✨ What I Wish I Knew Then ✨
I used to believe I was keeping my dogs 'safe'. I gave them Nexgard every month without a second thought. I trusted it. I thought I was doing the right thing.
Until Rain. 💔
A few days after her monthly dose, I found my sweet 2-year-old girl outside, walking in circles in the rain, staring up at the sky. That was so unlike her — Ridgies hate the rain — and something in my gut told me something was very wrong.
I brought her inside. She was unsteady on her feet, head pressing into any wall she could find. I rang the vet, terrified. Before we even made it to the car, Rain had her first seizure.
That day began an 8-month nightmare. Multiple tests. Medications. Diet changes. Everything we could possibly try. But the seizures kept coming. My once-healthy, vibrant show dog slowly faded before my eyes.
Just after her 3rd birthday, I had to say goodbye. The vet told me the neurological and liver damage caused by the flea and tick tablet was too much for her young body to handle.
I was shattered. I’d given her something I thought was protecting her — and it ended up being the very thing that took her from me.
Since then, I’ve vowed never to use these toxic preventatives again. My dogs are still safe and protected — but now, I use my natural essential oil spray.
People think it won’t happen to their dog, especially if they’ve been using these products for years without issue. I used to think the same. But it’s like playing Russian roulette… you never know if the next tablet will be “the one.”
I share Rain’s story because I don’t want anyone else to go through what we did.
Please, do your research. Make informed choices. Protect your dogs — safely. ❤️
