🩵Jess Barnes Exercise Physiology rider fitness march 2025🩵

TNE loved getting to have Jess out for a rider fitness class last weekend. We did a circuit of different exercises, all focusing on assisting us in the saddle with things such as balance, upper body strength and core stability.

With music playing, moving our bodies and enjoying some juice and snacks after it was a great afternoon!

I can’t thank Jess enough for her time and knowledge!

Complete blank canvas. Myrtle didn’t want to be a race horse, I took her on as a project with the hopes of turning her into a PC mount due to her chill temperament.

Regrettably I am unable to give the time to Myrtle that she deserves. She is a sweet mare who seems to pick up things well. Bottom of the pecking order and has zero dirt in her. Has begun some ground work education but not yet ridden education; this could be an advantage for someone wanting a horse they can educate how they like.

I will be VERY fussy on where this girl goes. You must be experienced with OTT thoroughbreds and be willing to give her the time and patience she deserves as she is as green as they come.

Tiarna Newbold Equestrians Mentorship Program member, Michaela, having some fun with Apollo in our last workshop.

We were looking at different types of rehab regimes horses can go through when recovering from injuries, the process’ and some exercises you can do to aid in the recovery process.

We were able to practicality apply this information with Apollo who is in rehab himself for KS.

Here you can see Michaela taking Apollo over some risen poles and practicing some long reining, a skill I have personally had to brush up on during the rehab process with Apollo.

Have you gotten to a point where you feel you aren’t progressing as an equestrian?

Picture this in your mind now…

You get home from school one evening, race to your front door, throwing it open. You drop your heavy school bag onto the floor and go straight to your room. You get changed, chucking your school uniform onto your unmade bed, getting into your jodhpurs and riding top.

Once you’re dressed you make your way to your horse. You open the creaky gate to their paddock, walk over and give them a big hug.

As you go to put a halter on ready for a ride you look down at their leg and see it’s three times the size it normally is…

Your heart sinks...
First you are upset knowing you can’t ride today, then you feel the fear rise up as you have no idea what to do…

I understand this feeling all too well.

Have you ever stood in a crowded room and felt like you were invisible? Have you ever stood in a crowded room and wished you were invisible?

I have.

I have been in rooms where simultaneously I was the smallest person in the room, yet was sticking out like a sore thumb. I wasn’t just feeling sadness or fear, I became them; my skin may as well have had those words tattooed on them.

I have been in rooms with endless noise and conversation, stepped outside, covered my ears, and somehow the noise just got louder.

I have stood in many rooms over my life. Most of them were uncomfortable one way or another.

Let me tell you a secret.
As a teenager I didn’t choose the rooms I stood in, I didn’t choose my discomfort. Those rooms made me feel like nothing.

As an adult, I managed to find my way to rooms that made me feel uncomfortable, but I chose to be in those rooms. They helped me see how I have everything I ever needed. They showed me that dream life I thought I could never have, is right there waiting for me to step into it. They showed me the connection, the confidence and the empowerment I didn’t realise I had the whole time.

I promise, everything you think you’re not, everything you think you can’t have or be, you DO have and you ARE!

My secret?
Get comfortable with being uncomfortable! That’s when growth happens!

What is TNE’s purpose?

Vision -
To spread the realisation and understanding of the innate power and brilliance within every soul. Therefore, fostering a certainty in an individuals ability to build their dream life; eliminating limiting beliefs. To deepen an individuals understanding of themself and others; providing connected relationships. To educate that there is true balance in every element of life. Therefore, supporting individuals to live in alignment with their values.

Mission -
To create a space that is bridging the gap for youth; a place that educates and empowers teens as they transition into adulthood. To utilise horses as a tool to explore the endless potential within every human being as well as developing invaluable life skills that are transferable to every facet of life. Where the restrictions of mental health, self worth and limiting beliefs are no longer the stories running people’s lives. TNE helps guide people on how to grab the reins of their own life.

I want you to see this in your mind…

It’s a cool winter night, I step outside my creaky wooden front door onto reddish brown rectangle pavers. I slip on my cracking black paddock boots and walk out into the grass. I can feel my nose going tingly from the cold. I hear the soft crunch of frosty green grass under my boot. I open a silver mettle gate to get into my horses paddock. Freezing, I grab his heavy dark purple fleece and wrap myself entirely in it, finally sitting down against a makeshift wooden frame built for a round bale to go in.

As my flee bitten grey, Kenny, walks over to me, puffing a warm breath onto my face, I just start sobbing. This feeling of defeat and helplessness washing over me.

At fourteen years old I questioned if I’d ever be good enough... I questioned if there would be a day my mind and heart weren’t racing as I stepped into a room of unfamiliar faces. I questioned if I’d ever feel truely connected and a sense of belonging; I questioned if I was strong enough, smart enough, confident enough, pretty enough, talented enough, worthy enough.

Little did I know that all these questions in my head were in countless other heads.

Fast forward some six years later and I have started my own business in the equine industry; coaching, riding, agisting and mentoring.

I have the skills to maintain and foster meaningful and healthy relationships/ friendships.

I have a clear mission and feel inspired to build my legacy.

I have a healthy relationship with myself and am deepening my understanding and appreciation of myself, my mind and body.

Some of the differences between then and now;

-I realised I am not ‘my story’
-I realised I am not my emotions nor am I controlled by them
-I broke my addictions to things such as self sabotage and poverty mentality
-I understood my worth (stopped getting in my own way)
-I realised and embraced my weaknesses and strengths

Beyond proud of TNE Penny dreamer and Sophia today after attending a rally at Horsemens Pony Club! Both girls handled themselves like pros for their first off property outing, I’m so excited to see how they both go in the 2025 season. Well… what a day. Yesterday afternoon I noticed some swelling on Dusty’s face. After speaking to a vet at Murdoch we decided to see how it was over night on some anti-inflammatory with the assumption it was a sting of sorts. In the morning it had almost doubled in size, so off to the vet we went. After a fair amount of investigating an abscess was discovered, caused by what seemed to be a small bit of wire. After some draining and poking and prodding a very small piece of wire/ metal was finally removed. Baby dusty is staying over night to be safe and has started antibiotics, but should be totally fine! I want to say a hugeeee thank you to the entire equine veterinary team at Murdoch university. You are all truely amazing and I’d never dream of taking my fur babies to anyone else. You guys have become my second home/ family over the years (although I don’t think that’s a good thing 🤦🏼‍♀️). I always feel surrounded by such support when making hard choices for my horses. You really are the most incredible group of people! Thanks to everyone who messaged asking if dusty was ok! As well as my family who always have my back when sh*t goes south. Unfortunately this means no Busselton showjumping… I’m pretty gutted but am grateful that my boy is ok! (I cannot thank everyone enough who offered things like float yards/ places for him to stay etc!!) Seems the universe decided it’s not time to get back in the ring just yet… hopefully after a few weeks of recovery we will be back to training and aim to make baby Dusty’s debut!!

Today TNE said goodbye to Jenkins as he left for his new (more relaxed) home! I’m so glad he gets to live out his days as a semi retired paddock ornament for the Aldersons!! God knows he deserves it!! I cannot thank Paris enough for trusting me with her boy over the last year. He is worth his weight in gold and I feel so privileged to have had such an incredible horse for my students to learn and grown with! I have so much respect for him and am so grateful for what he’s done for me. I genuinely owe so much to him for how he helped my grow my business and what he taught my clients. He is one in a million. It will be weird waking up and not seeing him in my paddock! But I’m so glad he gets to live out his days at the best home along side diva! Thanks for everything jenks!!

Dusty’s first jump school! Safe to say I was given a humble reminder that he is just a baby and that I need to get my riding fitness back! Despite some very green moments he gave me some lovely jumps and moments in this ride.
