We promised, and here it is!

Remember sweet Luna the 7 year old husky who had to learn to walk again following the diagnosis of a cancerous spinal lesion? She recently visited ONE Cancer Care for Pets for a follow-up MRI - and the results were miraculous!

As you can see Luna’s lesion, which was once the size of a plum, has decreased significantly and is no longer reacting as a cancerous lesion would! YAY!

Luna’s journey has been long, and without the love and consistency of her amazing family and the care, compassion and gold-standard medical and radiation oncology treatment of ONE and, of course, her brave, courageous spirit (AND love of treats), things may not have turned out the way they have for our sweet girl, but she has made it through!

A super big shout out to Luna – she is very loved around here!! 💘 🐶

“I may have rescued him, but it was he who saved my life.” – Shadow’s Mum.

Meet sweet Shadow, the rescue dog. Shadow is one of the most attentive huskies that will ever grace your presence.

When we first met him, he had a thyroid mass the size of a grapefruit; BUT following lifesaving radiation therapy by the team at ONE, Shadow’s nasty tumour is no longer wreaking havoc on his body. Yay! And according to all reports (and we can confirm), Shadow is back to his cheeky and ever-so-charming ways - wooing everyone and anyone for treats and puppy kisses! 💖

Shadow is pictured below with our super amazing Oncology Nurse, Will.

Luna is walking again!

When beautiful Luna presented to us, she had severe hind limb lameness; it was so bad that she could hardly walk – it was heartbreaking to see.

In late February, it was discovered that lymphoma of the spine was causing Luna’s lameness. The only way to treat this type of lymphoma - and ultimately save Luna’s life - was through a two-pronged oncology approach of chemotherapy and radiation. This treatment plan can only be prescribed and performed by a specialist qualified in both Medical and Radiation Oncology – a specialist such as our own Dr David Lurie.

Sweet Luna has since undergone radiation of the spine and chemotherapy, and as you can see, she is as happy as ever – and, most importantly, walking again!

*** Stay tuned for Luna’s post-treatment MRI results next week.

‘Hi, I'm Millie, and I'm a true blue Red Dog - an Australian Kelpie, that is. And only a few weeks ago, I was diagnosed with lymphoma. I was feeling shocking - even for an oldie like me! But, since starting chemotherapy, I'm feeling so much better; my appetite is back, and I have a bounce in my step again. If your fur kid has any scary lumps or bumps, make sure they go and see the team at ONE Cancer Care for Pets, they’re my heroes!’ ~ Millie 💙✨

Last December, Roidy, the nine year old Rough Coated Collie, almost didn’t make it to Christmas. You see, Roidy had a lump hiding under the base of his tail, and if it weren’t for the diligence of his mum, not only would this gorgeous boy not have made Christmas, but he would not be here today.

Roidy was referred to ONE Cancer Care for Pets. A thorough examination, including a CT, decided that Surgical Oncology was the best course of action for the sweet pup. On the 22nd of December, Roidy was prepped for surgery to remove the nasty tumour threatening his life.

AND not only did Roidy celebrate Christmas with his Mama and his fur sister, but he is now fighting fit and cancer free! 🙌🏻

Roidy is pictured below with his favourite vet, Dr Pauline, who he visited last week for a recheck – send brave Roidy some love, Facebook Family 💖🐶

Eyelashes of every girl’s dream!

Meet our stunning, lovely-lashed Bentley. Eleven year old Bentley presented to one of our partner hospitals, Sydney Vet Emergency & Specialists (SVES) in Rosebery, for uncontrollable seizures. During these seizures, poor Bentley’s body would shake, his mouth would froth, and he would accidentally urinate on himself. The episodes would last for a few minutes at a time - it was terrifying for both Bentley and his family.

Following a thorough examination by the team at SVES, it was determined that Bentley should be referred to ONE Cancer for Pets for Radiation Therapy to treat the awful brain tumour causing the horrible seizures.

And after only a couple of weeks and three sessions of Radiation Therapy, the results have been incredible!

‘Bentley is going great, he hasn’t had any more seizures, and yesterday he jumped up on the bed for the first time in a long time.’ Bentley’s mum told us of her precious boy 🐶💖

The full effectiveness of Radiation Therapy is not at its peak until the four-month mark, so it looks like sweet Bentley is on the road to being back to his old self again.

Two year old Georgio was the type of dog who loved being active; he loved to run and swim - he could even balance on a Fit Ball better than most humans! But one day, Georgio’s mum noticed that his balance was off and that he had started shaking his head.

Georgio’s symptoms increased rapidly, but thankfully he was referred to Dr David at ONE Cancer Care for Pets. On presentation, he had a severe head tilt, and following a thorough examination and complete diagnostics, it was discovered that Georgio had a life-threatening brain tumour.

Dr David and his team quickly prepared a Radiation plan for Georgio – and as you can see from the video, the results have been miraculous!

Stay tuned across our social channels and website for Georgio’s full story, including an interview with his mum; but for now, here's a snippet of this courageous pup’s journey 💙✨

‘This is my Thyroid Cancer Fighting Shirt!’ & ‘HIS Fight is MY Fight!’ Murray’s family have donned their best warrior armour for their BEST BOY!

Sweet Murray has recently been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, but his paws have landed in the right place; he is set to start Radiation Therapy with Dr David and his team this week.

Thyroid tumours are relatively uncommon in dogs; however, if your pup develops a lump or swelling around their throat region or has changes in their breathing, contact your local vet for a check up.

As for Murray, let’s send him some love, Facebook Family! 💖

We often get asked, what is the difference between an MRI and a CT scan; and why these scans are sometimes needed over an X-ray or an Ultrasound. So, we thought we’d give a brief rundown on the various types of diagnostic scans we use at ONE Cancer Care for Pets.

Let’s start with the most common of diagnostic scans, the X-ray: X-rays are used to view the body’s internal structure. They are mostly used to diagnose fractures, dislocations, tumours and foreign objects within the body.

A CT, however, is like a 3D X-ray. CT images of internal organs, bones, soft tissue and blood vessels provide a lot more detail than a regular X-ray.

Then we have the Ultrasound: An Ultrasound is sort of like a torch shining into the body. It shows pictures of the internal structures of the body in real-time. It’s mostly used to view the heart, abdominal and pelvic organs and, in our case, not yet born puppies and kittens!

If an Ultrasound is like a torch, an MRI is like a spotlight! Nearly every part of your pet’s body can be studied with an MRI. This type of scan gives very detailed pictures of soft tissue organs like the brain. It allows our specialists to view the spine and brain in slices, as if they were sliced layer-by-layer and a picture taken of each slice.

At ONE, we understand that sometimes when you visit us there can be lots of, what feels like, foreign information; so if there is ever anything that you are unsure of, please don’t hesitate to contact our friendly team.

When chemo visits are SUPER fun!

Meet Kobi; gorgeous Kobi presented to us for an ultrasound and to discuss treatment options following a mast cell tumour removal at his local vet. It was decided that chemotherapy treatment was the right option for this adorable 10 year old pooch, and as you can see, he is taking it all in his stride!

🌟🌟UPDATE ON NEKO 🌟🌟

Hello David & Team,

Little Neko is whizzing up the M1 on his way home! I’m sitting in the back with him.

You will be interested and happy to know that we think he is looking and sounding immeasurably better. Our sweet tiny boy had been through so much until he met you. We promised him we would find him the best and we did. Thank you so very, very much.

We look forward to seeing you for his follow up appointment in a couple of weeks.

Best wishes

Gorgeous Koby presented with sudden onset seizures to the emergency department of one of our partner hospitals, the Animal Referral Hospital in Homebush. Once stabilised, he was referred to ONE Cancer Care for Pets for a thorough examination and complete diagnostics, including an MRI, where it was discovered that sweet Koby had a life-threatening brain tumour. Dr David Lurie and his team quickly prepared a specialised radiation plan for Koby, and since completion, this happy boy has been seizure free and living his BEST life! 🐶

“We know that every moment is precious with our boy, and we just want people to know that treatment options are available for dogs with cancer, dogs like Koby. Since his treatment, he is back to normal; he hasn’t skipped a beat! And we are just so thankful.” – Koby’s Dad

‘Hi, I’m Sheba, and I was super brave for my CT scan! I have a tumour in my mouth, and I had to have a scan to make sure that I don't have any tumours anywhere else in my body - I don’t. YAY! That green thing they put on me is called a THERMOPLASTIC MASK; it’s to make sure my position is super accurate for when they are planning my radiation – yep, Deanna, the Radiation Therapist, who is really nice, and Dr David are going to ZAP that yucky tumour for me! I start this week; I’ll keep you updated on my progress.

Wish me luck!’ - Sheba 🐱💚✨

“Hi, I’m Mila! I’m an Oncology Pup; Dr Sonya looks after me - she’s the BEST! If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t be celebrating this Easter with my family. My mum and dad were a little unsure whether to start me on chemo tablets because they were worried I’d get really sick, but I’m glad they did - and they are too!

If you have fur kids like me who have been given a scary diagnosis, contact ONE Cancer Care for Pets - they’re the best!

Happy Easter, everyone!!”

Love Mila xx

In December 2020, gorgeous Alfie, the 10 year old Miniature Schnauzer loved food; by late January 2021, he suddenly stopped eating. By Australia Day, he was diagnosed with lymphoma and referred to Oncologist Dr David Lurie.

“At the time, we were unsure whether chemotherapy was right for Alfie, but we’re so glad we did it, and Dr David and his team made us feel at ease throughout the entire journey.” Alfie’s dad, Martin, remembers.

Dr David and his team crafted a specialised treatment plan for Alfie, and TWO YEARS on, Alfie, now 12, is in REMISSION and living his best life - and as you can see, he and Dr David are still BFFs! ❤️🐶✨
