, and a cool spot on the tile floor can be heaven for them.

4. Get Creative with Cool Treats: Frozen treats, like ice cubes with a treat inside or frozen broth cubes, are great ways to keep dogs entertained and cool.

5. Never Leave Your Dog in a Car: Even a few minutes in a parked car can be deadly. If you need to run errands, leave your dog at home in the cool, safe indoors.

🔥 Be heatwise today and let’s keep our dogs safe and happy. Give these tips a try and share with other dog lovers who need the reminder!

DIY Natural Dog Toothpaste Recipe 🐾

Why make your own?

So you know exactly what goes into it! Many store bought dog toothpastes contain undesirable and unnecessary ingredients.

Why use essential oils?

Because they have been shown to be great for oral health!

Myrrh essential oil kills harmful bacteria as well as stimulating the immune system to make more white blood cells, which also kill bacteria.

Studies show it may also help gingivitis, which is inflammation of the gums around the teeth due to plaque.

Myrrh contains compounds that interact with opioid receptors and tell the brain its not in pain, while also blocking the production of inflammatory chemicals that can lead to pain and swelling, making it a great anti-inflammatory and pain reliever too!

Spearmint essential oil has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that help kill bacteria in the mouth that causes bad breath as well as soothing the mouth tissue.

And Coconut oil also has its own benefits! It is antimicrobial and also helps reduce plaque adherence! Bonus!

As you can see, this DIY toothpaste recipe has been crafted with research, care and consideration and has the lick of approval from my dogs!

Why not give it a try!

Want to try it but need some quality essential oils you can trust are safe for your dog? Message me and I'll help you out! 🐾🐾
