Coffee snow! The beans are pretty much done for this year, asides from a few stragglers and the recent rain has triggered a coordinated flush of perfumed coffee flowers! Very pretty 💕 I havent weighed all the coffee we picked this year yet because Im only weighing it once its fully processed and roasted. But it will be a few kilos!

And we have another flower on the jackfruit. Looks male to me, so no fruit coming just yet but an excellent sign that female flowers and then fruit are not far away.

Made a snap decision to pull my garlic. Its a tad on the green side but the cloves have divided and theyve developed papers, so should be ok. Didnt want it to get rained on.

We grow our broccoli over winter when its cool and there are no cabbage moths. No spray and usually no nets required. The broccoli continues to punch out so many little heads after the main stem is long gone. Weve been picking broccoli for months. This lot is destined for the freezer.

This might not look too exciting at first glance- but it actually is cause…these little brown buds are the beginnings of miracle fruit flowers! Another first in the garden. If we successfully get fruit, then we will be enjoying experimenting with them because once you eat one, everything tastes sweet for the next hour or two! Meaning, you can literally eat a lemon!

We pruned off some branches from the cinnamon tree yesterday, so I thought Id have a go at collecting the inner bark- the cinnamon! An exciting “first” for me! Ever since I saw a cinnamon tree in Bali, Ive wanted to grow it. I also collected the leaves for a beautiful cinnamon tea which is so warming in winter :)

Chasing blue banded bees….so allusive and so beautiful, you can hear them usually before you see them. Delightful watching them gather pollen from the native raspberry, shining like little sapphires in the sun 💙

The Saba Nut or Malabar Chestnut. Our tree is 6 years old and while it has been producing nuts for several years, this year it really hit its stride. Despite an influx of a particular type of stink bugs, the nuts have produced very well. I like to mostly eat them fresh. They taste like a sort of nutty sprout. Not quite a nut, not quite a sprout.

I planted quite a lot of chilli this year, all be it a tad late. Were gonna be harvesting for some time yet. The really little ones are a wild chilli- very spicy. I dont plant them, they just pop up. Then we have thai chilli, spicy but a must have flavour in Thai cooking, Long red chilli which are flavourful but mild, and finally these crazy looking but mild Cayenne Chilli’s called Joes Long. We did also grow Jalapeños but have none ripe at the moment. We will be able to make all kinds of condiments and dried chilli flakes too which will take us through the year. No need to buy from the supermarket.

Rice in a bucket! Not a large crop but will have plenty of seed for a bigger one next time.
