My Blog article this week: Did you know the pet food industry releases 64 million tons of CO2-equivalent greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere every single year, (and this is just in the United States alone), which is the equivalent to driving 13.6 million cars for a year." Says Professor Gregory Okin from The University of California.
“In the US alone, our pets’ diet contributes to 25-30% of the environmental impact of meat consumption.” He notes.

If American dogs and cats made up their own country, they would rank fifth in meat consumption globablly, a 2020 study by the University of Edinburgh stated, placing the pet-food industry as a whole, just behind the Philippines when it comes to total emissions generated.
These same pets also produce about 5.1 million tons of f***s in a year, as much as 90 million Americans do. And if they’re eating hormone fed, chemical and additive full meat off cut pet food, (which most pet foods are made from) their body’s and their f***s will be full of these toxic wastes too, which then go to landfill.

But there’re things you can do to help.

Choose dry food over wet pet food, which has significant impact on emissions, and so does choice in ingredients.

We're super excited to announce that a few days ago, Daya Pet Food Co. was launched. This project was inspired when my 15 yr old daughter Gracie, bought a border collie puppy she called Daya (which means compassion) a few months ago. And as any normal new pet owners, we started researching what foods were good vs. bad.

Gracie noticed there seemed to be quite poor quality ingredients in most normal, off the shelf pet-foods, even the vet recommended ones. After investigating myself, and being aware of the huge increases in cancer rates, joint issues, obesity & large spikes in other inflammatory diseases in pets, as well as the knowledge that the pet food industry is a big contributor to green house emissions, I was not surprised to see what their normal pet-food was made of; meat by products, additives, flavours, preservatives & other chemical nasties.

This gave my daughter and I the decision and drive to create our own pet-food using only the best, most natural, organic, high quality, farm & locally sourced ingredients. As well as using my years of knowledge in the sphere of gut micro-biome & anti-inflammatory nutrition, to create a pet-food that was going to switch off disease, (not on), that was going to taste good, be ethical, nutritionally hitting all the targets, be science based, whole-food based, functional, sustainable and having the ability to be personalised, where owners can chose vegan, vegetarian, marine or sustainable meat options. And treat health concerns specific to their pet.

We were then lucky enough that an Australian sustainability company SEAO2 (www.seao2.com.au), made up of a team of scientists working in association with Queensland University, and who produce high quality algae, heard about us- and offered us a partnership deal.
So Daya Pet Food Co. was born & we're super excited!
