Echidnas are on the move! 🦔
Please keep an eye out for our prickly natives on the roads.

With so many echidnas on the move, we are sadly seeing more of our spikey friends coming through our RSPCA Wildlife Hospital after being hit by cars on our roads 😢

Just like this curious and adorable baby echidna who was found on the road at Cashmere without its mum, trying to burrow and protect itself from harm.

Thankfully, it was rescued in time! After a check up at our RSPCA Wildlife Hospital to ensure this little echidna hadn't sustained any injuries from road trauma, it was able to go to a wildlife carer until old enough for a release back into the wild ❤️

🚑 Our RSPCA teams are rescuing 27,000 animals, just like this baby echidna, every year in Queensland. To continue to save lives, we need to improve our capacity to care.

You can help protect the future of wildlife by helping build a Centre that can support proactive wildlife care through education, training and research, as well as emergency care. Find out more 👉 bit.ly/3IohCEE

Plutus' honourable tail 🐶❤️
We're so happy to hear just how well Plutus is settling in with his new family.

"I wanted to let you know that Plutus has settled in better than we could have hoped. He has a great personality and loves our boys which is very much reciprocated."

"I wanted to thank everyone for their time and efforts over the past few days, we believe we have been lucky enough to find the missing piece of our family after losing our Luna last year."

"Thank you once again for everything you all do, it really is amazing to give these dogs and other animals a chance of a loving forever home."

Thank you Gailer family for sharing your Tails of Honour. We are so grateful you opened your heart to Plutus and that he is now living his best life with you 🥰🐾

Celebrating NAIDOC Week at RSPCA QLD! 🖤💛❤️
At RSPCA QLD, we are honoured to celebrate and show our support for our First Nations staff and volunteers, and the broader Indigenous community. This week provides a meaningful opportunity for us to come together and appreciate the rich culture, history, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We deeply value the unique perspectives and knowledge that our First Nations staff and volunteers bring to our organisation. Their dedication and wisdom are invaluable, and we are committed to supporting them in every way we can.

This year, marks 50 years of honouring and elevating the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through NAIDOC Week. The theme this year, ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’, invites us to reflect on the past and look to the bright future ahead — led by young Indigenous leaders who continue to inspire us with strength, knowledge, and hope.

As we embark on this journey of understanding and appreciation, we are eager to learn more about Indigenous culture and find better ways to support our First Nations colleagues and communities. NAIDOC Week is a chance for us to deepen our knowledge, build stronger connections, and foster a more inclusive environment for all.

Throughout this week our RSPCA QLD Teams has come together to celebrate, learn, and honour the rich history and culture of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth with a number of events, ranging from yarning circles and online meet-ups, to guest speakers and attending local NAIDOC events. Thank you to all our First Nation team for sharing their personal experiences and stories, their connection to the land and native animals, and their traditions with us.

🤝 Together, lets celebrate NAIDOC Week with respect, gratitude, and a shared commitment to learning and growth.

🚨 CALL FOR INFORMATION 🚨
Do you know this dog? She was handed in to the Logan Council Pound on Friday July 4 by a member of the public from Chambers Flat Road. She has no identification.

She is approximately 6-7 years of age and severely emaciated. She has one eye. It appears her other eye was previously surgically removed.

RSPCA Inspectors are urging anyone with information about this dog to please come forward by reporting it to 1300 ANIMAL (264 625) or reporting via our website 👉 rspcaqld.org.au/contact-us/report-cruelty

For now, we have named her Willa which means resolute protector and she is currently getting the care she needs from our dedicated veterinary team.

A life lived to the full ❤️
It is with a heavy heart today that we share the loss of our beloved Michael Beatty.

Michael was much-loved at the RSPCA as our Senior Media Advisor, Community Relations Manager and Spokesperson for 17 years. His cheeky banter and passion were unmatched.

In 2019, Michael was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to animal welfare, but in true Michael style, he dedicated his award to everyone else. “While I am truly honoured and humbled by this award, I should point out that it belongs to all the staff and volunteers at RSPCA Qld. It is the vets, vet nurses, inspectors, ambos, animal attendants and volunteers who strive every day to help all animals that deserve the accolade, not me. I am just ‘the messenger’.”

Even since his retirement in 2021, Michael has never been a stranger to the RSPCA, always popping in for a chat, donating newspapers for our wildlife hospital, and continuing to host talks about the RSPCA and his book at social groups.

While we all feel a heavy loss for a top bloke and animal advocate, our thoughts are also with Michael’s family and friends during this difficult time.

Cheers to you Michael - a great mate to all creatures great and small. You will be very missed, but your legacy lives on.

Georgie's honourable tail 🐱❤️
Coming into our care too small to be away from his mum, Georgie needed some much needed care and love from one of our amazing foster carers, Katelin. And it wasn't long before he had Katelin wrapped around his little paw, so much so he has now found the purrfect home with her 🥰

"We have been fostering this little guy for nearly 4 weeks! He came to us with no name and no clue on how to be a kitten."

"Today he bears the name 'Georgie' and has gotten on with housemates Sheldon and Missy, and our foster fail Monnie, so much we have decided to adopt him! "

"We love our little Georgie."

Thank you Katelin for giving Georgie the life he deserves. Here's to a lifetime of love and unforgettable memories together! 🐾❤️

‼️ WARNING: STRONG WINDS 💨💨
Destructive winds and rains are forecast today for NSW which are most likely to be felt in South-East Queensland.

These severe conditions can lead to our wildlife becoming displaced, sick, injured or orphaned.

HOW YOU CAN HELP 👇

🤚 Only approach animals if it is safe to do so.

🦘 Injured and sick wildlife can be brought directly to our Wacol Wildlife Hospital (if safe to do so).

☎️ Call our RSPCA Emergency Hotline on 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625) 7am to 7pm for advice, or your local wildlife group.

🚫 Avoid feeding or giving water as this can cause harm.

🐦 Birds (and possums) may be grounded. If they appear uninjured keep them safe, warm and dry in box with a towel/blanket.

🦇 Flying foxes may find themselves caught on powerlines or fences. If you find a bat in need to assistance, do not touch them call the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL, Bat Conservation and Rescue Qld or your nearest wildlife carer.

Patiently waiting for their forever families ❤️
Today, we're shining the light on our pets in foster care 🐱🐶🐦🐹

Foster Care can be a life-line, providing temporary homes to animals in need of a helping hand who are recovering from surgery or medical conditions, undergoing rehabilitation or even just spending time out of the shelter. Foster care offers them a safe haven to heal and prepare for their forever families 🥰

So, if you’re looking to adopt, why not consider our foster care friends today and give them the forever home they truly deserve 👉 rspcaqld.org.au 🏡❤️

A road safety reminder 🚗❗
We might be rugged up and staying nice and warm inside, but our wildlife are still out and about 🦘🐨🦔

Sadly, sometimes wildlife like koalas, kangaroos, reptiles, possums, birds and other animals are struck and killed or badly injured by motor vehicles. So, it’s important we all play our part to look out for our wildlife.

Here are some steps we can take to significantly reduce the odds of having an animal related crash, and to help wildlife should you find them in distress 👇

‼️ Be alert while driving and aware of where wildlife are located – be extra careful when driving at dusk and dawn as these are the times wildlife are most active.

🚗 Sadly, there may be times when you cannot avoid an animal when driving. When it’s safe to do so, stop, pull over and check your vehicle, as sometimes animals can get caught in car grills and engine bays.

☎️ Call RSPCA's Emergency Hotline on 1300 ANIMAL (264 625) 7am - 7pm, or your local wildlife rescue group for assistance with sick or injured animals in need of help.

🚑 Keep a wildlife rescue kit in the car. Small animals can be easily transported to a vet, if safe to do so.

🦘 Pouch checks can save lives – if you come across an injured animal, if they have a pouch please check for any young.

From squalor and pain, to safety and comfort 🐶💔
Maisie, a 3-year-old poodle cross, was living in horrific conditions - part of a tragic case of hoarding.

Part of a large-scale rescue of over 100 animals, Maisie was being kept for breeding.

You can help save precious lives like Maisie by making a tax-deductible donation today 👉 bit.ly/43HLMtm

The stench of Maisie’s living conditions was overwhelming. A layer of hardened dirt and faeces covered the floor. Diseases, infestations and infections were being passed from one animal to another.

Barely recognisable as a dog, Maisie had a severely matted coat. Her fur was so tangled she couldn’t move her legs. She also had infections and infestations. Rescuing her was an emergency.

Everyone at the shelter began preparing. The vet team started the huge task of seeing each animal on arrival and prioritising the most urgent cases.

The first step was removing Maisie’s filthy, overgrown coat, enabling her to move freely again, before her the rest of her treatment began.

Thanks to people like you, Maisie got the vet care she desperately needed fast. And now, many months later and fully recovered, lives a beautiful life with Karen who adopted her.

“She looked lost. This little dog is desperate for love,” says Karen, remembering her first time seeing Maisie.

Today, Maisie is happy, healthy and loved. It’s a total transformation, and that’s what your incredibly kind gift has the power to do ❤️

Animals in pain need urgent treatment. Will you help provide emergency vet care for an animal like Maisie so they can recover and start a new life, surrounded by the love they deserve?

Imagine being dumped and completely abandoned like your life didn't matter 💔

That was the case for these two little kittens.

Abandoned by their owner, a caring member of the public found them and brought them into the RSPCA for help.

Sadly, kittens Tyler and Reece aren’t the only unwanted animals that end up at the RSPCA. In fact, one of the top reasons animals are surrendered into our care is simply due to them being unwanted.

We believe every animal should have a loving home for life. With RSPCA's Operation Wanted we can prevent abandonment by ensuring every pet is wanted.

Do your part, desex your pet today to prevent unplanned pregnancies with 20% off cat and dog desexing at participating vets.

📸 Caption this!
What an expression baby Tawny Frogmouth Alfred has 🤣

🦉 Alfred came into our RSPCA Wildlife Hospital weighing just 160 grams - so small and fragile. Alone and vulnerable, he needed urgent care to survive.

Our Wildlife Team gently placed Alfred into a warm humidicrib, a special device that mimics the comfort and cover of a nest. He was lovingly hand-fed every few hours with a nutritious blend of insect powder, rodent protein, and a variety of bugs like wood cockroaches and soldier fly larvae (a real treat for a growing bird!).

As Alfred grew stronger, his carers helped him practise perching and encouraged him to snap at food, preparing him for the wild. Once his fluffy baby feathers were replaced by sleek adult plumage, Alfred graduated to an aviary, where he strengthened his flight muscles and sharpened his hunting instincts. And soon Alfred will be ready to be released back to the wild ❤️

🚑 Our RSPCA teams are rescuing 27,000 animals, just like Alfred, every year in Queensland. To continue to save lives, we need to improve our capacity to care.

You can help protect the future of wildlife by helping build a Centre that can support proactive wildlife care through education, training and research, as well as emergency care. Find out more 👉 bit.ly/4dVyXQS
