'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house;
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that Santa Paws soon would be there;
The puppies were nestled all snug in their beds;
While visions of soft toys danced in their heads;
Then out on the lawn like a loud action movie;
A visit was made to these sleeping patooties.

I heard a lone jolly voice, as he drove out of sight—
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

(After A Visit from St. Nicholas by Clement Clarke Moore)

Happy first trip around the sun to these gorgeous boys!
Can't believe it's been 12 months!

They are both full of joy and wonder and spread happy dust wherever they go 🙂 What a blessing they are!

Thanks to Nina at Gofetch Bakery for their pupcakes and name bones.

We had our last scent work trial of the year last night and Sid was entered into Advanced containers and Advanced Interiors.

He was ah-mazing! Qualified in both elements and even managed a 4th place in Interiors!

58% pass rate for Containers and he found both hides in 53.44 seconds!

35% pass rate for interiors which was a music theme and visually a lot of items, including musical notes and CDs stuck to the walls. Two walls were included in the search area. Anyway, he was a little superstar and found both hides in 1.15.05 and would have been quicker if he didn’t have to tell the silly human twice that the second odour was under a CD stuck to the wall!

He now needs just one more pass in Containers and he’ll have his Advanced title! He’s now in Excellent level for 3 elements.

Kenzie was entered into the final Novice trial of the year next weekend but she inconveniently came into season so she’s scratched which is a shame because she also needs just 1 containers pass for her novice title.

Oh well… goals for next year 🙂.

Seamus also received his Advanced Title in the mail last week :)

A little project I’ve been working on through the year for Griffon Rescue and Re-Homing WA.

Who would like to pre-order a copy to support Griffon Rescue?

Coming Soon!
Kelly has nearly finished photographing all our calendar boys and girls so we will soon go to print.

Please comment below if you think you will be needing one of these works of Griffon perfection for your walls (comment number if you need more than 1) so we can ensure we print the right amount.

Cost will be $25 +p/h or collect from a playdate towards the end of the year.

Profits of calendar sales support Griffon Rescue and Re-Homing WA

Great day today at the ATC Scent Work Trials. With the help of Sheree, who handled Seamus, I entered the 3 dogs. We qualified in 5 of the 6 trials!

Kenzie passed Novice Exteriors and Novice Vehicles. She now only needs a Novice Containers and she has her title!

Sid passed Advanced Exteriors and searched wonderfully. He was last to run in a very big field for Advanced Vehicles and although he didn’t pass, there was a lot to like.

Seamus (handled by Sheree) passed in both Advanced Exteriors and managed a first place in Advanced Vehicles! He’s now in Excellent Vehicles going forward but he also needs a container trial to get his Advanced title.

So very happy with all three of them, and had an amazing day spent with lovely friends in the scent work community ❤️

Our weird little dude Monty at a recent lure coursing try out day. Jodie Grieve has captured his excitement, joy, and single minded focus of the plastic baggies! If these images had sound, you would also hear him squeak/barking the whole way around the course!

He's 10 in October... not that you'd know it from these amazing pics ;)

Monty is allegedly a Jack Russell x Pomeranian.

We were lucky enough to have a day visit from Arnie today - everyone remembered him, as he did them, and from the minute he walked through the door, this was pretty much how it went down. Both boys will sleep super well tonight!

What a day!! A scent work vehicle trial hosted by the Midland Dog Training Club at a gorgeous farm location. To my great joy, all 3 dogs passed! Kenzie passed in Novice, working beautifully and was awarded the Judge’s/Steward’s Award, Sid also passed Advanced in what was a confident, quick search, and then Seamus (handled by Jane Wood) got second place in Advanced!

So proud of them all ❤️

Big gratitude to the scent work community and the trainers who have helped us learn and grow 🙂

Today we spent a lovely day in the hills competing in Scent Work trials. Kenzie was entered in Novice Exteriors for the first time and she was amazing! She actually found the hide in a matter of seconds but I asked her to show me 4 times before calling it because I couldn’t quite believe she found it that quickly! Anyway, only 5 dogs qualified out of 34 entries and she was one of them ❤️

Next up was Seamus in Advanced Exteriors, handled by Sheree because I was handling Sid in the same level. He also rocked his socks off and passed - thanks Sheree!

And the very last dog to the day to run in Advanced Exteriors was Sid. He was also absolutely amazing - new location for him and in the past this has challenged Sid but today he was totally comfortable and searched really well. He found the first hide quickly and easily but we just missed out on the second hide due to a 30 second warning and me having a little panic and calling it too soon. He was on odour and if I had have let home go a bit longer I think he would have got it.

So all in all, a good day at the office, super happy with all 3 dogs.

Next up… Moe and Arnie in a show this Sunday :)

Today Moe and Arnie were lucky enough to be 2 of 4 demo puppies for Laura (IMDT) in her session at the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia Conference.

Both were amazing 🤩 Things they saw and experienced and now have positive associations with:

Underground car parks
Riding in lifts
Automatic sliding doors
Walking on different surfaces
Being inside a large building with groups of people walking around
Controlled attention from strangers (vet nurses, so appropriate with interactions)
Loudspeakers
Settling on their mat
Working briefly with other people
Toileting outside when asked
People dressed as clowns! (also vet nurses)
🤣

Very grateful for this wonderful opportunity for the babies!

Last night we entered a scent work trial. It’s the first time I’ve had 3 dogs entered at the same time.

Kenzie was entered in her first ever trial - Novice Interiors and I was super happy with how she did 🙂 She was a bit preoccupied with the new, unfamiliar environment, but she knew what the game was and got herself back on track to search well and find the hide, which was Clove. She gave me a lovely nose hold indication and we had a big celebration 🎉 Kenzie also passed Intermediate Sniffer Dog school with The Doggy Lady and received a lovely certificate.

Seamus was the first dog to run in Advanced Vehicles and he too was very interested in watching what the photographer was doing (you’d think he’d be used to people with cameras!)… he’s not fast, but he is thorough, so I got him back on task and he located both hides (Clove and Birch) on 2 of the 3 vehicles. Another big celebration 🎉

Finally it was Sid’s turn and he was entered into Advanced Interiors. At the briefing we were told we had 90 seconds for the search. Now, Sid needs time to adjust to a new environment so I did think this probably wouldn’t be the search for him. To be fair, the search was relatively simple, lots of items in an L shape and if you had a dog who worked quickly it was totally doable. Sid did actually find the first hide and told me TWICE but for some unknown reason I didn’t call it 😞 We then heard the 30 second warning and we timed out. He did search well though and would like everyone to know that he has a numpty as a handler 🤣. And again, we celebrated 🎉

Overall, a great night with lovely people doing something we really enjoy.

We had a brother meet up today with Arnie and Moe! They're now 4.5 months and both doing splendidly. They are chalk and cheese personality wise, with Arnie being just like Kenzie (energetic, full of drive) and Moe more like Erik (chilled and more observational).

Just love them both so much!

Story Dogs, Therapy Dogs, LEGENDS

We are pure bred rough coated Griffon Bruxellois, or Brussels Griffons. Erik the Brave, Conqueror of Hearts (the elder, born 14 March 2015) has perfected poker face. Sidney Swain, Master of Mischief is his younger brother (born 2 October 2018) and is in training to become a Therapy Dog like his big bro. They both love many patting hands. They do a lot of voluntary work, and Erik is a member of the Story Dogs WA team, sponsored by the good folk at WA Veterinary Emergency & Specialty in Beeliar to trot around schools listening to children read and being force fed treats ;)

In 2019, they are available for private visits to workplaces to spread their joy around.

Mostly, they make people smile.
