Meet Dasha, the newest rockstar to join our crew! She's got the pedigree of a superstar, hailing from a fabulous show and working bloodline. We've been searching high and low for the perfect addition, and Dasha's the one - get ready for her show-stopping debut! Huge thanks to Sam from Etherial home of quality Border Collies, Australian Shepherds for entrusting us with this stunning diva.

Did you know that if you have homozygous ee Red ("gold"/"Australian red") dogs, the merle gene isn't expressed, -- meaning ee Red dogs should never be mated to merles, just in case.

Because the Red colour can mask merle, breeders really need to know what they are doing when producing pups into the world. Breeders who are invested in the breed should already understand the breed standard and be well aware of colour, and how this will affect their lines genetically for the health of their pups.

Anyone who breeds border collies should be DNA testing their dogs. Not just to ensure breeding dogs are clear of hereditary diseases (some of which can be fatal!), but to also ensure they understand what colour their dogs are to ensure no double-merle is being bred.

Dogs homozygous for the merle gene, sometimes referred to as "double merles", are likely to have ocular and/or auditory defects.

For those who simply want to keep a pet but not breed, perhaps the name of the colour Red isn’t so much of an issue, but it’s a huge ‘red’ flag for breeders who don’t understand what they are producing. Unethical breeders may also try to trick potential buyers by using some of these other colour terms to claim coloured pups as ‘rare’ and profiteer. And any breeder charging different prices for colour, is not ethical and should be avoided.

Today was a big day for Charlie. He went to the vet for his second vaccination and showed great bravery by not making any noise. He also went to Bunnings for the first time and received a lot of attention from strangers while on his first trolley ride. I'm extremely proud of him!

Charlie, oh Charlie! Our first born pup is always on the go, exploring and learning. We've been working on obedience, and he's been doing great. Today, he helped us move the cows to a new paddock, and then he went for a swim with his mom. Charlie, you little rascal, you're making us all proud!
