Reminder from Club sponsor Harbourside Vet Care

Over the last few weeks we have had multiple lost dogs and cats brought into the clinic who ARE microchipped however the details are NOT up to date. 😓
Microchips are the only legal and permanent form of identification in animals. 🆔
Firstly and most importantly please make sure your pets microchip details are updated with Dogs And Cats Online (DACO). 🙏
Additionally, please update their microchip information on one of the national registries. You can find which registry they are on by checking their microchip on www.petaddress.com.au
If you're unsure of your pets microchip number, feel free to pop in and one of our team can scan them! 🙂

⚠️ POSITIVE HEARTWORM CASE IN SA ❤️🪱
There has been a positive confirmed case of heartworm north of Adelaide. The case has been born and bred in Adelaide and has never left the state.

Common symptoms are:

If you are unsure if your pets get the injection or would like to organise prevention, please call the clinic on 8248 2111 or pop in for a chat or for more information please visit:

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn;
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning;
We will remember them.

**Fireworks Warning**

Various fireworks displays are scheduled between 11am to 10pm as part of the Liv Golf Adelaide event at Grange Golf Club from Friday 26 April to Sunday 28 April (inclusive).

If you live nearby and your pets are sensitive to loud noises, please keep them safe and inside.

If you have a puppy that hasn't experienced fireworks before, this is an excellent opportunity to spend the time with them with lots of treats, toys, food dispensing toys and games to help prevent a fear of loud noises from developing!

Check out our dog blog for more information on helping your dog (or cat!) with a Fireworks Frenzy: https://brnw.ch/Fireworks_Frenzy

⚠️ EASTER HAZARDS FOR PETS ⚠️
Coming up to the Easter weekend, there are a few common things that are toxic/poisonous to our pets. 🐇

🍫 Chocolate
Chocolate contains Theobromine and Caffeine and are both toxic to pets.

🍞 Hot cross buns
Hot cross buns can contain Xylitol and dried fruits such as currants, sultanas and raisins which are all highly toxic and can cause renal (kidney) failure.

🍬 Lollies
Some lollies can contain Xylitol. Xylitol poisoning can cause a wide range of symptoms including vomiting, weakness, seizures and collapsing.

🪷 Easter Lily Flower
Most Lily's including the Easter Lily are poisonous to cats and can also lead to renal failure.

🧸 Easter Toys
Quite often Easter toys are small and fluffy and can seem really fun for pets to play with. However, pets chewing and swallowing small pieces may get stuck in the gut and could require abdominal surgery to remove it.

Please be mindful where these things are stored in your house to keep pets all pets safe and if you have any questions please contact us on 8248 2111. ☎️ Alternatively, for after hours or public holidays please call one of the emergency centres. 🐾

Shout out to our friends across the water celebrating .

We have a few in our Club family, and it's important to note there are so many reasons for yellow attire including dogs that are fragile due to age, dogs that are deaf and/or going blind, dogs recovering from surgery, dogs in training for a specifically role, and the more commonly known anxious of people or other dogs usually due to a traumatic event.

What we love about this post is that it highlights that the owner/guardian will be very focused on the dog and it's well-being, so it is really important that we take extra care to ensure that we are giving them plenty of space (so that they can keep focusing on their dog instead of moving away from yours).

Feel free to speak to any of our instructors if you want to know more 😍

Did you know that today is the day to celebrate all of those dogs who wear yellow. It is also important that we raise awareness of why dogs wear yellow, to help owners using this colour with their dogs, and help people understand why, and know what to do.

Dogs tend to wear yellow (harnesses, leads, collars, jackets etc) to show people that they needs space.

But why would they need space you might ask? Well, the dog could be fearful of humans, and/or dogs. The dog may be reactive, whether through trauma, pain, fear, or something else.

As you can see, there are many reasons why a dog wears yellow, and in all honesty, we really don't need to know the exact why. We just need to know what we should do when encountering such a dog.

The best thing you can do is to respect their need for space and keep your distance, so that dog isn’t pushed beyond what it can happily manage whilst enjoying a walk.

Remember too that it is very likely that the guardian of the dog is working to help the dog become more comfortable, more 'socially acceptable', but that it takes time to change behaviour and rebuild a dogs confidence. One event can undo all their hard work, so please, for their sake, don't be that event! Give them the space they need!

💛
