Contact us to place your order as weekly stock is usually already allocated. WCM is a home grown farm and will not always be attended. Please contact us via Messenger or sms for stock availability.

It’s been awhile since I posted and I hoped that it would be with good news that I would be posting this time. But I’m sorry to say it is not. We have been plagued with massive beetle die off for the last 9 months. Even with adding new breeding lines we haven’t been able to boost our production back to where we wanted it to be. So going forward we will be halting all Mealworm sales and purely crossing our fingers that one day we will get back to having stock levels worth selling.

In the MEANTIME!! We have a beautiful new product thanks to all of those lovely mealworms you’ve enjoyed in the past. The only byproduct of mealworms is their p**p, called Frass in the insect world. Frass is an incredible fully organic fertiliser. We’ve been selectively field testing it to a few customers and family and by way of family a bunch of avid gardeners down in Denmark and we’ve had fantastic feedback about its effectiveness.

So if you’ve got a garden of any sort (even hydroponic!) and would like to continue to support us our 7kg Frass bags will be going on sale during the easter holidays.

IMPORTANT NOTICE……..
Good Morning everyone, as most of you know it’s been a tough winter and I’m still recovering from losing much of my breeding stock. The addition of The Grub Mealworms to the business has been phenomenal, and with that I will be forging forward.
However, with the coming of the school holidays and the necessary kid minding duties and holiday trips that involves, I have decided to shut the shop until school goes back.
This will allow me to focus all my attention on developing the breeding stock base I need to get the farm growing and up to the yield levels I need to service all my loyal customers.
I know this isn’t ideal but in the coming months we will be stronger and better placed to help you all.

It’s been an interesting few weeks here at West Coast Mealworms. We have acquired another mealworm business, The Grub Mealworms, a few weeks ago.
So that influx of new breeding stock has put us in a good position going forward. We still have a bit of a catchup to get back to where we were at the beginning of the year. But it’s all a learning process.
Also keep an eye on the page for a new product coming soon!

And greetings from Lilly… or Billy, there are two now and I can’t tell them apart!

We are still here!! It’s been a tough winter, even with heating cables and monitoring we just couldn’t keep the blighters happily growing.
Thank you to everyone who has been making the trip to us as deliveries took a hiatus. We have had two weeks of improved yields, which is encouraging. However we will be coming to an abrupt halt in a few weeks as we suffer the effects of a disease that is going through our beetles. We are trying to find out what is causing this and taking steps to mitigate where possible. We will keep everyone posted.
In the meantime please do keep dropping us a line for your mealworm needs and we will do our best to help you out.

Another busy week! A great harvest of 11kg of happy healthy mealworms on Monday, and all 11kg have gone already! Thank you to all my delivery customers up North, it was great meeting some new faces today.
We will be taking next week off for a well deserved holiday down south. We will be back harvesting again on Monday the 24th. Until then take care!

Reduce Reuse Recycle ♻️

A big part of the story behind West Coast Mealworms is Sustainability. We have future aspirations to be a big part in the CSIRO Future Protein Mission.

This mission looks at finding new and innovative ways to produce protein sources with growing populations in mind.

In the present we want to promote our sustainability in other ways. Our biggest concern regarding our process is in our packaging. Unfortunately due to the insatiable appetite of live mealworms, paper and recycled materials do not make for adequate storage.
This means we are limited to plastic containers and hessian bags.

To help us become more sustainable we are asking our repeat customers to think about saving their containers and swapping them with us so we can clean and reuse them!

DELIVERY SERVICE UPDATE

After a fantastic response to our delivery service we have decided to make a small change to help us service more customers in a timely fashion.
Our northern Delivery service area will now extend out to Roe Highway and south to South street. The Southern delivery area will be bounded by Mundijong Road and the Kwinana freeway. This boundary change allows us to have an Eastern Service area for all our customers out towards the hills. I have spoken to many of you about this coming change already.

So when will this happen?

This weeks Northern Delivery service (Delivery Date 15th of February) will stay the same.

As of next week (delivery date 22nd of February) the new Southern Delivery Area will take effect. This won’t affect any of the current southern deliveries.

The new three week rotation will be South, then North, then East. See below for the up coming delivery schedule.

22/2 - New Southern Delivery Area
1/3 - New Northern Delivery Area
8/3. - New Eastern Delivery Area
15/3 - New Southern Delivery Area

Another load of timber and insulation panels can only mean one thing! It’s expansion time again. This next expansion will give the farm capacity for another 240 trays. A full 50% increase in available storage! It’s just a shame there is so little room in the garage to build the darn thing!

It’s been a busy few weeks at the Farm. Now all three racks are finished and set up for summer it’s go, go, go. It’s been fantastic having so much interest and sales are going well. Thank you to all of you who have reached out for your worms!!! We will soon (about 6-8weeks) be doubling our output and in 12-15 weeks we will double again! A little bit of patience will soon be paying dividends for us and our customers. Today was sifting day for one half of the beetles, who get moved into fresh new bedding every two weeks. Today we sifted out just over 2kg of beetles!
