This International Day of Rural Women we thought we would take the opportunity to introduce Sharna.

While you are more likely to find her behind the laptop screen than in the paddock Sharna is an integral member of our Four Peaks Pastoral team.

Growing up in Omeo and attending Swifts Creek Secondary Sharna fondly remembers the times spent on her friend’s farms in the area and loves spending time outdoors. When she’s not juggling the kids, or planning things in the community you may find her working as a nurse.

As an applicant of the Victorian Rural Women’s Leadership and Mentoring Program Sharna has unlocked a desire to work within the agricultural industry and use her expertise to promote the health and wellbeing of those who work within it and the rural men, women & children who live within our communities.

It was nice to get a little rain overnight however there is no denying that we are all hopeful for more.

If you think it's dry where you are, that's because it is.

This is the 14 month rainfall deficiencies map, clearly showing how dry it is across the agricultural areas of South Australia (and parts of Vic and WA as well)

This week more promised rain failed to deliver.

It's now too late for most crops. However any rain is welcome, for our sheep feed, for the rainwater tanks, and for morale.

The SA Government continues it's ongoing dedication to no drought declarations. Local council areas are calling out for drought declarations in order to open up drought funding for farmers and rural communities. I argue that drought recognition and drought declaration is not just about opening up funding, it's about validation and recognition.

Letting farmers know that they are not alone.

Letting farmers know that this season was out of their control.

"Validation is essential because it helps us feel less alone in our struggles. It allows us to acknowledge that what we’re experiencing is real and difficult."

I share more in my article for AuctionsPlus https://pulse.auctionsplus.com.au/people/validation-during-tough-times
