Four Numbats are one step closer to their wild release! 🌿

Last week, these adorable little marsupials were fitted with radio tracking collars in preparation for their next big adventure.

The Numbats were born in January through our collaborative-breed-for-release program and have been maturing behind-the-scenes under the watchful eyes of our dedicated science staff.

Now that they are nearly one-year-old, it’s almost time for them to go wild!

We’d like to say a big thank you to our conservation partner Project Numbat for providing these collars – this crucial equipment means researchers can keep track of the Numbats' movements and breeding activity.

Data like this is super valuable and helps make our collaborative breed-for-release program as impactful as possible.

In the coming weeks, we’ll work with our friends at DBCA’s Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia to get these endangered native animals out into safe habitat.

Species-saving work like this can only be successful with great teams, and we’re lucky to work with some of the very best 🙌

Stay tuned for more updates to come!

In case you weren't aware, echidnas hindfeet face backwards!😲

Echidnas are excellent diggers and do a lot of foraging for their food. They use their front feet to dig, and the backwards facing feet to push the soil away!

Permai is settling into life at Monarto Safari Park and today she enjoyed one of her favourite routines… a big bath with the high pressure hose.

After more than seven months in her new home, Permai is growing in confidence. Her keepers give her a full scrub and hose down, which not only helps them check her from head to toe but also gives her the chance to relax, play and show a bit of her personality. Permai loves the warm water from the hose, loves drinking from it and enjoys a good splash before heading off for a roll in the mulch.

A huge part of this smooth transition has been thanks to Jody, the keeper from Perth Zoo who travelled across the country with Permai and has spent months helping her settle in. Jody has now officially handed Permai over to the Monarto Safari Park team and is heading home.

A massive thank you to Jody for everything she has done and for everything she has taught the team at Monarto Safari Park. Her care, knowledge and dedication have made an enormous difference to Permai’s journey.

And a big thank you to Kubpower for supplying the high pressure washer that makes Permai’s favourite bath time possible.

Bopha reaching for honey like we reach for the last Pringle 🤭🍯

But for Bopha this isn’t just a snack, it’s enrichment! Digging into the log ecnourages natural behaviours to keep her claws sharp and tongue busy!

Jelani, Uzuri and Makeba are ready for a cat nap! 💤

In a pride, even yawns are a team effort - one lion yawns and the rest follow.

Studies have shown contagious yawning doesn’t just signal snooze time, it keeps the pride in sync if they need to pounce into action!

This baby Hairy Marron is pea-sized perfection 🫛

Behind-the-scenes in our collaborative breeding program, our teams are watching over 94 craylings for the season.

These critically endangered crustaceans start life as tiny as a pea, but they can grow up to 38cm long when fully matured!

Turns out a wheelbarrow full of giraffe and zebra poo is actually the BEST when you're a dingo pup.

Come along with Keeper Marty as she takes us through a training session to wrap up Puteri Caring Week 🧡

As an older lady, Puteri's dedicated carers work very hard to ensure this beautiful ape stays happy and healthy.

Not only do these sessions let us provide stress-free proactive healthcare, but they also help build strong trusting relationships.

Puti always has the choice to take part, and her carers say she loves the extra one-on-one time. And each session always finishes with a bunch of her favourite tasty treats for a job well done!

Go Puteri! 🙌
