Chilling out with D***y Hopey ❤️
My dream is to breed and train genuine Waler horses so that other people can own their once-in-a-lif
Chilling out with D***y Hopey ❤️
The King is not impressed... Apparently it is most exhausting keeping the young whipper-snapper entertained.
Poor old Super Trooper!
Yearling c**t, Flinders, thinks hoof trimming day is the best day everrrrrr.
What do you mean I get attention, snacks, pats AND I get to steal all your tools when you're not looking?
He's totally unflappable... He knocked a pile of pots over on top of the tool tray while I was trimming his back hooves and the little ratbag didn't even flinch. 🤣
Wedgetail Equine are offering an incredible opportunity for a special person on the lookout for an amazing Waler stallion!
Freddie was sired by NP Fonzarelli before Fonzi came to me, and I have to say, Freddie is the full package. Temperament, talent and stunning good looks!
If it wasn't the wrong timing for me, I'd definitely be looking at taking him on.
I'd love to see him in a great Waler home, so definitely get in touch with his breeder if you think you can offer him an incredible future!
D***y and Iola are having a "town" weekend this weekend, 'cos I decided the weather looked too gross up the mountains to bother taking a green horse along.
So instead of beautiful long bush rides, the girls are getting used to what happens in town, and are lucky enough to visit a friend's house each day to use her lovely riding facilities!
Lots of short, positive float trips as well for the girls, which is fantastic practice for them both (as they both had a "no" moment when we went to load up on Thursday night).
Love these two gorgeous mares!
The moment when you remember you haven't actually saddlebag broken your youngster yet and you're going adventuring in two days time... Lucky for me, I don't think Iola is at all concerned! 🤣
Forever Iola ❤️

1st Led Versatile Waler
Iola didn't feel quite ready to tackle the Versatile Waler course under saddle this year, but did a super job in hand!
I'd rather go steady and only ask her to do things she's ready and willing to do at this point in her ridden career- I plan to be riding her for the next 20 years, so there's zero rush!

Forever Iola being an absolute darling in her ridden classes.
Such a great effort for a green horse not long back into work after 6 weeks off with a massive hoof abscess! I couldn't possibly be any prouder of my baby grey.
For those asking, she is by NP Fonzarelli out of Tinderry Hecate, so a fabulous mix of some of the oldest original Waler lines (37.5% Jinka, 25% Mt Riddock, 25% Garden and 12.5% Cordillo or Garden).

Well... At least one of us trots up sound and looks good doing it. Hint- it's not the human. 🤣

Forever Iola having a red hot go at the Freestyle Liberty class, sponsored by Tidball Accountancy Pty Ltd. She did super! Instant halt and face up when I called "whoa" and held up my hand. So proud of her!

Forever Iola and Forever Fantasy... Waler mares for the win!!

2023 NSW State Waler Championships, done and dusted! What a weekend!
Huge thanks to our wonderful judge, volunteers, committee, Young Pony Club crew, and our sponsors- We couldn't have done it without you!
Forever Iola was an absolute gem, I couldn't possibly be any happier with her.
She won lots of pretty ribbons, with highlights including-
1st Best Presented Senior Waler
1st Adult Handler
1st Freestyle Liberty (sponsored by Tidball Accountancy)
1st Led Versatile Waler
1st Ridden Waler Mare
Champion Ridden Waler
And more!
I was lucky enough to have my awesome sister in law, Alica, come along too this year, competing her Waler mare, Forever Fantasy (my first born Waler foal).
Alicia and Fancy were the epitome of versatility over the weekend, and I couldn't possibly be any prouder of them!
They took home a massive haul of ribbons, including Champion Rider, High Point Adult Handler and High Point Senior Waler.
Poor Iola is learning what happens to grey ponies on show day... Allllllll the scrubbing and rugging!!
She's a good baby pony. 💜
Catch you later, most gorgeous Little Red Mare!
She's all settled in at the depot before today's heat hits, then the rest of the week should be much cooler and smooth travelling.
So bloody hard leaving her there, but she has the most incredible home waiting for her at the end of the week. ❤️
Cos all girls need roadtrip snacks!
My last ride on Tonksy Pony!
What a perfect, perfect day.
Thanks so much Brydie Wigg for abandoning show prep to come along and keep us company!
Off up to Canberra early tomorrow morning to beat the heat, where we'll say goodbye for now.
Hopefully we'll manage to drop in and visit when we're in WA in a few months time!
My happy place 💜
Gotta love a self-parking pony!
Idiot owner over here realised she hadn't tried Super Troopers old bridle on D***y Hopey yet (despite trying everything else in the shed and those bits that I could beg, borrow and steal from anybody and everybody), so tonight as a last ditch attempt before buying up half of the internet in bits, I chucked Troops bridle on...
And drumroll...
Trooper's old knock-off el cheapo version of the verbidend was perfect (even being a loose ring).
After a minute of adjustment, we had a very happy pony, with added benefit of clearer communication!
Who woulda thunk it?
What can I say apart from...
What. An. Idiot.
Pat the horse, slap the rider.
🤣
Tonksy Pony ❤️ Best Little Red Mare
Double trouble! We so rarely get photos together on the ponies, so we actually made an effort today! Brydie Wigg
Little Tonksy Pony ❤️
Going out with a bang... Last event together at Bemboka Show today. So proud of my little red mare!
I couldn't possibly be any happier with her, she was just delightful.
And yes, there were tears.
Hopefully she makes her new family as happy as she's made me!
Little Red Mare ❤️
Beautiful early morning beach ride with Tonksy Pony... Going to miss how easy life is with her when I'm back on youngsters again!
Last time checking out this particular view at Bemboka WEQ from behind these beautiful little red ears.
Tonksy Pony (Anzac Tonk) has been sold to the most fabulous home over in Western Australia! Her new owner is everything I had hoped to find for this very special little red mare. It will still be a bloody hard goodbye though!!
Tonksy will be making the week-long trip in a few weeks time when it is hopefully cooler, so we still have a little bit of time left together. ❤️
Check them out!!!!!
Fancy (Forever Fantasy) absolutely ROCKING her first ever trick show performance in front of a sold out crowd at Whittlesea Rodeo under the amazing training and care of Alicia Gersbach from R.A.C.E Entertainment
They did two performances, with the second being under lights, and she didn't bat at eyelid at any of the sights or sounds.
What an INCREDIBLE debut event... This dream team are going places!
So ridiculously proud of these two legends!!!!!!
D***y Hopey!!
First steps towards becoming a superstar WEQ pony, achieved. ❤️
She found the huge turnout of horses a bit mind-blowing, but by the time I actually had time to ride her, everything had settled down, she was in the groove of things, and she was actually really quite accepting of it all.
Bitless bridle again today, as that's how she's happy for now.
What a good girl for an oversized, half broken in Patchy Pony!
Having so much fun getting Hope ticking along under saddle again!
No major luck with bit trials yet, but we are narrowing it down... The bit criteria to avoid causing her facial nerves to misfire seems to be extra lightweight, with reduced tongue pressure, and no jingling. So far the PeeWee bit has been the most acceptable to madame (but not perfect due to jingle in the trot).
I've also managed to stabilise the bitless bridle somewhat better by threading the cheek piece through the ring, which is reducing her confusion.
In D***y-land, if we get confused, we stop, and we wait for the human to either modify the gear or explain it better. 🤣
She is ridiculously quiet and patient for a partially broken in pony who has done pretty much nothing in over two years!
She is so thrilled to be the current "chosen one", she's galloping up to be caught every afternoon when she sees me get home from work. ❤️
Big D***y Hopey!
Playing around trying to work out appropriate headwear for her ladyship... Unfortunately I suspect she's going to really struggle with bitting after her facial paralysis.
She was a thousand times happier in a rope halter, then a bitless bridle tonight, and we have a range of loaner bits coming our way soon (thanks to a couple of legendary friends) to see what speciality bits might manage to avoid irritating her nerve damage.
If no luck with her choosing a bit she likes, at least we have some bitless options to proceed with now.
She is the loveliest, quietest, kindest big doofy pony, with the most gigantic but gentle floaty trot, and I'm feeling so hopeful about her having a ridden career after all. ❤️
Ba****ck lazy weekend wanders on my dearest Little Red Mare ❤️
What an incredible few days up the mountains checking out Tom Groggin with some seriously awesome people... Had such a great time!
It was Baby Iola's first mountains trip and Auntie Tonksy did a fabulous job looking after her and teaching her the ways of a mountains pony.
Iola was quite certain it was an excellent idea to be a fire-breathing dragon and try to eat any other horse that dared to even breathe in her general direction, but by the end of the trip she was a very good girl!
By day three she was unflappably ponying Tonksy Pony (the great and almighty carrier of drink bottles and snacks), and feeling brave enough to cross some of the scarier mud, creek, and river crossings in the lead position (after baby Missy led the way most of the weekend 🤣).
No dramas with the multitude of 4WDers (gotta say, their road etiquette was next level amazing, bunch of legends!) and got comfy with massive herds of roos, some emus, lots of brumbies (polite ones this trip) and even a big deer.
So proud of my lovely mares! ❤️
Riverside campsite grazing for Tonksy and Iola up at Tom Groggin. Iola's first mountains trip! Auntie Tonksy showed her the ropes. They do love their snacks!
Vale NP Fonzarelli.
After a horrific fall galloping across the paddock, our beautiful, tough as nails Waler stallion, Fonzi is now at rest.
Such a huge loss for not only me, but the Waler world as a whole. Rest in peace old man.
Forever Never-Never/Nifty Nev, now known as Danny, having his first ride under saddle.
Mitch from TNR Equestrian broke in Iola for me, and you can see what a lovely job he is doing with Danny too.
So great to see him growing up so beautifully and doing well!
When your youngsters are so quiet that you can stand back and watch your non-horsey (though very in-tune) partner teaching them to float load within a 20min session. Guarantee little Flinny will be self loading tomorrow! 🤣
Gorgeous girls ❤️
Definitely wondering if I am totally and utterly mad to be letting her go, but... Here goes!
Anzac Tonk
14.3hh 11yo chestnut Newhaven-lines WHOBAA registered and WHSA foal recorded Waler mare.
By Newhaven Shy Red, out of Newhaven Arizona.
Fun, calm, sensible allrounder. Had a go at lots of things- showing, dressage, team sorting, some sporting, small jumps (rider is a chicken), trail rides, bush bashing, beach rides, ponying youngsters, leading kids around the yard, camping trips up the mountains (super brave and sensible even when brumbies come up close) and is competing very successfully in Working Equitation (currently Participant Preliminary) usually bringing home Champion, and placing 5th at State Championships.
She’s had one really lovely foal as a 6yo, and can be sold with a service to NP Fonzarelli (14.2hh grey Garden/Jinka lines Waler stallion) if desired.
She isn’t your stereotypical chestnut mare that riders fear- She’s a darling! Not marey, not matey. The sort of mare that if you do right by her, she’ll give you her all. Self-loads on the float. Easy to catch, lead, tie up, wash, handle hooves, drench, needle etc. Handles travelling away well. Respectful of electric tape yards at events.
Soft and responsive. Has attended classical dressage lessons. Forward, not hot. No need to kick her along, a light squeeze is all she needs. Not reactive to rider errors. She doesn’t need any artificial aids.
No dramas to take her for a hoon, then sit back, ask for a walk, then mosey along on a loose rein. Lines up to random objects to use as mounting blocks, totally unconcerned when her rider slides off down her tail. Spooks occasionally, nothing untoward. No silly business. Ride along the road, through small towns, in the bush, on the beach, or in an arena- with company or alone. Good with water crossings, dogs, obstacles etc.
Anxious but obedient (she tries so hard to be brave) in atmospheric indoors and at cattle events- limited experience- more exposure will help in this area.
Hop straight back on her after a spell, and she will be exactly the same to ride as when you turned her out.
She’s a real little lady, and loves being brushed and sweet-talked. Kept barefoot, wears ScootBoots on rough ground (didn’t need them at all last mountains trip). Super easy and pleasant to be around!
Only being sold to make way for my own homebred youngsters coming along under saddle- they’re never going to get the work they need to get as good as Tonksy if I don’t sell her, as she’s just too much fun to ride!
I think she would best suit a soft, kind intermediate level or better rider. She would tolerate a beginner under experienced supervision for occasional rides. I’d love to see her in a home where she is somebody’s number one, treated like a best friend as she deserves, cruising around and having a go at whatever fun things are happening at the time.
She will be available to try out after the 21st of November, and can be seen competing at the STACTWE WEQ Competition at Bungendore, NSW, on Sunday the 20th of November. She will not be sold sight unseen. Finding the right home is most important to me!

Forever Iola, my mini-Trooper-in-training... Oh she's such good fun!
She's developed beautifully after her spell, not such an awkward downhill wonky-donkey, haha.
So far she's proving to be an absolute gem to bring back in to work after a spell- testament to the fabulous start TNR Equestrian gave her I'm sure!
Gorgeous Daisy (Forever Everlasting) proudly showing off her haul of ribbons from the QLD Waler Championships!
In the led she received-
1st led filly under 4yrs
1st best behaved under 4yrs
Reserve Champion led youngstock
And in the riddens-
3rd full Waler mare under saddle
3rd ridden hunter under 15hh
3rd havin' a Waler of a time
She also received lots of lovely comments throughout the day.
What an amazing result for Daisy and Sienna at their first show together! ❤️

Because who doesn't love watching a Waler foal playing with a Willy Wagtail then going for a hoon? <3
Took Tonksy Pony out bush for a trail ride this morning with the dogs, Tucker and Tricksy... Second ride after a big spell, and yesterdays ride was very basic. Gosh she's a good pony! Seriously considered doing a Trooper and carrying Tricksy down the road from the saddle (Tucker is VERY well-trained in what he has to do to be allowed to come out riding along the road) but decided I'd best practice that one on her at home first! Was a good lesson for Tricksy anyway. I am so lucky with my wonderful Walers! <3
Keryn's big baby girl, Hope, went for another little adventure today, being ponied off Super Trooper (his second-most favourite job after chasing cattle)... She is ridiculously quiet and chilled out! So far she's coping brilliantly with opening and closing multiple gates, creek crossings, happy doggies, cows and calves, and loose horses coming over to say g'day. We had our second short ride in the round yard with a short trot this time! She's getting the idea about leg aids, and has brilliant brakes going on. Very happy with her!!
Clever little miss Poppy showing off her wonderful float loading this morning on her way to watch Uncle Trooper doing a riding lesson... She was such an angel! Couldn't be prouder of my little girl. <3
Fun day out starting Snowy Milton Keynes on some baby jumps! She is such a willing little mare- She just wants to please! <3
Happy hoony jumping pony! Trooper and I had an absolute ball yesterday having a crack at some jumping (in the dressage saddle, lol) before heading out on a beautiful beach ride with great company. He is an enthusiastic soul!
There's nothing worse than a horse that's difficult to float... It has to be my ultimate pet hate. Here at Forever Walers, we believe in making the floating a positive experience, right from the very start! This is Iola having her first ever floating lesson. Iola is a particularly chilled out individual with a very curious nature, so this isn't really as impressive as it looks! She and her friend have spent the night in the paddock with the float sitting open for them to have an explore if they so choose- when I came down to catch her, she was already standing inside the float having a great old time! To make things especially easy, I've backed the float up to a bank so the tail gate sits flat instead of them having to walk up a ramp. Obviously they won't always have that luxury- but for the first lesson or two, it's a nice way to help them build confidence. Before asking them to load, it is important that they understand how to walk backwards- nothing worse than successfully getting them on, only for them to get a fright getting off- instant negative experience. Before asking any horse to go all the way on, I'll always ask them to take one or two steps on, halt, stand calmly, then I'll ask them to back off, only increasing the distance as they are ready for it. Letting them have a few little successes, and receiving praise and being allowed to just stand and relax as a reward, is the biggest confidence builder I know. Every horse is different, and some horses need much longer than others. Anyway, here it is- Iola's first lesson, and her third (and final) approach for the session. I just love how calm she is despite her dam singing in the background!
My gorgeous animal-loving nephew, Alex, learning to brush Trooper like he does with his puppy dogs at home! Too damn beautiful! <3
Fancy-Pants having a hoon around the yard while the ever-patient Rommy eats her breakfast... Then marching herself up to the human to demand a scratch. Such a confident little lady!
