A few weeks ago as part of a recall class, we worked on an emergency recall/turn around.
It's not totally in the training department but is rooted in management.
Understanding when to train and when to manage is the hallmark of a proactive custodian.

Great group class today. Learning to be calm in a group setting. In this class we have young dogs as well as two mature dogs who would be labelled reactive. Everyone did extremely well. Big shout out to the following stars ✨

Dusty and Piper 'formally KK' had a reunion on the outside, how very exciting for the caregivers as both dogs shared time together on the inside with EPIC Dog Training Program.

Relaxing class working on co-operative care. Its not great for television but its extremely important for teaching your dog basic husbandry.

Great class Sunday. Very pleasing to see handlers reinforce good manners. I was able to instruct the class semi remotely while owners were taking responsibility on how they managed and train. This ordered chaos is a truer depiction of real life scenarios. It may be difficult to grasp at first, but this is why i prefer training with rolling enrollment. If you think all these dogs are owners are doing well, consider that every class will have different dogs of various skillset ranging from puppy-adolescent-adult-reactive. Well done class!!!

PUPS IN PRISON

We are looking at giving young healthy rescue puppies training, preferably puppies under six months, EPIC would collect the puppies and enter them into our Prison Dog Training Program.

They will be trained by our prisoners/handlers for a duration of three weeks to three months. Training with current best practice, reward based training. All prisoners have taken an Institute of Modern Dog Trainers 'Dog First Aid', they have been in the Training and Behaviour Program for a minimum of one year.

Part of our training program includes the following:-
Toilet training, Mouthing, Nipping Puppies, Jumping up, Loose Lead Walking, Come on Recall, Crate Training and Husbandry. The puppies will also have the opportunity to attend a puppy class depending on their age. The puppies will be supervised on a full time basis.

After the puppies have gone through training they will then be ready for adoption. The puppies can be adopted directly from the program, thus not having to go into kennel facilities.

Our Professional Program Dog Trainers will offer support to potential adopters, a post adoption session, including emailed handouts.

Puppies entering the program must be vet checked, vaccinated and wormed.

This is a good example of why not to trust most of the dog training you see on TV. You can create any narrative if you have the right editing.

Just some nice perpetual movement in class today. Minimal instructions from me for 2 minutes as behaviours were becoming reliable. Good work class.
