Lowes Mount Truffiere is located near Oberon and an hour from Katoomba and the Blue Mountains.

Lowes Mount Truffiere produce and sell black perigord truffles (Tuber melanosporum) to order and offer truffle dog hunting services and truffle dog training workshops on-farm in truffle season.

And just like that, the 2024 perigord black truffle season is over for another year. A season of plentiful and beautiful truffles, Fergus was his usual hunting machine, Theo stepped up and graduated as a truffle dog and we had a lot of fun sharing the skills of truffle dog training with lots of dogs and handlers who had an awesome day out hunting in the truffiere! Time for some champers to celebrate and look ahead to the warmth of summer....

What a high flying group for our last truffle dog training day. Windy conditions made things difficult but the dogs were amazing tracking the truffle "cloud" and finding the truffles. They will sleep really well tonight!

Check out all our new truffle hunters! Such a great group today introducing dogs and handlers to truffle hunting. We found some spots out of the bitter wind to practice some basics getting the dogs to recognise the scent of the truffle, start to indicate and be let loose to find a wild truffle in the truffiere! We even timed our truffle lunch to bask in the sun for a while. So much fun and there will be some soundly sleeping dogs tonight!

Some of the worst conditions we've ever hunted in today. Bitterly cold wind strong enough to blow you over and driving sleet and sago snow to sting anything exposed. We found out Fergus hates the sleet on his face! And who can blame him...

Absolutely freezing in the truffiere ahead of our dog training weekend. But at least the sun is out for a few moments.

Theo is starting to hunt really well in his first proper season- he's finding truffle well, on a range of farms, but we are working on staying straight and focused on a tree line and not stealing the digging stick to play with or joining in on the digging (apparently there's nothing better than digging holes with mum!). He's definitely still a puppy!

Our truffle season is drawing to a close. Fergus was accurate right to the end, Theo learnt his trade (even if we need to work on making sure he doesn't dig it out and eat it himself- he has alot of fun!), and we had many lovely groups of people finding truffle in our beautiful truffiere. Lots of fun and now its time to recuperate for next year!

Our Story

Lowes Mount Truffiere produce and sell black perigord truffles (Tuber melanosporum) and offer truffle hunts with our dogs and a ploughmans lunch on Saturday or Sunday mornings in June, July and August. Bookings are essential. Check our website for available dates.

Fresh truffle can be ordered in season (June, July and August) or purchased from the Oberon farmers markets on the first Saturday of the month in July and August.

All our products are handmade on our truffle farm and contain only Tuber melanosporum and natural carriers such as salt, honey and butter. Our products do not contain any artificial truffle aroma or other flavours or preservatives. Truffled products can be purchased all year from the Long Arm Farm Cafe in Oberon, the Oberon Visitors Centre or the Beekeepers Inn between Orange and Bathurst.
