Snuffle mats are great for dogs. They not only give your dog something to do by sniffing around and finding their food, they can also help with boredom, anxiety in certain situations and they are great for mental stimulation!

What a great first day out with the mobile dog wash trailer. Loved meeting some new clients today and their beautifully behaved pooches. At this point in time I am fully booked out for my first dog washing days in Wongan Hills, Moora and Dalwallinu. I have opened up another day for Wongan Hills on the 9th of October which is already starting to fill up. If you haven't contacted me regarding an appointment for dog washing and would like one, please contact me and if I get enough interest I will open up another day sooner than my planned 4-6 weekly visits. Hi everyone. I am so overwhelmed with everyones support and interest you have all shown for my latest venture with the dog washing. I have sorted out pricing and started working on my dates for when I can travel to certain towns around our area. I am headed to Koorda on the 6th of October for dog training, so will have my trailer with me then and can do some dog washes that day for anyone interested. I will be in Wongan Hills on the 8th of October, Moora on the 15th of October and Dalwallinu on the 20th of October. I am going to be doing 4 weekly runs to each of these towns but, if I get booked up for one day I will open up another day for that town. The less travelling I have to do, the more time I will have for bathing dogs. If you have a few of you that can meet up all at one house, that saves me a lot of time of setting up and packing away my equipment.

I have been so busy lately with clients and looking to add something new to the business, I haven't had much of a chance to post any recent updates. I am super excited to let everyone know that I now have a mobile hydrobath that I will be able to offer on certain days/weeks to help you keep those pooches pampered, smelling nice and feeling great. Your dogs will love their own personal spa treatment with a massage brush, choice of shampoo, conditioner, blow dry or towel dry and many more options to choose from. Beautiful day for a bit of training for my partners beautiful Border Collie x Huntaway. Being on a farm, there's always vehicles moving about here there and everywhere. Whilst we always watch out for our pooches, they still need to learn about being around vehicles, motorbikes, tractors and trucks and to move out the way when they're going. I also have our 3 adult dogs showing him how to keep out of the way.

Omg these 2 boys are just awesome 😍😍 Bentley and Oscar came and hung out with me this morning, such a pleasure hanging out with these 2 especially when they tolerate the posing for the camera for me and Oscar even showed me how he carries around blankets 🤣 🐶🐾

Today I had the pleasure of working with this beautiful smiling boy. Dukes owner reached out to me as she realised she needed a bit of a hand with reminding Duke about his manners and teaching his owner a few new tips and getting back her confidence for helping to handle him out an about when he gets "overexcited". He was an absolute superstar today and loved to show me his smiles 😁 Look forward to working with Michelle and Duke over the next few weeks 🐾

Meet Roy (7yo Brown & White Border Collie) and Montana (3yo Blue Merle Border Collie x Australian Shepherd). These are 2 of our dogs (there is a few more who I will introduce later😉). Roys favourite things to do are round up and hang out with the chooks and pigs all day and play dead when you "shoot" him. Montana's favourite is to hang out protecting the house, showing you how high she can jump so you can catch her, swimming (doesn't matter the weather if there's a dam that's where she will be) and being everywhere I am (my little shadow). Feel free to introduce your pooches in the comments below. I'd love to see them! 🐶🐾

Update on Willows progress.
I met up with Willow and her mum at a local hall grounds so that we could test Willows training when she's out somewhere new with distractions and different smells. What a superstar she was today. She has been doing her homework with her family and it showed. She's getting much more responsive to commands and getting better at walking on a lead (6 months old and 30kgs so quite a strong girl). She got a bit pushed out of her comfort zone and was unsure of how to react when she met one of my dogs so we had to change our strategy, calm her back down and reintroduce the 2. Here she is showing off her listening skills on lead, working on recall on a long lead and getting off lead playtime for being such a good girl.

Dog aggression. It's one of those things that a lot of owners don't want to talk about or admit to their dog having aggression issues. You need to do the complete opposite. If you have a dog that is starting to show these signs and you arent sure what to do or how to approach the problem, then reach out to someone like your Veterinarian for a full health check up, a Dog Trainer or a Dog Behaviourist. There is generally a cause that is making them aggressive or display aggressive traits, it is just a matter of finding out what the cause or trigger is.

Are you getting impatient with your dogs training sessions? Stop and check to see why. Are the sessions going on for too long, are you trying to do some training at the wrong time of the day for your puppy, is there to many distractions, has your dog just done a heap of exercise? Just like us, sometimes they can't concentrate either so don't set them up to fail or for you to get frustrated and always finish on a positive note.

Meet Willow. She is an absolutely beautiful nearly 6 month old Bernese Mountain Dog. Her family has been doing a wonderful job with her training, but contacted me for some help with a few small issues. This "little" girl is a very excitable puppy who is already so strong but oh so sweet 😍 Looking forward to seeing her progress over the next 4 weeks.

Jumping, over excited puppies!!
All puppies love to jump up at us especially when greeting which can then in turn lead to very unwanted behaviour as an adult dog. When your puppy or dog jumps on a person, don’t reprimand them; just turn your back on them, ignore the behavior and wait until they settle down before giving positive reinforcement. Never encourage jumping behavior by patting or praising your dog when they’re in a “jumping up” position.

Have you got a new puppy? Trying to think of some simple things to do that will help your puppy later on in life with their care. Here are 3 easy tips that people tend to overlook. Play with their paws - hold them, check in-between the toes, look at the nails this helps with nail clipping later on and for checking for grass seeds, etc. Massaging the ears - rub them, lift them up, look in them. Checking in their mouth - lift up their lips have a look at the teeth, gently open their mouth. Your vet will love you and your pooch even more if your dog is used to these things being done to them.

Did you know that rewarding your dog or puppy is not always with treats? Don't forget about the most simple and enjoyable praise you can give your pooch. Verbal praise and pats.

Reward-based training is enjoyable for the dog and positively enhances the relationship between the dog and handler. Rewards may be in the form of a food treat, verbal praise such as “good dog” in a pleasant tone of voice, or gentle pat to be given when the dog performs the ‘good’ behaviour.

Did you know that puppies and dogs "live in the moment". Two minutes after they’ve done something, they’ve already forgotten about it. So when your pup is doing something bad, use your chosen training technique right away so they have a chance to make the association between the behavior and the correction. Consistent repetition will reinforce what they’ve learned.

Hi everyone my name is Katrina. I live in our beautiful Wheatbelt District of WA in a very small town called Piawaning. I have always had a passion for training dogs and a love to help their owners learn how to do this. I first started training dogs about 10 years ago and since then haven't done much due to family life, working (still with animals but a different path) and studying. I have come to realise that we don't have a service like this around our area and after having people coming to me asking for help, decided to start up Blue Opal Dog Training.
