Pet FoodBank - Western Australia

Pet FoodBank - Western Australia Pet FoodBank - Western Australia offers emergency food relief to pets that would otherwise go witho Some things to know:

We do not offer a delivery service.
(28)

A collection and distribution service assisting shelters, rescue groups and families to feed the animals in their care. The Pet Foodbank does not condone nor support the private breeding of pets or animals. If you are struggling to feed your pet, contact us - we can help. Of course, the food provided is offered with love, but you will have to arrange collection. You must be the owner in order to r

egister for a food donation. Don't apply for someone else

We do this for the love of animals, but manners are nice to hear. Applicants - we will check your profile. People posing with new tattoos or beer for breakfast will be outed! Your pets need to be the priority (as they are to us)

To keep it fair to all, we don't keep lists of names to donate to. If you need help - get in touch. If you DO get a donation, a photo, or review or tag of our page is nice. It helps more people out there find us and encourages them to come forward for food or to donate,

Thanks for visiting our page and helping keep pets fed. The Crew @ PFBWA

**Warning**
Be very careful where you are leaving your rapid antigen tests and be mindful when self testing.
RSPCA has released the following update.

Pet owners beware, a chemical that can be found in trace amounts in some COVID-19 rapid antigen test (RAT) kits may be toxic to animals if ingested. 🧪⚠️

The WA says RAT buffer solutions may contain a chemical called sodium azide which could be a risk to small animals such as puppies, small dogs, cats, kittens, small mammals, and birds.

"As Rapid Antigen Test kits become part of our lives, please ensure you take the care to keep them out of reach of animals and dispose of them properly to minimise the risk to your pets," the RSPCA said.

"Please call your veterinarian or contact the Animal Poisons Helpline on 1300 869 738 urgently if an animal has ingested even a small amount of the buffer solution."

GRASS SEED WARNING!!!
Recently we have been seeing some grass seed victims. Yesterday poor Fomo came in with a grass seed stuck in her eye which needed to be removed under sedation. Fomo was very lucky the seed didn't cause any substantial damage to her eye.
We thought it is important to make everyone aware of the problems the humble little grass seeds can pose to our beloved pets.
Grass seeds are a particular problem in late spring and throughout the summer months. Grass seeds have an arrow like head and once they get stuck into the skin they continue to move in a one way direction and then burrows underneath the skin and form a swelling and an abscess.
Whilst lodged grass seeds may be found anywhere on your dog, they are mostly a problem on the feet and in-between the toes. They are also commonly found on the front of the chest and around the armpits. For dogs that like to eat grass we occasionally see big swellings under the jaw. This occurs when a seed head has been ingested and gets stuck in the mouth. It then works its way to the subcutaneous tissues under the jaw causing an abscess. Retrieving the little seeds once they are burrowed under the skin isn’t always easy. Occasionally it can be like looking for a needle in a haystack and multiple operations are required to remove bits of broken down grass head.
Occasionally a grass seed head finds its way into your pet’s ears. Once the grass seed goes into ear canal, the pet starts to constantly shake head and scratch ears. This can cause rupture of ear drum. Your pet may sedation to retrieve the grass seed from the ears.
Also grass seed’s can enter the nose while the dog is sniffing around. Once it lodges into nasal cavity, the pet will start sneezing constantly and may pass blood with sneezing. Your pet will need full general anaesthetic to retrieve the grass seed from nostrils.
Grass seeds can also cause life-threatening problems when they are inhaled or migrate from the skin in to the chest and enter the lungs. They can also pe*****te into abdominal organs. Seed may also migrate into the areas near the spine. When internal organs or the spine are affected, a pet may become very ill.
As always, prevention is better than cure. Keep the grass mowed short at your house and take care allowing your pet to run in long grasses. If you have a pet prone to collecting things in their coat, they should be checked daily all over for seeds. Pay particular attention to in-between each toe and around the chest and ears. Consider having your dog’s coat clipped short over summer to aid your search.

𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐎𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 – 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝 🪶 🦜

Our feather banks are running low in a couple of our clinics, and we're in search of feathers from all types of birds.

At present, our Balcatta clinic urgently needs some flight feathers from any parrot species, while our Peninsula clinic is after feathers from smaller birds.

If you have fallen feathers in your aviary or home, please send them to us so that we can size them up and match them to feathered friends who require imping procedures. All our clinics will happily accept donated feathers at any time, so please keep us in mind.

If you’re in Australia (unfortunately we can’t take feathers from overseas!) you can pop the feathers in an envelope and post them directly to our clinics or drop them off if you're able to do so. 💌 🪶

Cat and fox trapping will take place at Royal Fremantle Golf Club over the next four weeks to help protect our native wildlife.

We're asking people to please be mindful of the traps in the highlighted areas and ensure dogs are kept on lead. The golf course is one of 12 cat prohibited areas across Fremantle, with owners subject to a $200 fine if their cat is caught in the area.

This is what the general public dont see ..
Yes behind the scenes of rescue work .... these carers not only are in for the long haul, sleepless nights, shedding many tears and being emotionally spent ... their families also miss out on quality time too .
All of this is UNPAID volunteer work.
Please please get your cats steralised .
Not only is it LAW but also the stress it puts on the young mum cats & foster carers is tremdous 😭

The Rescue World has lost one of its favourite people on friday 😭
Christy was a gracious lady ALWAYS helping not only the furkids but also the humans .
Thank You Christy for not only the mentoring, the laughs , the go to person .
Huge Condolences to Christy's family , Friends & also to everyone in the rescue world that knew this Beautiful Lady xx

TRIBUTE TO A WONDERFUL WOMAN

On Friday our charity lost the most amazing person, our President Christine ( Christy) Yurovich.
Christine was the one of the founding members of our charity and was intregal in establishing the Op Shops and our Snip and Chip Programme.
Christines passion for animal welfare was second to none, her ability to see hope in sometimes hopeless situations was enviable.
Christine worked tirelessly to help the cats in the wider community not only for us but for numerous other rescues and individuals.
Her knowledge, experience and zest for the welfare of animals in particular cats and kittens will be the legacy she leaves behind.
Christine was a passionate, compassionate and dedicated woman, one who we will miss dreadfully.
Christine was the hero, the warrior, the voice for all cats and kittens.
We hope in our own way we can continue her good work and make her proud.
We extend our deepest love and sympathies to her family and friends, but take comfort in knowing that a whole lot of grateful furry angels are waiting for her with open arms to keep her safe forever.
Sleep peacefully ###x

Please, West Australian supporters, join us tomorrow to remember Strawberry.

Strawberry is gone now - she rotted from the inside out. She was kicked and left to suffer by her puppy farmer as she struggled in labour.

But her life is her message, and we can't let it be forgotten.

Especially by WA MPs who plan to vote against the upcoming Stop Puppy Farming Bill.

This might be the only chance for a long time to get the sale of puppies in pet shops banned in Western Australia. We need you to join us to show your support for Strawberry and these laws.

Our Story

A collection and distribution service assisting families to feed the animals in their care. If you are struggling to feed your pet, contact us and if we can, we will help. Some things to know: Please remember we are run by unpaid volunteers and solely reliant on donations from the general community, we do not have have corporate sponsorship or government funding. We are not affiliated with FoodBank!

We offer emergency relief to financially struggling pet owners needing help to feed their beloved pets when we have it available.

We also offer subsidized food. Please message us to know more! You will need to provide proof of hardship. You must be the owner in order to register for a food donation, please do not ask on the behalf of someone else! We do not help breeders, as those requests are deemed business and can fund themselves. We endorse responsible pet ownership through rescue, adoption, sterilization, training, microchip and registration requirements. Delivery service is not available! Please ensure you are able to collect at the agreed time. If you do get a donation, a photo, review or tag of our page is nice. It helps more people out there find us and donate so we can help other pets in need! The Pet FoodBank does not condone nor support unregistered breeding of pets or animals.

If you need help - get in touch. Thanks for visiting our page and helping to keep fur-kids fed.
