Storm season is upon us.
Animal Centred Education ACE freework was the only method I used to help Brodie the Golden Retriever feel comfortable during a recent storm. Previously, Brodie was a shivering and drooling mess during storms.

Does your dog find a Vet visit terrifying!
Poor Rosie did, but after a few Animal Centred Education FREEWORK sessions
she was so comfortable that after we stopped filming she took herself off to the Vet waiting room and fell asleep.

Welcoming my grandchildren into my world has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life.
However, it has not always been easy for Keetah.
She has struggled with the excitement that babies bring.
She has struggled with new smells, sights and sounds.
She has struggled with not being able to fully explore the babies close up.
She has struggled with having her routine completely destroyed.
She has struggled with not having as much of my attention as she is used to.
This year we have welcomed our beautiful little Charlotte. Unlike the other grandkids she lives on the other side of the country so her visits are longer, she stays in our home.
We set the visit up for as much success as possible.
My daughter sent us some clothes that smelled like Charlotte before they arrived.
This time Keetah was allowed a full sniff of the baby and that was all she needed.
So here we are 10 days into our visit and Keetah is so comfortable around Charlotte and it is a great introduction for Charlotte to dogs as well.
My grandkids are taught no touching dogs.
They are taught to wave hello to dogs, instead of approaching them.
They are taught to never go near Keetah while she is sleeping or eating.

Bonnie and Henry suffer from separation anxiety.
They are learning the Ready Game in FREEWORK.
This will give them a feeling of safety.
This will give them the ability to make their own choices.
This will help them self regulate.
This will help calm their general anxiety.
Eventually, Henry and Bonnie will be able to cope with their Mum leaving for work.

Yet Ellie was able to Not jump on visitors
Not bark at neighbours

Ellie usually shows her excitement when guests arrive by jumping on them.
Today we gave her Karl to play with and she took her excitement out on him instead of me.
The is from . We have seen time and time again that offering a stuffed, life like dog to real dogs helps them on an emotional level. Great for dogs in a single dog household.
Then Ellie had a lovely session and we addressed her barking at people passing by.
With some FREEWORK and her new friend Karl, Ellie was able to let 3 people pass without any barking. Her guardian was impressed by that but was blown away when Ellie just lay on her bed as the postman drove past. A first, never happened before.
All this with absolutely no training at all.
I help dogs by assessing their emotions, their breed specific needs and their environment.
No leash
No collar
No commands
No lures
No correcting
No reinforcement

Sassy second session.
This is how a puppy session should look.
ACE FREEWORK gives 9 week old Sassy the ability to explore her environment calmly.
No crazy puppy play.
No biting people and furniture.
No obedience training.
No learning commands.
No teaching how to sit or down or stay.
Sassy did learn toilet training
Sassy learned what her behaviours were called. We free shaped a sit, down and wait.
She learned how to disengage from things she could not have without anyone saying ‘leave’
Sassy was given agency over her own body and allowed us to put on a collar for the first time.
Sassy also gave us permission to engage in her grooming.
Giving dogs autonomy creates fantastic bonds and Sassy was thrilled to come when she was called.
This is the future of dog training.
