It’s been very quiet here with me being pregnant but as with any one with horses knows it’s never quiet for long…

This poor girl got caught up in a fence on Wednesday late afternoon (plastic fencing luckily but wrapped around her hind leg - no idea how she did it), she stood still while we cut her out but she was very stressed about it all after the fact with a bit of colic so out came the vet…
She has got to be one of the best behaved yearlings we have ever had, under lights in front of the shed, away from all the other horses in the stables she stood perfectly for the vet, not a single flinch with the IV, injury clipped up and compression bandage on.
She repeated her good behaviour yesterday when at 28 weeks pregnant and huge I needed to re-bandage, awkwardly bent down and slow she was a trooper for me.

Did I mention she also has jump lines in her ASH breeding…

MY MACEY ACE at Eastern Downs Branch of the Australian Stock Horse Society Stockman’s Challenge - from hack diva to cow pony this mare did everything I asked at this show and more, coming home with 4th Overall was just the cherry on the top! 🍒

It was the first competition we had to cut out a cow in the camp and with sticky cattle but once I had one cut out I trusted this little mare doesn’t like one to beat her in the camp and she did her job amazingly! She keeps us classy when chasing a cow, cool as a cucumber as soon as she is out of that camp (her rider not so much)🐮

My Macey Ace finished the year with a bang coming 4th overall in the Eastern Downs ASH open breeds Stockman’s Challenge in the Encouragement out of 48 starters! 4 years of me trying to figure out this new discipline (and Macey!) finally paying off 💛 (81 Dry 4th, 80 Wet =10th)

When your neighbour has a jump course…in a stock saddle and all! Over two years since I been over a jump but showing why he is the breed for every need (including the bush ride to get to the arena). Lots of fun, might need to dust off the jump saddle, thanks Jess!

Had a great day at Leichhardt Branch ASHS Stockman’s Challenge with My Macey Ace!
First challenge with cattle and only my second competition start with cattle…
After a bit of a rocky start in the encouragement cattle section, Macey scored a 22 in the cut out in the open cattle section, just need to take the break off some more when out of the camp with a 41 outside to improve on for next time!

Finally get more time to ride with the house now built and fencing slowed down a bit (still plenty more work on to do!)

The rising 4 year olds play a game I like to call ”the campdraft game” - one takes off and the other runs the other down coming up on their outside bending them off the fence until they finally slide stop into the corner of the paddock change directions and do it all again!
This is truely horrifying as their owner as they hit full speed and they play hard (please no vet bills!) but I’m also at awe of their power and ability!
What I have learnt -
Viewhill Balboa (HSH) can run anything down with his enormous stride (he is 16.2) if he puts his mind to it! When the mind is engaged the stability is there on those long legs!
Hard Hat Monica (QHxTB) is very very quick into fast (although Bowie can wrap her up still which is saying something!) and has a huge sliding stop from speed!
Look at their innocent faces! 🙃

When young horse Money doesn’t even flinch when some welding repairs are happening to her stable - construction is a common thing around here at the moment!

Also setting up for the shorter winter days - eventually will get some permanent lights but this will do for now!

2023 is going to be all about having fun with my horses!

No matter what type of event whether that be ASH showing, challenge, dressage, obstacles, showing or just a fun day, I’ve got a team of horses that could give anything a go…

Stage 1 of this idea was to get back into my Dressage saddle after many years, admittedly not that long out of the jump saddle (2021).
Ironic that it took a while to adjust to a fender and stock saddle in 2018 when I changed disciplines but now the English saddles are foreign lol 😂

Now to put some miles (when not too hot) on my team of three and build my own riding fitness, having some fun no matter what the saddle 🐎

First ride for 2023 done, and Bowie is looking the goods, hopefully a sign he is starting to fill out. Approaching 16.2 let’s hope we aren’t getting any taller, he would of fit in with my warmbloods

As much as I love the convenience of my day yards, horses need their paddock time to be horses and I’ve got three happy ones! 🥰

Enjoyed the weekend at the Dalby sale, haven’t been since I was a kid but been watching online for a couple of years since I moved from Showjumping back to Stockhorses. I wasn’t there to buy but definitely some nice horses that were very tempting!

We all lack some motivation from time to time (particularly in Summer for me!) but I love going to these events to feel all inspired all over again with the sport I love 💕

As soon as I got home I jumped on my Viewhill Balboa, and had a great ride!

It’s always great to remind yourself that this isn’t an easy sport (or cheap!) but geez it can give you some great feelings when you jump on a good one that you have spent time improving under saddle.

Weeronga ASH is so lucky to have a very special Doongara Manpower 3 year old gelding, a temperament to die for Hard Hat Henry 3 year old filly and a cow pony who can turn show pony in 7 year old Marnies Ace mare, My Macey Ace.

It’s been hard getting them ready to go somewhere when we are developing our property but I’m looking forward to seeing where they are all at, by the end of summer with more hours in the saddle 💛

Hard Hat Monica aka Money, this mare is showing some real type at 3 years. I think she might be able to do some English and cow horse and excel in both (she loves to free jump). Just needs 6 months riding through the bush until she is strong enough for some arena work. Excited but to see her challenge! 🥰
