🐾 Ever wondered what it takes to showcase your dog in a conformation show? 🐾

Conformation shows are events where dogs are evaluated by specialist judges based on how closely they adhere to their breed standards. These shows are organised by affiliated clubs and take place throughout the year across New South Wales.

Getting Started:
Check the Schedule: Visit the DOGS NSW Shows & Trials (https://www.dogsnsw.org.au/events/show-and-trials-guide/) calendar to find upcoming events and note their entry deadlines.

Enter a Show: The Gazette section of your monthly DOGS NSW Magazine provides show advertisement schedules for events up to two months in advance. These are also available on the DOGS NSW website under the Events tab in the “Show and Trials Guide” sub-menu.

Why Participate?
Conformation shows are a fantastic way to celebrate the unique qualities of your dog, connect with fellow enthusiasts, and contribute to the preservation of breed standards.

For more information on how to get involved, visit the DOGS NSW website: https://www.dogsnsw.org.au/events/conformation-showing-your-dog/

When we do have litters of puppies they have our 24/7 care and attention. We love and care for them as if we were keeping them all. While we miss them when they have gone we know they have gone to the best homes. This is why we do our utmost when placing these puppies with the best families.🐾🐾

With hot weather and outdoor adventures, it's important to be aware of the dangers posed by snakes to your dog. Snakes, especially in rural and bushland areas of NSW, can be a threat to your pets, particularly during the summer months when they are more active.

To protect your dog, be vigilant during walks or outdoor playtime. Keep your dog on a leash when walking in areas with dense grass or bush, where snakes may hide. Make sure your dog stays on pathways or clear areas to avoid coming across snakes.

If you do encounter a snake, remain calm and move your dog away from the area carefully. Never attempt to handle the snake, as this can increase the risk of bites. If your dog is bitten, act quickly—seek immediate veterinary care. Common signs of a snake bite include sudden weakness, swelling at the bite site, drooling, or difficulty breathing. In these cases, the quicker you can get medical help, the better the chance of a successful recovery.

Regularly check your dog after walks for any unusual signs, such as redness or weakness around their legs or body. Taking care to prevent encounters and knowing what to do if it happens can ensure your dog's safety during outdoor adventures.

The foundation of the Doberman Pinscher were two dogs: A stud muffin named, “Schnupp” (described as a black male with red markings who was clever and fearless) and a lass named, “Bisart.”

Though we want to talk about Bisart, we mention briefly that Schnupp and Bisart’s puppies were black pups with rust colored markings. From that point on, accounts vary as to what other breeds went into the dog that Friedrich Louis Doberman created. By most accounts, the German Pinscher, Beauceron, German Shepherd Dog, Manchester Terrier, German Short-Haired Pointer, Greyhound, Great Dane, Weimaraner, and Black and Tan Terrier all went into the mix.

As for Bisart, she was originally named “Bismarck,” but Dobermann was warned that it was unlawful to give a female dog the name of a great statesman, so he changed her name to “Bisart.”

It was said that Bisart was a very keen young lady, and it paid to be careful with her. When she was in season and went with Herr Dobermann on his rounds, no other protection was needed other that to allow Schnupp to go along. Think “social” distancing?” If local boys approached the saucy young lady, Herr Dobermann only needed to say to Schnupp, “Lets get rid of the other dogs,” and Schnupps would immediately chase them off.

Dobermann’s son would go on to say that his father bred some very good puppies from Bisart, youngsters that were almost all black with red marking (though the occasional black with red and white markings would come through). These dogs were never used for breeding, but neither were they were not culled because they great working dogs.

“P***o,” one of Bisart’s daughters, had a natural bobtail, but Dobermann kept her in his breeding program. Thinking he would get pups with short tails, he bred P***o with a bobtailed stud and this eliminate the need to dock tails. Results; Only one bobtailed puppy appeared in the litter, but P***o did consistently produce Black and tan, and Blue and tan puppies. She also whelped many other bi***es who went onto produce the foundation stock of the Dobermann Breed.

Dogs may be the “peacocks” in a show ring, but just try to create or continue a breed without a great bitch.
