Hi, I’m Cody

Cody is a gorgeous little fellow with a winning personality who looooves cuddles and attention. He is sure to melt hearts anywhere he goes and will make friends by showing his sweet cuddly nature and asking for belly rubs from anyone who passes by.

He is a playful boy and an enthusiastic playmate. He is happy to play on his own with his favourite toys, but also loves playing fetch with his friends. He is very switched on and already knows how to sit, lie down and roll over!

Mistreated in the cruelest way, to a safe loving home 🐱
You may remember Bernard who came to us a few months ago with suspected chemical burns to over half of his body.

Bernard was thankfully found by a good Samaritan and was taken to a local emergency vet before being transferred by our RSPCA Rescue Unit and brought into care for treatment by our Veterinary Team.

It was a long road to recovery with extensive treatment needed for his second degree burns and to heal from the trauma he endured – ongoing pain management, antibiotics and daily bathing of his burns was just the start. But through it all Bernard was a loving little soul who stole our hearts from the moment he arrived in our care.

After several weeks in our RSPCA hospital, Bernard's burns had finally healed to the point they were no longer seeping and he was able to go home with one of our amazing foster carers to continue his recovery in a loving home. Bernard slowly but steadily improved daily, and while his fur may not fully grow back, after many weeks he is a far cry from horrific condition he was once in.

Despite a call for information to find out how Bernard came to sustain his injuries and to locate his owners, we had no luck with information coming to light.

While we weren’t able to see justice for Bernard, we are very happy to say after months in care he was given the all clear by our Vets and has now found a very loving forever family ❤️

New kid on the block! 🐐❤️
The end of October saw our Brisbane Animal Care Campus buzzing with excitement when Pepsi, one of our goats in care, gave birth 🥰

Pepsi came into our care after being found wandering, pregnant and vulnerable, along with four other goats.

Life on her own had been harsh; she was weary, and her swollen belly made each step harder. She was also suffering from a small abscess and lice.

Arriving at RSPCA, Pepsi knew she had finally found safety, and just in the nick of time! Not long after arriving at our Animal Care Centre, Pepsi gave birth to a tiny 3.54kg kid to the sound of a hailstorm raging outside.

Both Mum and bub are doing fantastic. Pepsi is proving to be an amazing mum to little Maximus, as he’s been named 🥰

Now safe, warm and protected, Pepsi will raise Maximus in our care until they are both ready to find their forever home ❤️

Help our wildlife beat the heat! 🐨🦘
As we try to stay out of the heat, remember our wildlife who also live under the blistering Queensland sun.

While our wildlife have cleaver ways to keep cool they can still succumb to heat stress. But you can help give them a helping hand 👇

💧 Leave bowls of fresh, clean water in shady locations near shrubs or bushes, and away from pets so they can drink undisturbed
🐾 Shallow dishes are best for smaller animals
🌿 If using a large container, provide a rock or stick so any small animas can climb out if they become stuck

🥵 This summer, keep an eye out for wildlife suffering from heat stress. And those who may have burns to their feet - a common case we see with possums who live near tin roofs or iron fences who can bear the worst of the heat as their journey sees them travelling along these hot surfaces.

☀️WARNING: Things are heating up this week! Remember your pets as you start to sweat or sit pretty in air con.

🐶🐱🐹 For domestic pets:
🏡 Check they have ample shade and ventilation all day (remember, the sun moves throughout the day - what's shady in the morning won't be shady at midday or in the afternoon).
💧 Ensure you pet has plenty of access to cool water, in multiple bowls incase one tips over
🌅 Keep your pet walks to sunrise and sunset, if the ground is too hot for you it's too hot for your pet!
🚗 Never leave your dog in a car (a cracked window makes little difference to the temperature) or on a hot ute tray
😎 Add pet appropriate cooling enrichment to their day from frozen pupsicles to a wet towel for them to lie on in a cool and shady spot.

Tangled in a wire fence 🦉💔
Found entangled in barbed wire fencing unable to free himself, this Boobook was cut free by a kind member of the public who took him to a local vet in Toowoomba before being transferred by our Volunteer Rescue Team to our RSPCA Wildlife Hospital for a thorough check over.

Despite his encounter with the spiky wire fence, our Wildlife Team found he had suffered no major injuries apart from a couple of wing feathers that were accidently cut when freeing him.

Without his feathers fully intact this Boobook could no longer fly. But luckily damaged feathers can be repaired by attaching part of a new feather. With no Boobook feathers on hand our friends at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary graciously sent us some from their feather library.

Not long after the delicate procedure to attach his new feathers, he was given a flight test and passed with flying colours!

Now with the ability to fly once more, this Boobook was able to be released back to the night skies 🌃❤️

Sadly, many of our precious native wildlife (especially nocturnal species) struggle to navigate past barbed wire fences. If you encounter wildlife entangled in barbed wire, please contact our RSPCA emergency hotline on 1300 ANIMAL (264 625) for assistance and advice.
