In response to comments made yesterday on a local community page which insinuated that we traumatize the dogs in our care, we just want to have the chance to defend ourselves.
We take great pride in our work and facility, it’s basically our life, we are here 24/7 and if we can’t be we have someone that can be.
By insinuating that we traumatize pets it’s an insult to us personally and to our business. The business has been established for over 50 years and we have been at the helm now for over 24 years. If traumatizing guests was something we did then I’m pretty sure the business would have closed down a long time ago.
I feel that there are people out there that assume all dogs come in a ‘one size fits all’ category which of course is completely incorrect as dogs like us are all different. They have different needs and personalities. Some do well in a kennel environment some don’t and there’s some that just suffer from crippling anxiety and are best off staying at home where they feel most comfortable. For those that are social and happy to partake in new adventures then they will do well in a kennel environment and love coming in.
So if you think your dog has been ‘traumatized’ after a stay at our boarding kennel it’s due to stress and anxiety rather than mistreatment, the lesson being a boarding kennel is not for your pet. A pet sitter maybe more suitable.
The old saying you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink rings true also because as hard as we try to make a pet feel relaxed and comfortable it just won’t happen. Dogs are loyal and in some circumstances we just aren’t going to fill that gap that they have from missing you.
Most people also think that this is an easy job, playing with dogs and cats all day…yes it has its good moments but it’s also a hard job, infact I’m going to say it’s probably harder than a teachers job because those in our care can’t speak, they can’t explain how they feel.
We have the occasional dog that is unapproachable, this makes it very hard and have we ever been bitten?…yes it’s always a risk in this job.
We could be far more picky with who we allow to stay like another kennel in the area, I can see the benefit but we haven’t and still take pets with all sorts of behavior issues, medical issues, elderly, people’s circumstances such as homelessness and all breeds because we care, we prefer to be helpful to those with those types and everyone needs a break occasionally.
If there is an issue with a guest we will contact the owner to inform and seek the best way to over come the issue. If those owners choose to ignore our concerns then they obviously aren’t taking it seriously or don’t care.
Those that publicly slam us strangely never contact us if they have an issue, so how can we help if we don’t know there’s a problem.
Any normal person can read through the lines and see this hopefully.
We truly appreciate all our loyal customers that use our service to look after their pets, some having been customers for longer than our 24 years. We thank you for your loyalty.
