🐶 Ziggy came in today to have a tooth removed after her 6 month check up last week ⬇️
🐶 During her dental check we noticed she had a retained deciduous tooth (baby tooth)! These predispose the adult teeth to grow in the wrong spot and can also lead to early onset of dental disease. Narrow based lower canine teeth are called ‘Linguoverted Canine Teeth.’
What is that you ask❓
🐶 Linguoverted canine teeth are base narrow or inverted canines. Basically meaning the tooth is growing too vertically and piercing into the hard palate every time they close their mouth causing trauma to the tissue, which can be very painful 😢
🐾 This is more common in dogs than cats (but can occur in cats as well.)
🐾 This shows the importance of bringing in your pup/ kitten for their 6 month check up so we don’t miss little things like this!
🐶 Luckily the procedure to extract the tooth is quick and painless for your pup 🙌🏼
At least Ziggy forgave us straight after she woke up and was back to her energetic self 🥰🙏🏼
