Cute boy!
Look at this squishy 👀🤗
Rest easy beautiful Olive
Sometimes no matter how hard we try things just don’t work out the way we wish and yesterday was one of those days that took a piece of my heart and and an overall toll 😞
Thank you so much to Dr Tim and Dr Matt for seeing us as an emergency surgery and doing what you could for miss Olive.
Huge thank you to Olives previous owners for driving the girls those many hours up here those months ago and for all your support during this. You really are wonderful people.
I became attached to Olive and her sisters quite fast and knew they would stay here whether their health improved or not, they’ve bought such love and cheekiness with them and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to have met them.
Olive leaves behind her sisters Coco and Snow and joins her sister Milo over the bridge 🌈
Losing Olive has hit me quite hard and I need a couple of days to recover so will get back to everyone’s messages over the weekend
Coco, Olive & Snow
Every morning these 3 know it’s time to come out, they also know after 20mins it’s also when I have breakfast which of course they think is their’s.
They’re so damn cute 😩 how can I not share 🥹
(Snow is on life long Pimobendan for her heart, incase anyone was curious of her breathing 😉)
Some girls & their two lovely mums who joined us recently! Their original owner has done a great job with them and they’re all incredibly sweet. We’re really grateful we were contacted to help and get the opportunity to have crazy babies running around again 😍 they’ll be ready for homes very soon!
The little hand 🥹
Sleepy boy 😴
Progress!
How awesome is this little dude??
From fending for himself in the harsh heat and outside conditions, living amongst wildies (who amazingly didn’t harm him!) to doing little dancy dances within 2 days 🤩
Such strong hearted little creatures they are!
Deep in thought 🧐
Ahh..to ponder the depths of life mid ball clean
Safe in care 🐀
We were contacted this morning about a ratty that had made its way into an amazingly kind lady’s house, she had been leaving fresh veges for him over the past few days whilst he found safety under her furniture 💛
Luckily he was trapped last night and is now safe at the rescue!
He is the second rat in the area to be seen, we still haven’t had luck catching the other one in Glen Forrest so we are suspecting a multiple dumping case. If anyone has information or sees any others please contact us or PRRR - Perth Rat Rescue & Rehab
He will supplemented with some critical care & DiVetelact along with some anti-inflammatory meds over the next few days (for his eye) while we carefully watch for improvement on his overall condition.
He’s now sharing some of my quick lunch whilst I set up a cage for him
Winnie has finally been won over!
Winnie came from a preggy rescue last year, she is 1 out of 3 remaining from a litter of 11 all lost to heart issues.
Humans were an absolute NO for her and she was one of our most vocal even at the slightest touch she would scream at us.
We never stopped trying but it was clear she preferred her own kind and that was totally ok so we’ve let her rat the way she wants for a good while now and just over the past few days she’s come and asked for affection 🤯
It’s taken just over a year…yes a year 🫣
This video might not seem like much but she’s accepted pats…and likes it!
Persistence whilst respect for boundaries 🙌🏼 just goes to show, don’t give up just yet, things can turn around
Little guys ready from 19th
8 weeks and ready to leave the 19th,
adventurous, confident and happy little guys 💚
Happy recovery 🤗
Little Olive who is permanent resident here along with her sisters Coco & Snow, had a pyometra (uterus infection) removed earlier this week and thanks again to Dr Tim & the team at Wattle Grove vets she’s having a speedy recovery and is running around like nothing even happened!
So many boys 😳
Edited:
We have so many boys ready between 10th-23rd December, super crazy and confident.
(13 boys available, 10 pending adoption)
They include, some boys in a small litter we took on at 3 weeks, a litter a mum is raising here, some boys from a litter who’s sisters and mum are still with owner & my own litter (most light coloured babies) who after some discussion I will be continuing with so they are unavailable.
To say the very least…this year has been one for babies, a crazy amount 😝
The squeaks of offence!
Georgie wasn’t quite sure what to make of this strange block but she was certain she didn’t want to share 😂
(Occasional human treats are good for the soul 😌)
Cute fluffies 🥰
Pip & Merry came a few months ago with some others, they’ve come a really long way and we’re super proud of them.
They are still a little shy but can be picked up, given treats and free roam.
They are excellent with boys of varying personality but would be most suited somewhere calm either with a couple of chilled out boys or just the pair of them 💚
Some of our very curious playful boys who will be ready to leave in December 💚
As some of you know, I have recently started a breeding program in hopes to get some strong healthy sound lines here in Perth.
We are seeing issues that just should not be as prevalent as they unfortunately are.
Coming from a rescue stand point, why have I decided to bring more lives into the world when there are already so many that need help?
Because to try and get a handle of the situation we need to work on both sides of the scale, rescue-trying to help and correct/manage the result of uneducated breeding who are already here and breeding-trying correct, strengthen the genetic pool for years to come in hopes we won’t see as many issues in the future.
This is something I personally had to sit with and contemplate for a good while but you know what, I’m sick to death of just how sick our rats are and the lack of people truly wanting to improve the genetics of our rats which pushed me to the decision to try to help from both angles as I don’t see another way forward.
Unfortunately my second line showed issues within the first 3 weeks despite seemingly perfect parents and grandparents. Because of this I will not be going forward with this specific lineage and will reassess starting line 2 in a few months time.
I believe in transparency and I will answer any questions any of you have so please feel free to comment or pm me.
The lighter coloured babies are from said line and I would love to see them in good homes, there will be no adoption fee for them as they are my own doing and you will get full transparency if you would like them.
I still have many rescue babies including another litter of boys who will be arriving next week.
Respectfully yours,
Alex
These ratties were rescued from a neglectful situation with numerous other animals recently and we could just not say no after hearing about it!
Huge thank you to Romeo's Rabbit Rescue who got the girls into safe hands before contacting us 💛
The girls are curious and can be handled, they had some mite issues which have been treated along with minor RI’s and after potential pregnancy watch will be ready for a loving family to invite them in in a couple weeks time!
Owning rats and doing rescue is a whirlwind of emotions, some days are full of tears and some weeks are so testing you’re not sure if you can go on then you get reminded why you push through.
Strong bonds come and go and sometimes they know just when to leave you because there’s others that desperately need their place.
I can’t help but smile when I see them and they know exactly when I need to laugh, despite all the emergencies, euthanasias, sleepless nights and anxiety, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I truly love them.
The joy they bring is immeasurable.
No matter what you’re going through right now, it will pass, it always does 💚
I mean, look at these little floofs! There is beauty in the world after all
Sleepy boy
There’s not much else you can do but snooze on a hot day like this 😴
