AJ has her first outing at AR Brookleigh today, she was an absolute superstar in jumping and dressage 😍 holy moly I’m so impressed with how brave she is 😎

AJ is the quickest learning pony! Day three under saddle and she can walk, trot and canter on the bit 😍 She’s still a little speedy and sensitive in her mouth (yay brakes!) but that will come with time and persistence in keeping her steady calm and balanced 🦄

Ground and whip training with AJ
She’s very smart and responsive and learns quickly, she had absolutely no personal space boundaries at all and trying to run through me is her go to move to get out of doing something 🙄
Luckily I train weights and circus so I’m strong enough to anchor and manipulate her with my own weight and strength.

This whip training will teach her to move back, forward and sideways (on the fore). When you’re training this - you’re asking for one step at a time - not two, three or 50.
It’s the absolute basic necessity for all training - and will come in handy for float training, parking (standing still, while grooming or plaiting etc) and breaking.

Backwards cue - front of cannon
Forwards cue - front shoulder
Turn on forehand cue - hind flank

Ideally you want quick and responsive movements (no lagging and refusal to move). To clearly communicate you must ‘give’ when the horse has done the correct movement. Or in this case - cease whipping instantaneously with the desired movement.

Forwards cue will be sticky (as you can see in the video) you will need to be quick with your hands to stop the horse from taking more than one step. Consistency and patience is key 💘

She’s a beautiful 14yo arab x 13.3hh barbie horse 🤤
AJ will be ready for riding lessons mid December, and will be suited for beginners to a show level for children under 16 (or smaller adults 🦄💕)
Right now she’s a little pushy and has lots of work to be done - keep an eye out for her progress and don’t forget to book in your pony date!

Training is about consistency, clear communication and calmness. Having a clear and precise cue for each command and not letting the horse move off your body language (unless it’s the cue) is super important. Especially teaching your horse to park!

Meet Ivy.
She should be renamed not for the faint hearted, Poison Ivy, or caution explosive 🧨
She has the typical ottb mare attitude of ‘I don’t care much for what you’re asking me to do so let’s go really fast, spin backwards into walls and try as hard as I can to make mum hate me, standing still is not an option sorry’

Not. Today. Satan.
After 6 months spelling and a quick AR death ride, mumma decided it was time to come back into work.

Day one was spent focusing on re-establishing an effective stop button, keeping calm and relearning to park.

It was an extremely successful session, put an incredible stop button in Ivy and not even one dummy spit! I look forward to seeing all her progress 💕

Ivys very first time out, and after 6 months spelling! She handled everything brilliantly on the ground, but didn’t much care for standing still and waiting. After a few dummy spits we kept her busy, with lots of turns and ended on a super positive note!
Her mumma is excited to bring her to AR this month 😍🦄
